I have just been reading the RAW airguns =low quality thread. Unanimously it was agreed that there has been no real loss of quality between old and new and there was strong agreement that although they are very good out of the box, there are things that can be done to make them so much better.

Here is a list of the things I have done to my RAW and rapids that not only improve consistency, efficiency, accuracy, smoother and quieter but also makes gun feel nicer to shoot. For context, I almost exclusively work on sub12fpe airguns so some of my modifications may not be appropriate for higher power.

Barrel, re-crown, polish, stepped transfer port from 4.75mm down to 2.8mm, form a small lead into breech for better pellet insertion.
Calibre specific sound moderator typical 0.5mm larger than pellet Dia.
Lighter hammer, silent acetal tip to hammer pip, a PTFE hammer support sleeve to stabilise and centralise the hammer inside the block (reduces vibration noise)
Either an SSG device or a heavier inertia weight (in ptfe sleeve) to increase efficiency
Ground and polished hammer spring, ptfe spring guide to reduce friction and twang.
New valve with 5.5mm front port and 5mm top port, new lighter valve stem with stronger return spring
Replace reg pushpin disc and replace it with one that has a smaller hole (0.3mm) peek insert in end of reg core, new .8mm belville washers that I have de-burred on 800grt paper, instead of twin .5mm (these give a neater stack) together these give more consistently over a wider fill pressure.
On 1000x block only, Fill the reg plenum with acetal plug to reduce volume, this makes the reg quicker to respond to pressure drop.
Replace the probe with either a non retractable version for single loading only or a improved retractable type for use with magazine
Shim the cocking lever to reduce any slop.
Generally, I don’t need to tough the trigger but very occasionally I have polished the trigger sear and replaced trigger blade for aftermarket multi adjustable target type..

Obviously some of these modifications only have minimal gains but collectively they do make a huge difference. I am sure there are other improvements that I haven yet thought of but I’m always willing to learn from others

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm an 80 yo new guy to air guns. My son gave me a Diana .22 350 mag for my birthday last year and while it's been fun I'm getting the itch to upgrade to a PCP. I have a lot of reading and learning to do and it looks like this is just the place to do it.

I'm waiting for my first PCP rifle to arrive, and am figuring out what type of compressor is best for me.
Will be filling direct to the gun (200cc cylinder on it).
My first thought was a GX CS4...but sadly too dear as anything over $NZ1000 imported the NZ Govt and Customs add on another 15%GST tax, plus Custom's fees, plus more tax on top of all that.
OK...the next best is the GX CS3 (or the CS2?), or maybe the Yong Heng.
The CS3 would do the job, but I'm told the CS2 is the same pump but 'naked' (no fancy outer case).
The Yong Heng? Will it last longer than the CS2/CS3 as it may run cooler?
I'll only be topping up the rifle cylinder once a week and the air cooled jobs look more 'simple' for my use, but don't want to buy one and have it die in a year because it's not as good as a water cooled job.
Either choice will still cost over $NZ700 shipped (but at least it stays under the $1000 trigger point for tax, tax, and more tax).

For sale is an Element Helix 6-24x50 scope with the APR-2D FFP MOA reticle. It is in excellent condition and without visible marks or wear of any kind.
It comes with the factory package minus the box and the scope caps. (If the buyer wants to, I can swap Element bikini covers for the Element scope caps; but it is one or the other, not both.)
It is presently mounted and there appears to be tape under the rings to prevent (?) marking, but I do not know if there are ring marks. (If there is a potential buyer, I will take the scope out of the rings to check and report back with new pictures to verify pristine condition or show the marks.)

The rings are not included and are not for sale.

Is it worth it?
They said one is as accurate as the other, ragged hole at 20 or 25 yards, that's what I can do my R9 .177.
AOA has the Hunter in stock now but kind of want to get a different scope.

So you have the EVOL/Epic situation. FX DRS classic with Snowpeak M30 and Remington Vought. Notos and Jet. Now Hatsan has made a copy of the Airmaks Katran. This was the only way I found it on the UK forum.

I know imitation is the highest form of flattery but it seems they just aren't trying anymore. I know there are only so many ways to put an air reservoir, barrel and valve together.

Two weeks ago while trying to adjust the trigger on my Daystate Revere I dropped a unique size captive nut that holds the trigger guard in place.
I spent hours on my hands and knees and belly looking for it but no luck.
I ended up staying up till 2 in the morning making a nut to fit by filing a regular size m6 nut down.
Success I suppose but where the hell did that nut go?
It’s 2 weeks later and I’m taking my tennis shoes off and I see something in my shoe, yep, the missing nut

I am thinking of taking the dive into PCPs. I have been eyeing the HW110 carbine laminate because I like the Weihrauchs. But the Daystate Wolverine R High Power .177 is also catching my eye. I need your guys advice, if I take the PCP dive, what will I also need to get for a PCP? I want something that is precise that can be used for longer distance target practice. What do you recommend and what would I also need to go with getting a PCP? Please let me know, thanks.

First big doozy on AN classifieds WTB slugs. Bought a lot of .22 slugs and shown pictures of tins, bags, boxes, cylinders. Actually got lots of partials to hardly any to empty boxes and damaged ones, messed up slugs. Doubt any recourse as used PP friends and family - still hate paypal. WTF ... venting. Next time I won't do lots etc unless the seller has been here on AN since the beginning of time or stick to retail shops. Sick ...

I have a squirrel problem and the airguns I have are pretty slow pistols. The highest velocity I have are with a Crosman 1377 with 600 fps and a 1322 with 460 fps. I was an active hunter with PB in my youth but have never tried to use an airgun. I searched the forum and found a lot of threads about squirrels and power but none I read really answered my simple question. Given a close range of less than 20 yards, will a faster .177 pellet be more lethal than a slower .22 pellet, or visa-versa? Or is either one too under powered?

Why are there so many refurb wildcats for sale? I have been doing my research on the various smaller FX rifles and these seem to show up a lot?

Picked up a Notos last week and the safety is not working. I’ve backed the trigger screw (the one that’s accessible from the outside)all the way out , but the rifle still fires on safe.

Edit: Sanded down the top of the trigger at the 2nd grub screw and she’s crisp and the safety will now engage.

This post is for anyone with an Armada/Marauder & or a DAR Gen 3, I have been searching and testing slug after slug after slug trying to find something these 2 in particular like, I’ve been through TONS and was about to call it & come to terms with these 2 being strictly pellet spitters! well yesterday I got a Tin of Rifle Slug Series, 18.21gr HPs & holy hell, I only have 45yds on my property at the farthest point I can stretch out, but these 2 groups are each 1 whole mag (10rds) one from the DAR and one from the Armada, (Both on factory out of the box tune) like a laser.. 1/2” maybe sub 1/2” I didn’t measure exactly, my battery is dead in my Mic.. @ 45yds.. I didn’t expect much from these because they are reasonable and not expensive slugs.. but boy oh boy, the search is over.. The Benjamin Armada/Marauder & the DAR (Dynamic Air Rifles) Gen 3 are 3 of my absolute favorite rifles & if this post helps anyone in saving yourself some time & money looking for a slug that works in these particular barrels, Awesome!
