FX  Rear air leak

Good day
I need some advice please. I bought a new Fx impact 700mm .22 m3 fitted with a slug liner and slug kit (pinprobe/tungsten hammer and lighter valve return spring)
The 1st reg is on 150 bar and the 2nd reg on 108 bar. Shooting 25 grain 218 H&N slugs 984 fps and grooping is very good at 100 meters. Hammer on 12, mico at 3.75 and the valve 3 turns out. Shooting 30 grain H&N at 935 fps but with a problem

The problem i have is, once you open the valve 4.5 turns and put the hammer on 16 and shoot a shot there's an air leak at the rear end at the magazine/power block rear/barrel area ONLY when you pulling the cocking lever back to load a slug. You can hear it clearly it is not the plenum filling with air. Once you push the cocking lever forward the leak stops. If you turn the valve in say to line 3 the leak stops.
If you just pulling the cocking lever back without shooting a shot, there is no leak. The gun is also not leaking air when standing for days.
Could it be the lighter valve return spring, causing the valve to stay open longer.
Would you recommend to put the stronger original valve return spring back.
Regards

Air Arms  Has anyone ever tried this with a ProSport?

Has anyone ever tried simply removing the Front Guide from a ProSport, and reassembling it with the stock FAC spring without it, to bring the power level down?

If so, did it cause any problems?

How much did it bring it down to?

I'm wondering if this is a cheap and easy way to bring our .177 cal. PS down to around 12 ft/lb.

British Shooting Show 2024 Coverage from Wisconsin AirGunners

I had the chance to attend the British Shooting Show as part of the DonnyFL/Saber Tactical team this weekend and have some videos coming out on this playlist that some may find interesting.
PJ Clarke

Is my airgun 5% slower in the winter due to the specific heat of the air?

I was surprised when my most accurate PCP (my P35-22) shot a couple sub-190 30 yard challenge targets. I think the secret is the barrel was dirty but in my investigations I was also surprised to find the velocity was about 40 fps slower than in the summer. About 5% lower. I looked up the specific heat difference and from 85 F to freezing it was only about 1% lower. Some may be lubricant on the hammer thickening up but I also wonder if some is not the little bit of water in the compressed air. It's really dry here now and definitely not at all dry in the summer. I don't think I am at 100% relative humidity at 300 bar even in the summer. I see no evidence of condensation inside the air chamber of the gun. But it seems logical that there may still be a little more water in the compressed air in the summer. And less in the winter. Could the lower specific heat of the compressed air be a large part of the reason our airguns shoot slower in the winter?

Chronograph problems......

I know damn well I can't be the only one here to do this but, who else has accidently SHOT their Chronograph? I done that earlier today while gathering data for my P-Rod after installing a heavy hammer spring. I clipped the little hood over the display on my Cauldwell. No damage per se, at least nothing a small file can take care of.

Hatsan  So I drank the kool-aid (or was it Jet fuel?) and found the perfect plinker

For $125 that is. I had never considered getting a Jet, but Midway kept dropping the price until the Jet 1 in .177 was $125 with free shipping. Couldn't resist, and it has been a ton of fun. With some very basic tuning, it's turned into a very decent shooter. The stock hammer spring is too strong. Removing a coil and a half produced a shot curve instead of a cliff. The trigger is adjustable and gets under 2 lbs no problem. I ordered a couple of 14 round aluminum mags (I think they're from the Sortie?) that function perfectly. They are pretty tall and block a little bit of the dot sight, but it's fine, especially if you shoot both eyes open. I've been shooting at 24 yards. 1.75 in spinners are easy, and it's a great for plinking at cans and plastic golf balls (the hollow kind, not the real thing. Learned that lesson as a kid!) The 28 round shot string goes from 626 to 761 with an average of 709, SD 38. Stopping at the first 14 bumps up the average to 734, SD 12, but you can see the second plate is about the same as the first. This is with CPHPs and filling to 3000. I use a scuba tank so tried to get the best results in that range. Midway also had the Jet 2 for $135, so yep, I've got that one too, but that's a story for another day. Happy plinking!

Kral Arms  My latest project

While waiting on parts for my other Kral build 😏, I decided to build another Kral!

I came across this Rambo pump action breech block from Canada shooting supply, and had an old cut down gen 1 marauder stock that was meant for a bottle project.

I inletted the stock for the kral action, which went surprisingly well. The tube channel is the same size, and the rear trigger guard hole in the stock lined up with the hammer spring set screw threads. Gauge dropped right in! I just had to move the front action screw up about 1/2" to get to the original Kral lug hole.
Rocking an NP03 air tube, and I removed the NP03 style trigger and drilled/tapped the trigger block piece that drops the sear so I can attach a standard rifle trigger. I may do that on my other np03 build thats going rifle. Right now it's just got a 5-40 screw for a trigger lol. Will go up to 6-32 for the trigger post.

Waiting on an Np02 barrel for it, and then making a moderator that will clear the air tube. OAL will be around 35" when done. Currently it sits just shy of 31"

FWB  FWB 124 Sport

I found a FWB 124 Sport with Beeman 66R 2-7x32 scope, and universal muzzle brake at a local gunshop. Unfortunately, after a few test shots at home the scope reticle rotated but here's no rattle sound. The rifle has some twang and seems like it's slightly underpowered. It's in excellent condition and will need a tune up.

I called the shop and they said I can bring it back on Monday to discuss my options.I paid $460 and can get an ARH tune kit for about $90.

