Is it just me or are others “ enamored “ with their airguns?

Men definitely tend to like their machines / equipment.

Love my SUV. When I walk away from it I turn back to look at it….. feeling good about myself.

I find myself enamored with my airguns

I know you guys know what I’m talking about. Man o man I treat them very well.

This is a fun thread guys so have at it

How about you ??

NLA New FT targets for Sale ! New pricing.

Hey guys! Took my new .177 Field Target out for its maiden voyage today at the weekly Tuesday “Old Geezer Match. It was set up at 26yds with a 1” KZ reducer installed and was shot with 12 FP Springers and 20 FP PCP rifles. It worked perfectly. Then at midway it was moved to 53 yds and reducer was removed and then shot at with the same rifles. Again it worked perfectly. Was easy to reset and when paddle was hit it went down.
The reducers are installed on the outside of the faceplate as per AAFTA rules.
I don’t have a video of it working but it is very reliable and showed no damage at all.
I bought my own welder and am doing my own welding. So I am able to reduce the price on them. Anyone that purchased any prior to this I will be dealing with each on an individual basis. I have been asked to have them fall at a 55 degree angle so there is more movement in the target. I will start making more of them and will have mechanisms in stock and will just need to know what faceplate style you want. I can cut almost any design for the faceplate. More intricate designs are a bit more $. The new design now have less welds and and only 3 visible welds.
Contact me if you are interested in them. They are high quality and are not the least expensive targets available they run $130 plus shipping. They come with 2) reducers of your choice.
For a well made and trouble free target give it a try!
I have tested my new design regular FT in 4) matches and yesterday was a 60 shot match. Target worked perfectly and had no issues. I will test it again next Saturday in another local match. But so far so good!

Is this even real?

Ok, has anyone ordered anything from this website ? Cheyennesports.com , I'm going to put a few screen shots below, so you guys can see why I'm asking this lol, look at some of the prices of this stuff , it can't be real . I know if something is too good to be true it is, but I gotta ask man ,anyone actually ordered anything from here and got what they were supposed to?
I've done as much research as I can on the website name, and the info I've found on the website. They seem legit, but I mean ,,,,it can't be dude,, $70 for a Benjamin Armada PCP?...
Under $100 for PCP bullpups? And a big bore?
What I've posted are just a few examples, there are hundreds of items on this website including pistols, range gear, and scopes, all of them at ridiculously cheap prices. Wtf? It can't be, cause if it is, I'm about to spend a whoooooooooole lotta money 🤣🤣

Parallax

Ok so, I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but is parallax really necessary for air rifle Scopes?
99 percent of the time I shoot from a table, exactly 21 yards from the tip of my barrel to the target stand. Sometimes I'll get up and move in closer to shoot cans, 10-15 yards. I'm looking at some scopes for my new PCP, all of the cool ones I want, don't have parallax adjustment. So, as far as I understand, parallax mostly just let's you focus better when you're zoomed in beyond say 10 or so. The scope I'll get will be at least a 14x , I like to really see the little targets I shoot. Maybe even more, I'm looking at a pinty 4-24x that comes with a red dot and some other stuff, is parallax necessary? I would some opinions on that. Thanks guys 👍

P Rod

So I broke out the chronograph and spent a few hours tuning and twisting screws. I watched several vidios before I started.
I set it at 6 turns on the big screw and 1 on the little screw { I forgot the proper names} 3000 psi fill. I shot three strings of 8.
st string was 377 fps with a low of 360 and a high of 387.
2nd string was 356 fps and 3rd was 432 fps
I tried 8 turns the eight shot string came out for a whopping 328 fps.
9 turns came out 452 fps averge for 8 shots
10 turns gave 422 fps.
all testing was done with crossman 14.3 Hp.
This is a preowned gun and I don't know the histroy. When I watch the vidieos they are showing much better fps . At this rate I am not shooting pellets I am lobbing them.
My point of impact is wildly vertical. By 4 or 5 inches at 30 yards.
Is there something I need to replace. The gun does not leak air.
Please someone help.
Thanks Bulletbob

JSB seems like the clear winner

I shoot 177, 22,25, and now the 30 caliber Pellets, I have pellet guns so I shoot pellets, The big exception to that may be the 30 caliber LW barrel I have for my Prophet , Not really missed around with it a lot as 30 is a little over kill for my 48 yard range, In all my testing I seem to only be shooting the JSB pellets out of my PCP guns, I save the others for my springers and my Pistols spring, pump and PCP, So I got stacks of H&N, Crosman, Benjamin, RWS, Seems I will never run out of the what I call the second hand pellets.
Oh I did see some Ed GUN 33.95 22 caliber pellets was that a mis print?

