FX  New First...Not a Good Thing, Stuck Slugs in Barrel!

In 25 years of airgunning I have never accidentally double loaded my chamber...until today. I was zeroing with 37gr Wildman slugs in my new FX King, my main pressure was higher than my regulator(125bar), so I thought I would be good to get a zero, then fill the tank and commence to sniping ground squirrels. After a couple of shots, the gun didn't fire a round and when I cocked the rifle, back pressure was released. It didn't occur to me that there was a slug stuck in the barrel. So I cocked it again, ignorant of the fact that I was was just stacking more slugs. I thought that my regulator had taken a dump on me. So I called Pyramid as that is where I bought the rifle. They sent a message to their repair/warranty department and said they would get back to me (but they still haven't). After calling them and a guy in Arvin, California who works with Utah Airguns(who it turns out is a fabulous guy and very helpful) who work, it dawned on me what my problem was. I thought I would be able to tap the slugs back out, but there was a slug at the tip of the barrel and others behind it, and they won't budge. A few hours later I got a call from the guy in Arvin and he told me the slugs would need to be mellted out of the sleeve and that it would not be a big deal. But I am not familiar enough with the workings of the gun, and I don't have a heat gun strong enough to melt lead, so I am going to have him take care of the problem. Turns out that the regulator was not set high enough for 37gr slugs and that that is why the first one got stuck and consequently others were shoved in right behind them. I had never heard of a single slug getting stuck in a barrel, so it didn't occur to me that that was the problem until it was too late, and such an issue is not mentioned in the owner's manual. In fact, in all of the years I have been into shooting I have never heard of that issue. So, this time I am a victim, next time, if it happens again, I will be a volunteer. Luckily, I had my trusty AA S410 as a back-up and it performed flawlessly(good for me, not so good for the squirrels). And btw, after re-testing my selection of pellets, the 14.3gr Crosman Premiers I have had for at least 20 years, perform every bit as well as the JSB's I have been using, and they fit in the magazine easier(I have to push the JSB's into the mag, but the Crosman's fall right in).

UPS International Shipping to the United States

My bad I missed the thread on Huma Air and UPS shipping. I just got an invoice from UPS for $80.27 for Government Charges plus an additional $23 for brokerage fees for my Huma order of Snowpeak M60 .177 & .22 magazines (metal magazines that also fit a Zelos) and a Air Stripper. I recently received my M60B from Wes in Canada and a Eagle Visions moderator from the UK. They were shipped via Fed Ex and no additional fees were charged. I would recommend to avoid using UPS International shipping if possible, for now. I am not making a political statement on Tariffs with this post. I'm just pointing out how my recent International shipping experiences can be costly when using a particular shipper.

Back in the saddle.

I'm back!

When I first joined, I was in a highly toxic career that almost ended up killing me...

The heart attack was real enough, but as my wife says: "It was a 'wake-up' call." Fortunately, no harm done or discovered, and nearly 3 years later, I've been VERY HAPPILY retired just over 2-1/2 years.

I've dusted off my 392 and made arrangements to send it to Mac1 for an all inclusive steroiding (minus the scope mount as I have the Baker mount).

After that, an inexpensive chronograph is on the shopping list.

I've been shooting Crow Magnum pellets with great success, and just yesterday received my order of RWS Super H Point pellets. My Benjamin REALLY LIKES the RWS pellets - 1/4" group @ 30 feet, matching the CM accuracy.

Here's a picture of the 5 shot group with the RWS's.

Something Exciting Is Coming DNT Optics

First look at the DNT Optics Zulus V2

The Zulus is packed with features, making it a top digital day/night choice for many enthusiasts in this hobby. It's lightweight, compact, built in laser rangefinder with ballistics, built in infrared light allowing you to see in the dark. Its SONY STARVIS 2 sensor and 1920x1080 micro-Oled display really takes it to another level for hunting and pesting.

