Taipan  New Taipan Veteran 2 Standard, .25

As I've posted on another thread, the new Taipan arrived yesterday, this morning before Church I mounted a cheap scope as I wait for my Immersive to arrive. I used one of the wood cradles I make to support the rifle. Both the gun and the cradle worked great!

I'll do a more exact scope mount and sight in with pictures and groups when the Immersive arrives.

Taipan  Went back to the stock barrel shroud on my Taipan Veteran

After a stint of using the Taipan Veteran with just a DonnyFL without the barrel shroud, I decided to go back to just the stock barrel shroud. This all started when I was using my Taipan Veteran Long. I always thought the barrel shroud on that gun is quite a bit too long visually and I didn't like the way it looked so I removed it in place of a DonnyFL. Yes, it was a tiny bit louder with just the DonnyFL but I loved the way it looked and for a backyard varmint rifle that only gets shot once in a while, the trade off was acceptable to me.

Fast forward to this Veteran Standard. When I first got it, I installed the DonnyFL again just because I already have it. However, I've always thought the visual balance of it didn't look as good as it did with the Long version. I reinstalled the stock barrel shroud and I think the stock configuration looks really good with the Standard version. Just looking at it visually, Taipan might have designed the gun around the Standard version and modified the lengths to create the Long and Compact versions. The stock barrel shroud is also MUCH quieter than with the DonnyFL because the stock shroud has around double the volume of the DonnyFL when you consider the back of the shroud as part of the expansion chamber. Now I have to figure out what to do with this extra DonnyFL Ryu. 😅😅😅

HW/Weihrauch  HW77 25mm piston vs. 26mm question

Gentlemen, a few questions to any of you uber knowledgable gurus out there regarding the 25mm piston vs. the 26mm piston

I just stumbled upon an older shooter grade (cosmetically rough) HW77 in .177. I put it over the chrony with 10.3 grain JSB pellets and I was averaging 638 fps for 9.3 ft. lbs, which I think is a bit a bit low. Now the rifle is marked Hull Cartridge, which is an airgun seller in the U.K., so it could be a sub-12 gun, but still a bit low. I took it apart and it was way over lubricated with a thick tar (Maccarri tar?). The seals look ok, but since its apart, I’ll replace them. The spring is pretty good too, a very slight bend at the end. I’m not sure I’ll change that out yet. After degreasing and cleaning, I measured the piston and it’s 25mm. Which leads me to my main question:

is there a power difference between a 25mm and 26mm piston?

Also, could a 25mm piston be a FAC gun?

Thanks!

RAW Rapid  A new RAW HM1000X shooting results in which I had installed a BSA hammer forged barrel

Following are the 15 shots and 5 shots group at 75 yards of a new RAW HM1000X .22 which is made by Airforce and came to me with a bad barrel.

In a previous post I have shared how I got a BSA Hammer Forged barrel and installed on it.

75 yards distance 18.13 grain JSB pellets at 950fps and 15Km winds. Shot by the owner who was with me there.

Following is 15 shots group at 75 yards and 5 shots group at 75 yards

Lovely expansion!

JSB KO 10.03gr V3 slugs going 990fps, hit a smaller iguanas broadside at about 23yards and the slug was lodged under the skin on the other side. 1.5" inches of penetration with full expansion and mushrooming!

The last picture measuring the expanded slug I unfolded the corners to measure what the full flat expansion is without the folding of the corners.

Do I Have a Scope Problem?

I have an Aztec Emerald 5 - 25 x 50 that I've had for a few years. It's mounted on my HW97. I've had periodic issues with sudden shifts in POI. It's good for an extended period then it will suddenly drift or shift to a different POI. I've looked at other potential problems such as loose scope mounts or rings, shifts in muzzle velocity, etc. Sometimes I think I've found the cause but then it happens again. It is frustrating the heck out of me. I spend all my time testing the scope. I have changed to another cheaper scope I have and have not seen problems with the other scope, but I don't shoot it for a long time because I don't like the coarse reticle and parallax issues.

The image below illustrates a puzzling shift in poi. It's not the worst I've seen but it is a decent illustration. I was changing from shooting JSB 8.44 pellets to the heavy 10.34 grain pellets and re-zeroing the scope. It had been shooting normally for about thirty shots prior to this change. I've numbered the shots I took as I worked on zeroing the scope for the heavier pellet. I made an initial vertical adjustment of about 7 clicks to account for the bigger drop then started shooting. See the image below to track the process. I made one adjustment after the first two shots were right on top of one another. Then there were a lot of rather random seeming shots as I tried to confirm the adjustment. Then suddenly on shot 14 and 15 the POI jumps up a good two MOA. After the second one hit in the same spot I adjusted the scope back down and took a number of more shots to try to confirm that change. I finally got tired of messing with the zero and started shooting individual shots at the remaining targets. I shot at least 25 individual shots, all of which were pretty much on target.

