Hello, can anyone think of .22 and .25 cal rifles that hit extra hard in the $1,000 and under range. Not interested in FX. I know Ghost has HP models but not looking for that kind of spending. Looking for 55-85 fpe would be great.

I am wondering if anyone has done a tall target test on an air rifle. Just wondering how the 100yd MOA target would convert at 50yd starting point. I was thinking about measuring to the center of a piece of cardboard, marking it, and just adjusting for elevation at 50 yards.

Does anyone know where I can get a Huben GK1 .22 caliber V2? I have a V3, but I prefer the design of the second run.

Hatsan has a reputation of reaching or exceeding their claimed energy numbers. I had numerous hatsans and same case with every one.

This factor sniper L should put out 115fpe in 25. I’m getting only 85fpe and i have tried many different pellets.

Reg pressure about 150 bar and hammer adjustment maybe 70% of max seems to give best power.

Do i have a faulty gun or has anyone else got the claimed fpe out of their gun?

I think I can say I've reached where I have wanted to with my PCP airguns. I have 4 at the moment but possibly will be down to 3 soon maybe 2. My Taipan Vet Long .22 is an incredible shooter and my Long range precision pesting rig. My Taipan Vet Short .22 is also a great shooter and paired with my Arken Zulus a great pesting tool and soon to be night rig now that it gets dark again at a decent time. My Evol Mini also just an amazing little gun. Haven't shot it much since getting the Vets as I planned on selling but have thought about keeping it. Would setup for in the barn use honestly for lower power/higher shot count and a red dot for ultimate close range pester. Will likely sell though. Then my Notos. Great little value airgun and fun to shoot. Might be letting my nephew borrow it to learn how to shoot more. He's a lefty and would be a great gun for him to learn on. At least more than a red Ryder that he shoots now lol.

But I think I have fullfilled my uses and have no need to pursue other airguns. I'm covered in all areas I can use PCPs and don't think I can improve on what I have. It's a weird feeling but think I'm welcoming of it.

On that note I guess it's on to springers lol. Just bought one that I could have a self contained version for close/midrange pesting I can keep in my truck always. Also to challenge myself again and get back to the nostalgia that I fell in love with airguns all those years ago shooting birds with my cousin with our old Winchester Daisy 1000x airguns.

But not giving up on PCPs, just the pursuit of the next one. Just gonna enjoy what I have. Anyone else reach that same train of thought?

Since pulling up my outdoor range, giving my targets away, and selling 16 of my 22 prized and immaculate super accurate rifles, I haven't spent much time on the forum. I miss all of my terrific friends cultivated on this forum over the now several years.

This website and forum is a real tribute to this hobby. I hope you all know how lucky you are to have it and each other to share the airgun hobby with and as a resource.

My 200,000 rounds of airgun ammo has now been sold off to just more than enough to probably last me more than a lifetime, and I will likely in the end keep all but one of the remaining rifles for under 50 yard occasional use in the back yard and more regular use on my indoor range, especially in the winter time.

I thought you might be interested to know that of all of the terrific rifles I posted reviews of over the years and that many of you now own, the rifles I chose to keep (of course sensational performers) consist of:

1. An Air Arms Scott Schneider Motorhead tuned .22, with Huma regulator added - my very first PCP purchased more than 20 years ago and always one of the most dependable and accurate in my collection
2. A custom stocked Weihauch HW97K in .20 that will shoot a sub .10" 10 shot groups on my indoor 18 yard range, and consistently 3/4" at 50 yards outdoors in favorable wind conditions
3. A Daystate Wolverine R in .177 - favoring the 13.43 Gr Jumbo Monster pellets - stacks virtually one hole and is a blast with the indoor RX target set
4. Arguably the most accurate rifle I own, a Charlie Frear Georgia Airguns tuned .22 Cricket Long - I recently shot both a .01" 10 shot group at 18 yards indoors and a .03" 10 shot group at 50 yards outdoors with it
5. A Martin Rutherford modified and tuned .22 HM1000X - Chassis - with Cerekote finish and MagPul hardware - shoots the 25.39 Redesigneds into 1/2" 10 shot groups at 50 yards all day long
6. A Daystate Wolverine R HP in .22 that loves and stacks the H&N Baracuda Match 21.14 Gr pellets.

I have yet to retire and stay pretty busy. My wife is enjoying my focus shift to other things, as well as our checkbook not being impacted as often.

One thing that seems to have been a so far unstoppable trend in airguns has been the ever increasing maximum pressure used. Antique pneumatics operated at pressures under 1000 psi and while CO2 might exceed that on a hot day it was mostly under 1000 psi too. When more modern PCP's came out their maximum pressure was largely capped by the pressure of scuba tanks and the work of hand pumping. Because scuba tanks typically only held 3000 psi when full and the early guns were unregulated, this resulted in a typical gun being fully charged at 2700 psi or less. Of course most were rated for 3000, but their sweet spot was typically lower than that.

With the advent of carbon fiber tanks, affordable compressors and regulated guns it seems the new standard is 4500 psi. Sure some guns still do fine with less, but when you've got a regulator and your compressor can give you 4500 psi every time more pressure means more power and more shots per fill.

Things don't really stop at 4500 psi though. Hubens have a max fill of 5000 psi and the new AEA air cartridges actually fire at 5000 psi and AEA also has a new big bore that's designed for 6000 psi.