If they won't partially refund for the scope cause it was sold as a kit or consignment should I write off the scope as a loss and keep the 124? Also, are there any options for a scope repair on the Beeman Blue Ribbons/Hakkos?

Arken Optics just announced 2 brand new Zulus models at the 2024 G.B. Shooting Show.

1. A new thermal Zulus unit that combines thermal and I.R., all into 1, compact unit.

2. A new 3-12 version of the existing Zulus, and is suppose to be priced even less than the current 5-20 version.

Both models are suppose to focus down to aprox. 15', and be available in April.

RAW Rapid  RAW barrel changes....

I received my barrels for my RAW BM500x & installed both to check fitment. Didn't really need to as they measured fine.
LW SS .25 24" unchoked .71 dia.
Lilja SS .177 28" also unchoked .75 dia.
Martin did the fitment machining on both & did a superb job. I will start to test them out soon starting with the .25 & slugs.

Results  Ultimate Field Target at PRGC, 2/24/24 Match Report

For many of us, this was the first long range/high power ft match in a very long time! It was the first time I've seen some of these airgun friends in MONTHS, and it was great to catch up and chat and laugh and just generally enjoy airguns together.

The weather was perfect...slightly overcast, very little wind, temps just shy of 80. Just about ideal for a field target match, and stellar conditions for the month of February. The range has seen enough winter moisture that it's greening up. Lots of color out there for a February. It was really nice to feel the sun and see some green-kinda felt like the groundhog...didn't see my shadow and optimistic that spring will arrive early.

We had a total of 19 shooters come out today, 15 contested the pellet class, 2 in slug, and 2 in rimfire.

Here's the gang...
group photo.jpg

Ben set a pretty tough course for us this month. Luckily the wind was VERY kind. Had we dealt with typical PRGC winds, it would have been an even more challenging day.
Far right column here is Extreme Troyer Factor....some background on that here: https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/extreme-troyer-factor.868700/

yellow highlighted = 3 highest Ts
green highlight = average T for the course
distances and kz and troyer.jpg

And the scorecard....The 6 right-most columns have data for those 3 highest T targets, plus the 2x100 yard targets, plus the offhand lane. As I compiled the data I noticed some things.....Nobody went 14/14 on these theoretically "hardest" targets. Steve M (overall match high) was understandably the closest, just missing 2 of the 100 yarders. A couple were able to go 4/4 on the 100 yarders, and a couple were 4/4 on the offhand shots.
scoreboard.jpg

The green highlights in the chart above are first time field target shooters. I was squadded with Ed and we had a good time. It's fun to watch somebody experience their first match, reminds me of why we all love it so much. There's the frustration of missed targets, and the elation of knocking down a hard one, the lessons learned for a first time, and the general resolve to come back and do better next time. These three first timers certainly held their own on those 14 hardest shots that are charted above, they're right in there with everybody else, going 2/2 on the 50T shot as an example. And they each got at least 1 of the offhand shots.

Here are the winners. Left to right: Wes, Kent, Steve, Wayne, Bobby

Post match there was a bit of discussion about the new class of electronic scopes and how they fit into this game. Just like in the past when there's been equipment debate, it went to a vote of the shooters. If I understood correctly, the decision was for the electronic scopes to be given a trial period. The big question.....do they offer enough of an advantage that their users need to be in a separate class? Or are they just another option for optics and can be contained within the current classes. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I know there are a lot more rimfire shooters in the the greater Phoenix area than we're seeing here. I've heard guys with PRS/NRL experience say that field target is pretty much PRS/NRL without having to lay down in the dirt and monkey around on obstacles. I've got to say that I agree fully. Field target is shot from a stool and shooting sticks/bipod. It offers an excellent way for guys to still enjoy a challenging shooting experience, without being excessively challenged, in a physical sense. Call it a more civilized/non-military version of PRS/NRL. And even for those that have young bodies and willing (to crawl around in the dirt) minds, long range/high power field target would be a great way to hone your skill set. I can guarantee a PRS/NRL shooter's game in those areas will benefit from time spent shooting high power/long range field target. On top of all that, there is nowhere else in the country allowing rimfires to be shot in field target events. So, you Phoenix rimfire shooters, come on down! We'd love to see more rimfire guys come out and give this a try. Fair warning (and yes, a challenge) you'll have to contend with Steve M, whose talent and crazy high BC airgun slugs combine for impressive scores. And you'll also be measured against some very talented pellet shooters.

Thanks to Phoenix Rod and Gun Club for hosting our events. And to Ben for running the match. And to Wayne M and Barb for running sign-in. And to Wes, Ed, Scott, Dan, and Tony for taking nearly all the photos seen here. I arrived right as the match started and probably missed seeing other people that lent a hand as well. Thank you, your help is appreciated!

Is it worth keeping my air rifles now that i moved in to the city & have nowhere to shoot it? Nosey neighbours!

I have a problem and that is i moved in to the city where my back yard is only 10 yards long and I have neighbours on all sides The houses on every road are all in a row and everyone's gardens are joined together but seperated by 5 Ft wooden fences. I tried shooting my air rifle and the neighbour on the right side threatened to call the police & the other neighbour on the left side looked over the fence and said its bothering him.
I have nowhere to shoot my air rifle.

I could do to a air rifle club but the nearest ones is over a hour away & I don't have a car so I cant carry that heavy air rifle and case 1+ hour on public transport its usually packed in the trains and buses.

Should I get stop buying any more air rifles and sell the one I have or what would you recommend I do. If I keep it it will just be sitting in my house.