SOLD EDIT- EVERYTHING IN THIS AD ALL SOLD-Lowered price! (2)Athlon BTR Gen2 10-40 x 56, 2 sets mounts and anti cant levels

***EDIT- ALL ITEMS SOLD!!
Selling (2) Athlon ArGos BTR Gen2 10-40 x 56 Bench scope, which were sent back to me new under warranty. The two previous ones I had that I bought used here on the classifieds failed Athlons recoil test. They were the first Gen on these benchrest scopes as these new ones came back with a much larger parallax knob and are able to go as low as 10 yards on the parallax. I had to reorder new parallax knobs from MK to replace the smaller ones.

These scopes were mounted and lightly used, as one, I wanted to see if the change to new had fixed the problems I was having with the first Gen models(it did, as the parallax knobs are tighter and the groups were now very consistent) and two, I decided while awaiting for these to come back to slowly make the transition to 34mm scopes.

These scopes still have all the original packaging which includes the unused wrenches, instructions, zero stop bushing, an unused lens wipe, and unused scope covers.
See the specs here:

The scopes will each come with the throw levers and parallax dial knobs for $400 each.

I also have two sets of 30mm picatinny FX no limits that are used a good percent as I had these on the two I sent back. They have stainless fasteners on them but if you desire the factory black screws I can switch them out. I use anti seize on my fasteners so even though I’ll clean them the best I can(if you wish), there will be small traces. These I’ll let go for $55 each.

SOLD [SOLD] Nielsen Specialty Ammo NSA 0.22 (216.5 / 217 / 218) slugs lot

Hello AGN:

I had my brief fling with slugs - it was fun but I have no use for them in my suburban shooting environment so I'm selling the following lot of Nielsen Specialty Ammo 0.22 slugs:
  • 218 slugs:
    • 218 24.8g: 6x full boxes of 350 count
    • 218 24.8g: 1x partial box of 317 count
    • 218 23g: 223 count partial box
    • 218 27g: 48 count partial box
      • TOTAL COUNT of 218 slugs: 2,688 (or approx. 7.7 full boxes)
  • 217 slugs:
    • 217 30g: 1x full box of 250 count
    • 217 30g: 61 count partial box
    • 217 24.8g: 144 count partial box
    • 217 23g: 123 count partial box
      • TOTAL COUNT of 217 slugs: 578 (or approx. 2 full boxes)
  • 216.5 slugs:
    • 216.5 17.5g: 1x full box of 400 count
      • TOTAL COUNT of 216.5 slugs: 400 (1 full box)
  • MISC:
    • Unknown size/weight: 217 count
      • TOTAL COUNT of unknown size/weight slugs: 217
TOTAL COUNT of all slugs: 3,883 (or approx. 11-12 full boxes)

The 218's shot extremely well out of the Slug A liner on my FX Impact M3 (that's why I have the most of those); this would be a good chance for someone to try out various sizes and weights in slugs to see what works best for their setup. These are $21.99 per full box from NSA . . . so let's do $200 shipped

Would trade only for equivalent value of JSB 0.22 18.13g or 0.25 25.39g pellets...

I've got plenty of references here so please feel free to check them on the Member Feedback forum prior to purchasing. Paypal Friends & Family payment is prefered (otherwise, please add 3.5% to cover the fees). Local pickup in the SF Bay Area is available as well.

Thanks!

Card Stock to have your Targets printed on

Hello everyone,

I went to Kwik Kopy this morning and they gave me a bunch of various “paper” samples to take home and shoot to test and see which one produced the best / cleanest pellet hole. I set the samples up at 25-yards and shot 5-times at each with a .177 Diabolo pellet. The overall best turned out to be a “card stock” called #67 Vellum and the holes almost look like they were drilled, even the back side was really clean and round ( see photos ). I am having two hundred printed ( 8-1/2 x 11 size ) for one target that I will use for the East Texas Benchrest Challenge. If you are looking for some great stock to have your targets printed on, give this a try, hope this will be of some help.

Need help on "three letter organization"

I understand, and fully agree with the desire to keep the forum non-political. But I continue to see the above reference to agencies that are usually pretty obvious, and I don't understand that paranoia. Why should we hide the reference to a regulatory agency? I mean, what should we call the Senate, a "six letter legislative body"? As my wife (a five letter queen) might say, it's probably obvious, and I just don't get it.

