Steyr LG-100 blowing air - WHY ?

On the sixth shot a puff of air came back and the foam around the barrel had disintegrated into several small parts. Upon subsequent loading one shot would be fine and be right on target and the next one would blow back a puff of air with the shot decidedly off the point of aim.
What is causing this? Anyone had similar experience?

Tony I want so much to answer this question, but... I think the tension on the cocking lever/bolt is something that is adjustable, but it has been so long since I fooled with mine, I need to actually take it out and look. I will take a look at it tomorrow, and come back to this...
