A few years ago when the PP 700 came out I thought , China junk, Man was I wrong, The PP750 showed me, and the Hubens taught me, that I am WRONG,, Oh did I say I also have a Huben KI 22 rifle , Well this is a pistol form we will keep it pistols, Just dont be a dumb as-s like me and think Junk, Its not, And I hate buying from China , I keep telling myself Its just a sport..

HW/Weihrauch  HW 80 build .22 long rifle.

This is a older HW 80 ,.22 I made for myself. I rarely use any barrel longer than 13 inches shrouded, to 17 with some internal work . However; I wanted this gun to look like a classic Remington 700 look

It’s very accurate but took some time to get used to the ballance of 500mm barrel.
20 ft lbs and a breeze to cock with a 29 coil spring and custom guides and top hat, minor port work.
Since I never use sights I machined the breech to match the chamber like a Uk Tommy. Reblued to factory finish..

custom feather crotch walnut stock.

Shot cycle is dead ,but a louder snap than I’m used to as there is no shroud.
Time to checker the custom feather crotch Claro walnut

N/A  Painting a PCP tank?

Hi everyone.
So I have seen little to nothing on the World Wide Web on this topic.
Why is no one painting their PCP air gun tanks?.

I see so many people are customizing their guns to make them unique for themselves, but nowhere have I seen anyone with a painted bottle.
Just wondering why?

Most people if any that I know of don’t get the tanks on their guns. Pressure tested only the large refill tanks and a lot of people are using aftermarket tanks anyways which can’t be hydrotested. If they’re not DOT certified.

Why then could we not Hydro dip and clearcoat a tank for our guns?

I have seen quite a few nitrous oxide bottles, custom painted as well as pneumatic cylinders for cars, that never accustom painted air gun tank?

I realize that completely painting a tank could cover up the original manufacturing labeling, but a quick snap of a picture could take care of that.. I could also see people being creative in painting around the label..

FX  M4 with hybrid slugs

I just dropped this tune on my Impact M4. I’m sure I could reduce the reg a bit, but I’d prefer for the reg to be the engine instead of the hammer.

IMG_7873.jpeg

Currently the goal is to smoothly shoot the 22g FX Hybrid slugs between 980-990 FPS.

First I’ll try it with the standard liner, then switch to a heavy liner if the results aren’t good. If neither of those yield the results I’m looking for then I’ll switch back to the standard liner and reduce the velocity to about 930 FPS.

Tuning  How do you choke a barrel ?

I normally remove a bit of material from the OD of muzzle end around 3/4". This removal of material is gradual in dia. A bit more material removal from the crown end and tapering it gradually.

Then I make bush having ID of reverse gradual tapering.

Then I push fit the bush on the muzzle end of the barrel and the barrel becomes choked and gives the desired results.

Please share how do you choke your barrels if needed.

RWS  Did I damage my gun.

I was cleaning my RWS 350 and I accidentally hit the safety and touched the trigger and the barrel slammed shut. Luckily no concussion or sheared finger tips. I did shoot it after and it seemed to shoot just as hard. I need to check with my chrono. My question is even if the velocity does not change., did I do any damage to any component of the gun and how can I check for it. I realize the RWS 350 safety is not as safe as the HW and FWB 124 safeties as they require a lot of force to engage while the RWS 350 is easily moved. Thinking slamming the barrel shut is not as bad as a dry fire. Please advise.

JTS  First Problem with the "Cuda"

So, I have been leaving My rifle Connected to My tank and added air as needed. After the bottle reached My desired PSI I just left it hooked up to the Tank. It's been hooked up for about 4 days. I shot the Tank down to about 2000 psi and said, time to top the tank off again. It has turned pretty chilly here and the Rifle, tank and all were very Cold. So I went to disconnect, I relieved the Pressure from the Fill whip and air started coming out of the Fill nipple on the Rifle. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Could the one way Fitting just be too cold to close all the way? I brought it in so it can warm up and then I can try putting air back in and see if it holds. Just wondering if others have had a similar experience?

Importance of scope zero

Spent a bunch of time with a gun on Saturday. Doped out actual trajectories from 10-55 yards with three slightly different scope zeros. Bored enough today that I played with that raw data on Excel a bit and thought it interesting enough of a visual to share here.

Gun is a USFT that average 915fps with JSB 10.34s. Slow twist polygonal rifled barrel.
Scope is a Athlon Midas Tac in MIL.

trajectories.jpg

x axis - distance in yards
y axis - holdover (expressed as 1/10 of a MIL, ie 22 would be 2.2 mils of holdover or 22 clicks if dialing)

Each of the 3 different trajectory curves are produced by a slightly different zero. In theory, the three curves should be identical but simply shifted on the graph. I suspect the reason they're not identical is multifactorial: due to the reticle having mostly 0.5mil increments (0.2mil from 0 to 1mil and 0.5 from 2MIL down) due the less precise nature of holdover (this data was collected using holdover, versus dialing the turret), and simply human error.

The gray has most of the scope zero in the hold UNDER area. Most FT shooters try to avoid hold UNDER, although I've known a couple who could be competitive using hold UNDER.

The blue and red are the more likely candidates for how I typically like to set up a gun/scope. The difference being as subtle as 3 yards for the beginning of the zero distance (22 yards versus 25 yards).

I find a couple things interesting:
  • All three intersect at nearly 24 yards. So, if a guy was to zero his scope at 24 yards, and shoot at 10 and 55 and then plug that info into strelok, he runs the risk of not being aware of the slight hold UNDERs from 25 to 39-40 yards.
  • With this particular scope, ranging to the yard from 20-25 is less repeatable than optimal. This makes the blue configuration the best for me. Because that makes 22-25 yards part of my zero range. If I was to use a scope zero that coincides with the red trajectory, I'd have trouble with the 20-25s because 20 yards is 0.6mils of holdover versus 0.2 mils of holdover with blue. On that same vein, 21 yards with red is 0.4mils of holdover, but 0 mils of holdover with blue.
    • (this particular scope is more trustable on determining 45 from 50 from 55 (5yard increments) than it is on determining 1 yard increments from 20-25.)
  • A fringe benefit of a initial zero of 22 versus 25 yards (blue versus red) is that my 10 yard holdover is reduced with the blue.

In summary, KNOWING you trajectory (and to a lesser extent comparing how that curve falls on the 10-55 yardages with slightly different scope zeros) is crucial to the field target game. And also knowing your scope's strengths and weaknesses allows you to shift the scope zero to capitalize on those strengths and weaknesses.

Spending time setting up an optimal scope zero pays off during matches. Figuring out where pellets are going to go during practice ensures that they'll go where you want them to go during matches.

Quick work with the GK1

Took these four egyptian geese out with headshots in less than thirty seconds. I really love the huben platforms, I love the ability to pest and change targets quickly without taking my hand of the trigger. Getting these guys to move to a safer spot to shoot took way longer than shooting them. As far as I know, there is only one Egyptian goose caller, and I have not seen any reviews on it. So I call them using youtube egyptian goose sounds, and this usually has a 50/50 chance of them flying away to join a flock or walking around and following me. This time around they followed the noise on foot for about 7 minutes until they decided to just keep wandering. Not sure if the building walls echos were messing with where they could her the calls from but they put themselves in a favorable position, which I quickly took advanteg of!