This makes for some interesting possibilities and potential hazards. What happens when we start working with 10,000 psi? At that point airgun performance will actually be on par with many centerfire powder burners. I can't help but think they will also be inherently more hazardous than powder burners due to the reservoirs and valves always being under pressure. There will also be the obvious hazard of people overfilling their older guns. For decades now I've heard fear mongering about coming regulation of airguns. 20 years ago it was because of powerful big bores. These days it's because of full auto. What seems far more likely to me however is if we have a rash of deaths and injuries due to 10,000 psi cylinders and overfills that the various regulatory agencies will step in and regulate us from a consumer safety standpoint.

For those of you with an engineering background, what's holding us back from a physics standpoint? Is there a maximum practical pressure that we will reach simply due to the molecular properties of air or the physical complications involved with compressing it?

Hearing talk from the US that Crosman/ Daisy has gone under according to some US YT vid makers, and that YT shooting video maker Paul Harrell has died

When I was a kid I learned to shoot a BB gun about 4 years old. My favorite targets were plastic army men thumbtacked to a board floating down the canal.

My father was a west Texas cowboy and he expected me to "go a plankin" every evening after chores. I was 8 years old before I discovered it was called "plinking" and not "planking".

As an old coot I have entered my second childhood. Now I'm plankin' with a spranger. I play with plastic army men, toy dinosaurs and shotgun shells.

I was cleaning out my target box today and realized it was almost an art form. So much better than paper with holes in it. I thought someone might enjoy seeing it....

Green army men and red pirates. 25-35 yards. .410 at 35 yards. 12 gauge at 35-45. The gorilla family at 55 yards. The T Rex and the lion at 65. Various dinosaurs filling the gaps.



We like headshots on army men at 25.



We call the T Rex "Pimples" He's taken many hits. When the temperature is hot he collects pellets. When it cools off he spits them out.



At 70 we shoot a bright green coffee tumbler hanging from a bush. At 75 a propane cylinder we call "Dimples". At 80-100 an aluminum cylinder that rings like a church bell.



I find "a plankin' with a spranger" a lot more fun than shooting targets. I get frustrated shooting groups. Especially with a springer. Especially at range.

Shooting "stuff" that challenges your skills is IMO a much better way to develop practical skills. Its also less stress. You celebrate your hits as they fly through the air and try to hit them again. Your misses teach you a lesson and are forgotten. It's nothing but pure fun.

I bet there are as many guys here shooting cans and various objects as targets. What "stuff" do you shoot? How do you set up your spranger plankin' range?

So I just recently purchased a Crossman rifle .177 caliber to do some rodent control, and I read that the pointed steel pellets work great with this rifle. Well I purchased the daisy .177 caliper steel pointed pellets 250 CT. I load the rifle and pumped it released the safety, pulled the thing on the side I forget what it's called and aimed and pulled the trigger, nothing came out. I checked and the pellets look it was mangled but it just sits there but it will not shoot out! Am I doing something wrong or are these pellets not meant for this rifle? Please help. This is my first time owning one!

The transfer port lock knob was cracked and would not hold tight so I installed a large silver flat washer and Allen cap screw on the right side and it holds its setting just fine now. We are getting cooler temperatures for the first time in months but I'm not sure it was that because it happened later this morning. But the smoke alarm that always seems to need something started chirping. I tried a new battery but that did not fix it. It was not old, not sure what the issue is. But I just ordered a new one from Amazon (different brand) and decided to have a little fun with the useless one. I shot it 8 or 9 times with my P35-177 spitting out H&N Baracuda FTs at about 880 fps. The smoke detector was 35 yards from my gun. The first shot knocked the detector over but did not go through. By after 8 I had holes in the back too. Next I pulled out my Caiman X in 22 which is shooting H&N Baracuda 18s at a little over 900 fps. That put some bigger holes through it and busted off some parts. My P35-25 has a slow leak (takes days to show up on the gauge and weeks to drain the air) so it was going to get a couple new O-rings and needed to be drained. I only shot the dectector 3 times with the 25, it was shooting JSB Heavies at about 770 fps (down from 800 due to the cool weather). The first two shots just clipped the edge of the detector. I was aiming at that corner because I could see the speaker in there but either the scope is off a bit or there was wind drift (it's windy today). But I got a good smack on it with the third shot. I did not destroy the speaker but I put a pretty good hurt on it. Satisfying. The last two pictures were at the end. The second one is after the 22 caliber hits and the first is what I started with.

As we've at least 1 airgun over 20 years old (without a leak) and I simply do not shoot much anymore I have taken to just checking them every now and then.
Having trouble seeing seeing bulls after shot so moved it 3 clicks and a big mush (?) left at 50. Only fired 30 shots as it seemed just fine.
Silly umarex should have (kept &) promoted the .177 in FT ! Has to be the best entry level FT rig ever sold. The B50 was great but the gauntlet with reg, stock design and just enough weight to be stable at the Low introductory price darn sure would have sold if promoted even slightly. Nothing other than a light barrel clean and trigger adjustment. It really is my poor shooting -and hitting tall grass more than once-not the rifle showing., it will do better.
BUT The 10 shot clip is feeling a bit odd so I looked for a new one online and it seems to not be available? Anyone know is some other clip (marauder or...) might fit? Even with a little work?

One finger cocking and a great single stage trigger but too many budget gun haters & folks wanting RF power when it came out. Shame.
