Why do you pest? Or not?

No right or wrong on preference. I pest to obviously rid my yards of problem birds/ animals. Secondary benefit is the rebound of native song birds. Take away the pressure of imbalances created by man. Nature responds. So I do it for my personal quality of life. As well as for the song birds.

Probably a non-wanted question, but...

Question to those that shoot with their guns supported by other than the shooters hands.

Why is it that folks think it's SO...cool, wonderful, amazing, astonishing, etc., that a modern, quality pellet rifle (you name the caliber and gun brand) when said gun shoots dime sized groups at 50 or even 100 yards...when used with sand bags, bipods or tripods to steady the shooter and his/her gun ?

Yeah, I tried it once, to see what the difficulty is. I'm quickly coming up on 72 yrs old, and yeah...EVEN...I can shoot dime sized groups at 75 yards (that's the distance I shot) with my RTI Prophet Compact, in .22 .

So...WHAT's the attraction ? Nothing's been proven, very little skill involved..!?

Sure, I fully understand supporting the gun for sighting in the new sight/scope of your choice. It's much faster than sighting in, supported, than doing it free hand. I'll give you that. I also understand the help in finding possible problems that a gun may have recently exhibited.

I don't get it. Please counsel me on crutched shooting, so I can understand the possible misunderstood .

And...yeah, no...disrespect intended to anyone. Just don't understand this type of shooting.

Mike

Could a carbine be any more fun than this?

I am a fan of AR style airguns and have two FX Impacts that I absolutely love. However, last week I got a Crosman 1701P pistol and added an RAI adaptor with side fold and AR stock, a TKO 6.5" moderator, wood grips, and a Sig Romeo 5 red dot. The whole set up comes in at at a whopping 4 lbs. 8 oz. It feels like a feather compared to the decked out Impacts. I don't need to use my compressor or air tanks to fill it. It takes 22 total pumps to go from 2000 to 2900 psi. No problem. This rig has blown me away. It is pure fun and incredibly accurate due to the Lothar Walther barrel. The TKO moderator gives it a very tiny, almost inaudible, "pif" and almost seems like it's not actually shooting. Using JSB 8.44 gr. pellets, the shot string is excellent without any tuning. I was particularly surprised that the 8.44's averaged 454 fps.

I am having a blast with this thing, and I can't imagine having another carbine that's this much fun. My first PCP was an Airforce TalonP, and I have nothing but great things to say about it, but it is more of a "serious" carbine compared to the Crosman. The 1701P is just a great airgun at a great price and perfect for my wife, my daughters, and (mostly) me;) No wonder most people who have one love it.

NLA AEA Challenger Pro .22

I achieved my goal of 1 MOA groups with this gun and am seeking a new home for it as I move on to my next goal and another gun. This gun has been evaluated to find its 'best' slug and the NSA 27.5 grain in 0.2175" is the clear winner with .935" center to center grouping in still air at 100 yards when shot at 875 FPS as it is currently set. There is evidence that adding shims on the hammer spring will increase FPS and tighten groups even more.

It also shoots CPHP's at 850 FPS when the power wheel is turned to the 90° position at its lowest setting allowing for MOA groups at 50 yards in still air.

This gun comes ready to shoot, it also comes with a DonnyFL adapter and a Buck-Rail moderator and the custom fit bipod seen in the attached pictures as well as a FULL, unopened box of NSA 0.2175" NSA slug and 2 magazines. (The scope is not included, sorry.)

I am asking $599.99 plus actual shipping. I will take a personal check (Ill wait for it to clear first), postal MO (I'll wait for it to clear first) or PayPal, either F&F or regular but you pay all fees.

It has superficial smudges you see in the pictures but no defects or damage, it's been well taken care of.

Standards for reviewing?

