N/A Pawn Shop Find - $15

[Bear-of-Grayling]

Picked up this “Revelation” model, made by Crosman for Western Auto Supply Co. It’s a rebranded Crosman 760. First three numbers are 576, so I think it’s a 1976. I didn’t take an initial picture but it was very rough. Non functional. Rusty, nasty looking wood. A $15 special. It’s a smooth bore. I decided to embrace its rustic character. I had this old Williams scope lying around forever. Still waiting on a pump cup, so the picture is a mock with no internals. I’m still trying to decide which receiver finish I like the best. The first one is just polished. The middle one is distressed. The bottom one is fully colored. Opinions welcome.

I guess I like the fully colored bottom photo. The first looks too shiny and the middle unloved. Can you get a case-hardened look?

Nice fixer-upper, brings back very happy boyhood memories of shooting one while camping in the 70s. First airgun I ever shot

went to a pawn shot in town , he had a beat break barrel Gamo and wanted $100 , would not budge on price , so he still has it .
On the other hand you have a cool looking rebuild fun gun .

Don’t think I can get a case-hardened look. But maybe close. Looking to get a pewter grey. This die cast has limited options. Anyone have any experience with coloring die cast?

My father had a Revelation badged 30 30 Marlin 336 that now belongs to my youngest brother
We used to get Western Auto catalogs in the mail and there was a store in the rural town 9 miles from our farm.

Never used one. But that looks really cool.

It’s my favorite also. The distant picture makes it look to polished and perfect for the rest of the look. But this close up shows that it looks more aesthetically correct with it, I think. And over time, it will dull down. I’m searching ways to quicken the process.

Bear, I have a 760 parts gun. I used the barrel, pump/pivot support and probably a few other pieces on a project. I have the piston, valve and other parts left. If you need something let me know. I would have to check the serial numbers again to give it a mfg date.

All the pics are sweet, I like them all. A gold anodize I think would look good.

WIth that wood I think it will look good regardless of what finish you decide on. I'd go with glossy black were it mine.
