Resources N50 Rules Updated, again

Lou,

I went to the N50 Web site today. I could not locate the new rule changes that apply to ‘excluded RF factory rifles.’ I did see something about Annie’s ( I have a 64 MPR 64 action and a match 1907 pro class 54 action that has a Tuner) in that excluded list. I navigated the site and could not find the excluded factory rifle list.

Can you clarify if I can or can’t use my two Anschutz .22 LRs for N50 matches? FWIW - I have been using both rifles for practice N50 card target shooting since I joined N50 in 2021.
I use the 64 MPR for Sportsman and the 1907 for Pro class.

Also, I really don’t understand why the factory rifles are excluded. What’s the issue with using these brands?

Thanks, Tom
Hi Tommy, Factory excluded list is at the bottom of the Rules page. Your Annies are good for Sportsman and Pro.
Any Annie is too good for Factory Class :).

Ok, thanks for clarifying Lou. I need to read up on factory class excluded rifles, so I understand why some brands are excluded.

In the case of FX and with the multitude of barrel liners available, it would be difficult to police all the different FX liners used in FX guns, so we would rely on the honor system.
One way to police and determine which FX liner and caliber of the original OEM setup would be to see a accompaning receipt of the rifle from the dealer of the sale. All dealers keep a electronic history of purchases by customer. Anything short of that would be speculation.

N50 would like to hear your thoughts on opening up the Sportsman slug air class to allow aftermarket barrels and barrel attachments. This class was originally designed to bring Factory slug rifles together against the rimfire rifle. As of now, zero participation coming from air.

We are interested in hearing what you have to say.

Thanks,
Joe
I would be interested for obvious reasons from within this thread. I have yet to compete with slugs. This will be my first year and was why I initially intended on shooting in the Sportsman Air Class.

Joe - sounds like this could be a good poll question in a separate post under N50 category.

As a long time N50 enthusiast, if we consider that N50 was created to encourage participation of both RF and air rifles in a competitive BR match setting, I think getting input to your question is a good idea. This is especially true since the participation right now is near zero with air guns, per your last sentence.

I’m probably showing my ignorance, but if a rules change was accepted, why would there be a need for a Pro class if sportsman rifles could now have tuners and high end after market barrels? I know the scoring would be harder because of the .22 scoring plug in Pro class, but the two classes both allow RF and AG currently.

Tommy....the change would only affect air guns in sportsman. Rimfire would stay the same.

The Rimfire rifles dominate sportsman ....they don't need any upgrades to be competitive.

I think nobody shoots air in sportsman because factory slug guns are not competitive. A few have tried it with poor results compared to Rimfire. If the wind isn't bad a good shooter can keep up with a pellet gun....but that's not normal. The wind drift advantage is 3-4x for Rimfire. Slugs are the only way to level that up and nobody has even come close with slugs in four seasons now.

Tom,

To simplify it ... Sportsman Class is for "factory configured" rimfire "Target" rifles which are in or out of production and factory configured air guns shooting slugs with "factory configured" barrels. All scored with .350" plug.

Pro Class is for "modified" RF and Air guns which are both scored with a .224" plug.

i don't shoot N50, but I've been involved in quite a few shooting sports, including BR. The disciplines that became "rules heavy" did not fare well. As a casual observer, I would encourage simplicity. If you try to make a place for everyone that owns any RF or air rifle, it might get bogged down by the weight of its complexity. Just an observation.

“factory configured” if I understand you correctly would mean I could shoot my Thomas Slug gun in Sportsman Class. I bought it the way I shoot it and that is the way Thomas sold it and I have not modified it. I like it the way it is right now.

Re. Factory Class - That clears it up. RFs that are older and out of production. My Annie’s are still safe😊 Tx…

OK, we'll give it a go. Allowing any air gun to shoot any slugs in Sportsman Class and you get the .350 plug - up to 30 cal.