I do read much of the feedback on the forums for many of the ideas I come up with for videos and just wanted to touch base with a few thoughts. Obviously with the many reviews put out, either videos or written I do see somewhat of a cookie cutter format going on. One thing I've noticed, me being included is no test are really shown for POI changes, to me as an avid hunter this is something I feel is important for a reviewer to show. Here are a few bullet points I figured I would brainstorm, I would enjoy some feedback.

  • Price (did you purchase or was it sent to you?)
  • Claimed performance, stats, features, build quality etc,
  • Sound test with and without moderator (low/high setting when applicable)
  • Trigger Pull
  • Accuracy test (full magazine groups), low powered piston guns, CO2 pistols etc, 15/25 yards depending. High powered PCP's 30fpe minimum 50 yards, over 30 fpe 75/100 yard minimum.
  • POI Test, shoot full magazine group, grab barrel and flex several times then shoot another group to check for POI change. (Obviously some airguns such as pistols may not benefit from this test)
  • Camera angles that cant be manipulated or heavily edited, yes this is a thing!
These are simply just a few ideas I'm throwing out that I hope some may be kind enough to add to, I do feel very strongly about the barrel test and think it's important to show.

Premier 14.3gn .22 cal pellets

Yesterday I was at the range with my Wildcat Sniper .22. I had a tin of Crosman Premier .22 14.3 grainers that I bought for a couple CO2 pistols I have. Being inexpensive pellets you really don’t expect much from them, I don’t anyway. I have a new opinion of them.
For my squirreling endeavors I sight my gun for 25 through 50 yards. So I set a target at 25, then 30, then 35 to try some out for groups.
My Wildcat is sighted in for 24.8 NSA slugs so I just left everything alone and shot 16 rounds at each yardage. As photo shows, the groups of course aren’t as tight as the NSA slugs I shoot but in a 25-35 yard distance without any tuning, it’s pretty good. If I were set up in the woods with a feeder within those ranges , the Premiers would be entirely adequate.
Being I just took them to try, not expecting much, I didn’t bring my go to pellets, the JSB 18.13’s to compare group size. Next time.
In any case, the nice thing is they’re about half the price of the JSB 18.13’s and the LGS carries them on the shelf.

What happened to all the mk1/mk2 impacts?

A few years ago, Ted, Matt, Southern Africa guys, Utah airgun, shooter1721, all the youtubers, they were all shooting impact mk1/mk2. Now when you looked at their channels all you see is the m3 and they never show or shoot their old impacts. So do people just toss away their mk1/mk2 or what happened to them? Are m3 more far superior than older gen. Is that why these guys aren't shooting older impact? Or is it just marketing for the m3.

20 yards to test a high end gun???????

I was reading on a gun test and the tester shot the 2,500.00 gun at 20 yards, The same people tested the Barra BB gun at 25 yards, Many years ago on another form I shot a 20 dollar Crosman 760 smooth bore and shot a 10 shot dime size group, GOOD GRIFF PEOPLE , 50 yards should be the starting point

Officially joined the Darkside - FX Maverick

I just picked up my first FX rifle, a Maverick compact in 30 cal. I wanted the sniper but found a good deal on a compact that already had a few mods I was going to buy anyway so it made sense to get this one. It already had a larger bottle on it and I bought a new 700mm barrel kit from someone on the forum. It had the standard superior liner and also a superior heavy, but I left the standard liner in for now to see how it would do. It was tuned for 44.75 JSB’s when I received it and my intensions were to make this a slug only shooter so I did a little adjusting on the Maverick. I set the first regulator to 175 bar and the second one to 148 bar. I left the hammer spring alone for now as I didn’t have much shooting time yesterday until it was dark out. I got my scope sighted in and the shot the group below at 40 yards with NSA 49.5 grain slugs. It was a 5 shot group and I‘m pretty happy with the results. My chronograph was showing all of the shots in the low 960’s so a little over 100 FPE. I managed to recover a slug and the expansion looked to be good. I need to stretch the rifle out further to see how it does but will have to go to the range to do that.