Tuning  Tuning the RAW - Lubing Bottle Threads???

I've probably removed the bottle from my RAW HM1000X about 3 or 4 times in total. I'm about to adjust the tune and will probably need to remove and replace the bottle several times. Would it be a good idea to lube the threads with moly or Krytox grease? I want to avoid any galling when removing/installing the bottle under pressure.

Thanks!

Taipan Vet Help: leaking!

Hi all, just took my STOCK taipan out of the case after a few weeks of letting it sit just to find that it was sitting right around 90 or 100 bar (I always leave enough air in the cylinder, usually at leave 150 to 200 bar no little no more). I assume it's a regulator leak? lubricant being pushed out of the reg vent hole just behind that on the seam where the air cylinder is connected to the main block of the rifle. filled the gun to 210 bar and it slowly leaked back to below reg pressure over about an hours time. I've owned the gun for 18 months (bought brand new) and have never taken it apart or done any major modifications (other than the speed dialer addition). so I've read many of the other posts on this same topic however, they had replaced the regulator for the HUMA reg and had problems.

SO
is this just a regulator/ O ring issue? could the reg alignment have shifted somehow?
I haven't taken the gun apart yet as i haven't had time and wanted to get a potential solution for before doing so
thanks everyone!

Over Penetration

In case anybody isn't already aware, I am on the "two holes is better than one" side of favoring simple domed pellets for hunting. But that does lead to a logical concern with what the pellet does after penetrating the animal. Could it zipping off and damage something? To get some data I did some tests today. I do not think they prove much of anything but I found them interesting and maybe some of you will too.

I shot through first scraps of luan plywood and then scraps of 1/4 inch thick MDF and measured the velocity after the pellet exited. I will include a picture of my crude "test rig". Essentially this was at the muzzle. My cheap chinese chronograph does not have a remote display nor does it record (at least in a way I can use). So I wanted everything close so I could just look at the chrony and record the velocity. I used the luan to test things out because I only had a couple small scraps of 1/4 mdf. I find mdf to be less variable in results compared to plywood. I used 1/4 mdf because I consider it crudely approximates penetration of a squirrel. My pump up 177 will not shoot through 1/4 mdf and didn't make it past the shoulder bones of the one squirrel I shot with it. But my guns that shoot through 1/4 mdf kill squirrels nicely and sometimes go through a squirrel - but only on a broadside shot. I used my Prod that was shooting 14.66 grain copper plated FTTs at just over 700 fps this morning (it was cool, about 50 F) for about 16 fpe and my P35-177 shooting 10.66 grain H&N Baracudas at about 890 fps for almost 19 fpe. In wet paper the P35 penetrates a little further than the Prod and it retained a bit more velocity in this test too.

The Prod projectiles slowed to about 100 mps or 330 fps going through the MDF. Or about 3.5 fpe at exit. The P35 projectiles slowed to about 525 fps and 6-7 fpe at exit.

I do not worry much about over penetration with these guns. I suspected the pellets would have limited fpe left if they exited and this seems to be the case. I think this overstates the energy they would have typically because the projectiles often so not exit the squirrel. This is probably beyond worst case for the energy at exit. Probably. But could a 7 fpe pellet penetrate something? Yes, I think it could. I don't think it could kill even a small animal but it might break or injure something. But it doesn't have the same risk as it had at exit of the muzzle and distance will further decrease it's energy.

What about my other PCPs with 30-40 fpe? I'm out of MDF scraps at the moment but I think it's reasonable to think higher fpe airguns would also loose 10-15 fpe going through 1/4 MDF and at least that much going through a squirrel. My 30-40 fpe guns do normally shoot through. If they are still carrying 15-30 fpe then they are more likely to hurt something. I thus see a reasonable argument for potentially using expanding projectiles in guns like this to limit the projectile velocity at exit. What I actually do, however, is to avoid shots where there are things in the path of my shot that could be damaged. That habit got pretty ingrained in my decades shooting powder burners.

I thus see expanding projectiles as possibly having a role for higher powered PCPs but not for lower powered PCPs. I don't think we increase the chances of a clean kill with a 10-20 fpe gun by using an expanding projectiles because it's penetration is not going to be too much with a non-expanding one. But for 30+ fpe guns, I can see an argument for making a wider hole instead sending a projectile zinging off with potentially harmful energy left.