"What comes next? DNT pushed every feature even further, raising the bar for performance. I'm excited to introduce you to the all-new Zulus V2.
20250623_231004.jpg

What's new and exciting? Let's start with the things you will see right off the bat. You will see a larger IR and battery tube like the ThermNight 335R/635R. This means you are getting a 21700 for extended day and night use. I was able to get 8hrs straight in day mode. The original zulus ran on a Flat top 18650. The IR can be removed (LRF Versions) the 850nm comes stock with the option to purchase the 940nm light as an add on.
20250623_232404.jpg
20250623_232104.jpg

With these added benefits you will see a slight increase in size and weight. 18oz on the original version and 22oz on the V2. *This was with batteries installed. The slight increase is well worth it for the improvements made.
20250623_231959.jpg
20250623_231937.jpg

Moving to the back you will see a larger ocular lens which will now give you 65mm of eye relief compared to the original 45mm. This means a more comfortable position. It will look very similar to the ThermNight 335R/635R especially when you see the new and improved throw zoom lever allowing you to find it in the dark and when you have gloves on.
20250623_233307.jpg

Next we go over to the side of the optic where you will see the small picatinny rail is now removed. What you will see now is the wifi device allowing much faster upload speeds. Remove the side cover to reveal a type c port with no micro SD slot. In its place is 32gb of built in storage.
20250623_231220.jpg

Moving up to the button layout. The layout may confuse the original zulus users as the power and record buttons have been flipped. With some time you will get used to the change. This change makes it less likely for the power button to be accidentally touched.
20250623_233643.jpg

Let's dive a little deeper to see what makes this thing tick. It features the Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, and is combined with ED glass lenses, has advanced AI image algorithms, and a world-class 60Hz 1920×1080 Micro-OLED display. When looking through the scope you will notice the round screen instead of the square screen. The upgraded screen reaches a peak brightness of 1800 nits, which is a 6× brightness increase over the original zulus.

With this new user interface there are a lot of things that make it easier to use and set up. The menu system is easier to navigate since the up and down keys scroll the menu (up and down), the right key enters the highlighted tab and also the accept button. Once done depending how far into the menu you are, a left press will get you back to the main shooting screen.

Entering the menu the first thing you will see is ‘Connections’. Here, press the right key to enter the 'Tab' and 'Wi-Fi' settings, where you'll see the option to turn it on or off. When pairing it will ask for the wifi password which is 12345678. Once a successful connection is made you will be able to send over your information and view/download your videos.
20250623_234315.jpg

The next option will be your ‘Zeroing’ tab. This step is where we perform the One Shot Zero. The one shot zero only works if your impact point is on paper. First, aim at the bullseye and take a shot. You’ll see the impact point. Then, aim at the bullseye again and freeze the image with a short press of the Power key
20250623_234331.jpg

Once frozen you can now move the X axis which is your horizontal movement, and the Y axis will be your vertical movement. The user moves the reticle to the point of impact. Once you’re satisfied with the movement to your impact point, scroll down and hit the right key to save and exit.
20250623_234344.jpg

With the new user interface, a favorite feature is the ability to change the reticle without entering the zeroing menu. The new 'Reticles' tab allows you to adjust the reticle quickly and easily on its own.
20250623_234211.jpg

As you go down the menu list, you'll find the 'Ballistic Calculator' tab. You can still enter ballistic data directly into the scope or through the DNT app. Another improved feature—and one of my personal favorites—is the ability to turn on 'Display Ballistics.' This allows you to see an on-screen confirmation in Dial-In mode, showing that your reticle has adjusted and by exactly how much.
20250623_234355.jpg
20250623_234402.jpg

Next is ‘LRF Settings’ and here you will have the option to set your LRF to continuous, Single Pulse, Timed 3s, Timed 5s, and Timed 10s. Here is where you can also change it from Yards to Meters. The Zulus V2 will also range as close as 4Y even on the 5x version. As many of you know, the Zulus line features a fixed LRF. On the original Zulus models, you may have noticed that you had to be on the base magnification to see the aim box when ranging. With the V2 Zulus, this has been improved—now, depending on your zero, the screen will automatically adjust to a lower base magnification while the LRF is active, ensuring the aim box is always visible. For example I set the Y axis to -170 zoomed into 20x and ranged at 4Y. The screen went down to 7.5X to allow the LRF aim box to be in view on the screen. Lock in ballistics or turn off the LRF with a long press to go back to max zoom.
20250623_234414.jpg

PIP Settings’ (picture in picture) now has a shortcut key with the new button layout meaning a long press of a right key can turn the PIP window on. When in the settings you can now choose where you set the PIP box. It can be set in the upper left, center, or upper right. Personally, I set mine to the upper right as it gives me the most vertical view when hunting and pesting.
20250623_234421.jpg

RAV’ (Recoil Activated Video) doesn't work on most pcp rifles which is a feature I prefer to have off. Now recording is even easier, if RAV is set on the off position a short tap of the down/record key will begin the recording (instead of the old version where it was a long press).
20250623_234427.jpg

Just like the original Zulus, the ‘Image Settings’ give you the option to choose between Natural Mode and Color Enhancement. I personally prefer Color Enhancement, as it makes the colors stand out more vividly
20250623_234431.jpg

Function Settings’ will give you access to the following:
20250623_234435.jpg

Auto Power Off- this can be set to off, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes but take note this timer doesn't start until you turn the optic into standby mode.