So what would explain that big shift and then a solid consistent zero? The scope rings were torqued to spec. The rifle is shooting a reasonable consistent muzzle velocity. How do I explain a two MOA shift?

scope zero.jpg

108yrds and 110yd shots

Took these two iggys down at 108ydd and 110yds. The wind was blowing 5-7mph so it was messing with me on the left to right a for a few shots but one took a clean eye shot and the other took a neck shot and both were put down effectively!

Impact M3 shooting the JSB KO 10.03gr V3 at 990fps they were running 1060fps before and shooting very well but I experienced fliers and a lot more wasted air. So I turned down the valve to about 4 lines and there are no fliers and it is on point!

Glimpse of Invasive Iguanas

Hey guys, this is not my video. But I wanted to showcase to y'all just how bad the iguana problen can be when concentrated. This is how it gets in golf courses that are manned and unmanned. We have a little of 1200 golf courses down here and although our problen is mostly localized in South Florida they have made their way up to central Florida.

I personally consider myself lucky that our states allows us to hunt these guys with air rifles. If we couldn't we would be inundated with them. I've personally taken over 9k in the last 4 years. I just started doing removal of them full time last year.

They may not be going anywhere but we do try to make a dent in their population. Usually whatever number of iguanas you see, you need to multiply at by 10 to get an idea of how many there are in the area.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Leshiy Classic .25 $1000 OBO

Selling my buddy's Leshiy Classic, it drop from his truck and the end cap crossthreaded into the extension. The cap is $40 to replace from edgun.shop. aside from that the gun works and shoots very well. I've managed to get 53fpe out of this gun before shooting 34gr pellets at 848fps, currently tuned to 789fps.

I tried to shoot an 8 shot string and get it recorded but for some reason my FX chronograph decided it wasn't going to cooperate with me and that was the last of my .25 ammo

This leshiy also comes with the STO core, I may have the original baffle somewhere around as well.

Taipan  New Taipan Veteran 2 & GX CS-3I

The Veteran arrived today from Utah Airguns. The compressor arrived yesterday. I'm not new to PCPs but it has been a handful of years since I last used one.
I read directions on both units.

The "stop" filling needle is pretty course on the compressor. The needle on the Taipan is quite thin. I set the compressor stop on what I believe to read 250 bar. When the stop is reached the Taipan is just a smidge over 200 bar. Which one do I believe? I read some posts here on the forum, one fellow said don't believe either one.

I"m thinking I would go by the gun gauge and when it says 250-260 bar stop?

Should I be thinking about replacing either or both gauges for something better/accurate? If so, what?

Thanks

FX  What would cause a leak from this hole on my Dreamline?

I'm still chasing my Dreamline leak. I put my finger over this hole on the power plenum and felt air:

IMG_3301.png

I figured it's a regulator leak. I actually have a second fully assembled power plenum, so I put that one and gassed it up. Same leak! Am I unlucky enough to have two leaky regs? Is there something else I'm missing? What o-rings would fix the problem?

Thanks.

I increased my FPS and accuracy .

I was thinking back when I was a teenager and how putting a racing stripe would make your car faster so...
I added a white spacer between the butt pad and stock and I'll be darned I think the Cometa shoots faster and is more accurate .
Can this be possible? :ROFLMAO:

Needed/wanted PCP tools?

While looking for an answer in the search function, I noticed a comment about reverse tweezers to make it easier to take out a hard-to-get oring. A little thing but it got me thinking about all the tools I have acquired for this hobby and thought it might be useful, especially for newbies, to compile a list. Please feel free to add.

So, here goes-

Micro scale for pellet weighing in grains
Reverse tweezers
Brass picks for orings
Digital caliper
Small needle nose pliers
Chronograph
SAE and metric Allen wrenches
Phillips screw drivers
Torque wrenches
Cleaning equipment (ie for barrels)
pcp filling equipment (compressor?)
Polishing tools
Clamping scissors
Small brushes
Flashlight
Endoscope for inspection
Bubble levels
Small vise
Air blowing device
Snap ring pliers
Loupe magnifier
