What would you do?

I learned very early on in my airgun endeavors that even sending a gun in for warranty work, more times than not the problems are not resolved. Some made even worse. In buying a new airgun you figure out quick if you have a lemon and return it and move on. I haven't purchased new in a long time though and i think manufacturing is only getting worse. I tell anyone that asks about airguns to learn to service them yourselves so you know what you're getting, good luck.

My sincerest apologies. I didn’t realize the springers were changed from 1 to 5. I haven’t dealt with the springer side of Crosman for a couple years.
No worries, I can see where the confusion comes from on this. The box it came in still says 1 year, but the rep, the dealers website, and the crosman website agree on 5.

So I have a new gun. Covered under warranty for 5 years. The piston seal is bad. I talked to the rep, and they agree the piston seal is the problem.

Option 1 I get a shipping label, send them the gun, and they replace the seal. I maintain the warranty, but have a seal replaced potentially under the same circumstances that caused me to have a bad seal in the first place.

Option 2, they will honor the warranty, and send me a replacement seal to perform the work myself. I will be able to deburr, grease, and assemble with attention to detail as I see fit...probably eliminating whatever caused the failure in the process. The instant I do that, it voids the warranty so any future problems down the line are my problem.
It just so happens that I have a similar conundrum.
Fortunately the warentee work can include the repair, having them install a Vortec kit, degrease the original lube, clean it up, and do some trigger work, while maintaining the warentee.

I am going to call them today. And see if I can strike a deal. I would rather do the work myself. If they will supply a new seal (which they said they would already) and new gas ram in case the one I have has been comprimised by the bad seal allowing it to slam forward with less than ideal resistance I will be happy. Even if it means I void the warranty.

This made Me curious so, I went and looked at My "Shockwave" Box. Shownuff, it says 5 years. I never paid attn before.

New seal and gas ram coming my way free of charge. My first time using a warranty for an airgun I will call a success and then void the warranty doing the work myself.
I suggest that after you do a thorough cleaning that you relube with GPL-205 Krytox.

Tough to judge real sound from a recording through my phone speaker. Have you tried the Decibel-x app for your phone so you can get Db readings?