Loop Recording- this setting applies when recording manually, and it allows you to choose Off, or set recording intervals to 1, 3, or 5 minutes

Audio Recording- turns the microphone on and off for sound in your videos.

Gyroscope- this section includes the On/Off option and also allows you to recalibrate the gyroscope. Note: even if the gyroscope is set to 'Off,' this only disables the on-screen visual display—it's still active in the background and continues to send data to support your ballistic calculations.

IR Torch Type- should always be set to the IR-V setting.

Screen Brightness- this setting can be adjusted between levels 1–5. However, note that you can also quickly change the screen brightness with a short press of the Right/PIP key while on the main shooting screen.

Now, navigate to the last tab in the menu 'Sytem Settings'. Here, you can access the Date/Time settings, change the language, format the internal memory, restore the scope to factory settings, check available storage, and view the current version information.
20250623_234447.jpg

Stay tuned for updates on release date and price. Feel free to use brawler10 at checkout for 10% off any product on the website. Any questions just ask and I will do my best to help. Now some of it mounted up and test videos. Scope was mounted on a tripod to get footage no hunting/pesting here.

Taipan  Taipan Veteran..."Show Pony".

This Taipan Veteran .177 was originally member Kdog's...who sold it to a buddy of mine, I sold my buddy the stock that I got from member ChuckHunter in a trade back in early '20 I believe and I've had an eye on this rig for 5 years. My buddy is out of the airgun hobby now and we finally got the deal done. From the beginning I knew from the targets Kdog posted it was an accurate gun also it has the shinny smooth anodizing I prefere, I like to polish these smooth anodized Vets with polishing compound, as seen in the pix, the custom stock hasn't been in the public eye for about 5 years. With the stock and polishing job I think it turned out quite nice...Some eye candy for Veteran fans. Haven't shot it very much but what I've seen so far is promising. This is my second .177 vet in recient weeks, the .177s aren't as forgiving as the .22 Vets...feed them 18 gr JSBs at a normal speed...done. the one hole group was at 25yds off my knee with the JSB 10.34s at 875fps...the cardboard was at 47.5 yds. The two 10 shot groups were benched with JSB 13.43s, the two fliers between the groups were sighters. The group top right was 10.34s. That was my first serious shoot with this .177.

Garmin vs Athlon Chrony

I picked up the Garmin Xero and the Athlon Rangecraft to test this week. I took it to the range and here are my thoughts.

I shot a string of 69 and both picked them up with no misses.

The difference between the two units were much closer than the YouTube video comparions I've seen. The two units were only about 4 fps off from each other.

From the unit itself, the Garmin was slightly easier to use. I think having all the buttons at the top made it a little more intuitive for me rather than the up down controls on the side of the Athlon.

When comparing the data, both have roughly the same information.

I think the Athlon screen is brighter and the text is easier to read vs. the Garmin.

In this area, they are very similar.

When I connected the APP's, they have much bigger differences.

The Garmin is very focused. It pulls in your shot strings, displays it very clearly and large and that's about all it does.

IMG_6356.PNG

The Athlon can pull in weather data directly from the phone, wants you to add wind speed, direction and more information about your target to assist with target calculations.
IMG_6354.PNG

The Athlon APP wants (optional) to pull in a gun profile as well as a bullet profile. I find the text on the shot data smaller than I would like.

IMG_6358.PNG

When I looked at the app reviews, there were complaints about missing shot strings being transmitted from the unit to the app for the Athlon. I didn't confirm this as I only shot one session. The app has a rating of 2 stars.

For the Garmin, it has a rating of 3 stars. It doesn't do a whole lot. It's accurate and folks export the data to do any calculations. It doesn't pull weather or any other data about the session

HW/Weihrauch  Hw95s versus Hw98 - pretending to spend money

I have a HW50s (the misses), and a R9 (the mistress), both in .177. I have no need for another gun, but I have a wandering eye and from time to time like to contemplate another break barrel. I have been slowly getting the hang of shooting my Hw50s, and in the winter I plan to make a new stock (Vana 2's influence) for the HW95 that will fit me and my scope better for Hunter Field Target. As I was contemplating what I might do, I took a look at the HWs on the Airgun's of Arizona website. I see that they have dressed a HW95 in an adjustable stock now (the HW95s) and it's on sale for $727. They also have the HW98 in it's adjustable stock for $780.

It seems to me that this match up is made for a comparison. The HW98 is a pound heavier, which I remember reading somewhere is meant to help stability. That may be so, but wouldn't that pound be a bit of a liability for standing shots?

With both guns in similar stocks, and very similar actions, what would you identify in your choice as swinging the difference one way or another? I'm curious what other's think. Has anyone actually got both of these yet?

Usable Ballistic Program Results for Field Target

Good Morning,

I'm wondering if anyone is getting usable results from any Ballistics program to set up a FT scope wheel?

I've been using these programs on and off for years now. The only one I got usable results from was the old
Hawke Chair Gun Pro for Hawke scopes.

I'm now shooting a Sightron SIII scope. I've tried a couple of the Hawke programs as well as Strelok with poor results.
Chairgun Elite seems to be the only program that lists a reticle for the SIII. I have played with that program for many hours.
But can't get results close to my real holdovers. I have a very accurate scope height measurement as well as several measured BC inputs
at different speed/ranges. My SIII has the SIII FTIRMOA_H reticle. For example my real world holdover for 10 yards is about 4 MOA.
Chairgun Elite says its 7.1 MOA. I have to be doing something wrong but for the life of me can't figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Mark

Beeman raider and 3d printed moderator

I just bought a 3d printed moderator for my beeman raider and man did that make it quiet. The only thing is it made the POI about 8 or 9 inches lower and that’s at about 15 yards. after Retro I moved to 25 yards and it’s shooting way high. Before With factory moderator it would shout staright from 15 yards out to about 40 yards. This seems crazy to me. Does anyone know what’s going on? Did I maybe buy a cheap or poorly made moderator?

Airgun Technologies  Vixen 2, Carm, MKM precision

Got the Vixen 2 long 0.177, very nice.
I have no other PCP to compare, bought it as I liked the look and what people shared about it.

We have power restriction to 7.5J otherwise I would bought the 0.22
Gun right now on 5.6J as I ordered abroad and wanted no custom issue, shoot nice in 40 m will try longer soon. Once back to the range. Shot about 800 pallet since I have it, very accurate. Will increase to 7.5J and over if I have license. I am shooting cherry from the tree with no miss from about 30 m in the garden.

Quality look good, shroud have some move but that only the cover, you can screw them in fully, very small move.(no issue for me at all and I think all ok, just sharing as I saw video on it) I prefer the look off shroud, so I removed. The barrel it self only 420 mm without shroud that built as a tank and strip down looks proper.

Noise no issue, I want mostly shoot in the range off shroud at 5.6j gun has not much noise, might be on higher Jule. The bullet hitting hard that have sound, and you can recognize after a while anyway.
I would not like being in my garden while hearing the pelet hitting something in the other garden so I will go to the range mostly.

I bought single shot tray from Carm, I needed it for competition. Only have the gun 5 days, and already has range membership for a year and they took me competition, where I needed the tray too , hard to single load with fingers. Applied for fac license also, about 6 -8 months to get.

Gun bit nose heavy if you want to cock with left hand and hold on the grip with right, moving cocking leaver to the right, so when you hold left, you will have no balance issue. (mentioning only as I saw in one video), the gun handling super and very happy with it.

Really like it, very easy to shoot, very accurate and looks very nice to me. Love it and would buy again, has no any issue or dislike.

Any Members Shop with AirgunDirect.com? What Are Your Thoughts?

I’ve read the AirgunDirect.com ”About Us” writeup and it seems decent. However, after searching AGN I’ve only found one member saying anything about this shop. If you’ve done business with this shop and you are not affiliated with them, I’d like to hear about your experience(s). Rod, I’ve read what you have to say. Anyone else? What did you order? How was the customer service? Are orders fulfilled in a timely fashion? Are items packaged well for shipping and arrive undamaged?
