I have tried 4 different brand and weight slugs on 5 different speed levels and they all shoot 2" groups at 50m.
The zan's seems to group the best (close to 1")

13.4 KO @ 960fps
16gr HN @ 945fps
18gr Wildman @ 880fps
20gr zan @ 870fps

I have a brand new Superior heavy liner 500mm, dual TP, slug probe and huma tuning spring.
Reg 140bar

Shot 150 slugs through the new liner.

Surprised by Performance .30 vs. .25

I recently got a .30 ( a Paradigm, but that doesn't really matter) and depending what I'm shooting for projectiles, it does between 70-80 fpe. I have shot some woodchucks and porcupines with both slugs and pellets and I am a little bit underwhelmed by the performance of the .30 when compared against my kills with a 58fpe .25 shooting 34gr MkII JSB. I don't really know if I am being fair or not, because I really love the MKII pellet, but it really seems to do just as well (or better?) at putting down critters. At least in my experience so far. Do any of you who hunt with both think there isn't much of an actual advanage to .30? At least at the power level I am running, for woodchuck sized targets? I know that the sound made by the .30 hitting is more impressive, but the actual result not so much. My first woodchuck I shot with the .30 was with a FX Hybrid at 845fps at 30 yards and I took a body shot to see how the round would do and it wasn't drt. I have taken the same shot on the same size woodchuck at the same distance, with the .25, and had the pellet go through and loudly ricochet off the stone wall he was on. I also used the .30 56gr Zan pellets at 80fpe and I think those are better for my uses but I wonder about the penetration too and if the .25 actually does enough with less. I have shot porcupines with both and can't really tell if the blunt force trauma of the .30 is beating the .25's penetration or not. I was really expecting to be completely blown away by the .30 in every conceivable way and I really am not. It is a lot more fun to shoot at reactive targets for sure, but hunting not so much. I need to do a few more head shots with the Zan 56gr pellets at longer ranges and see how they do, just waiting for the opportunity. If I don't get impressed by the end of the summer, I am going to contact Tom to see if he would do a swap to .25. When I originally watched Donnie Reed's video on .25 vs. .30, I didn't think too much of it because it wasn't apples to apples. I still don't like how he did it but I am drawing the same conclusion, that the .25 is probably all that I need. I know that I can take longer shots with the .30, but with pellet flight time I really don't want to go over 125 yards too often. I am going to try some +100 yard shots though, and if they work out, then yeah, I will definitely keep the .30, only because I already have a .25 for the close stuff.

GO ARMY, trying out my birtday present.

Just had a birthday last month. Wife and kids got these for me. If you are considering a purchase, I highly recommend. Solid, tough and
make a nice sound when you wack them at 60 yards with a .22 PCP!

Green Bean Whistle Pig

I have been real good to the wildlife around here; got at least 6 acres of clover they can eat until their hearts are content. I leave them alone. But a couple of days ago, I noticed the green beans that are only 4 inches tall due to cold nights and no rain had some significant gaps. 1/5 of them were eaten to the ground. Today I happened to be outside on the deck and saw movement at the far end of the garden; I ran & got the .25 impact ain't shot it since squirrel season. Took a hastily shot at 65 yards and got this one.

New vermin in town, need suggestions

So I've noticed the armadillo have made it to my town, less than a couple miles from the house. Big ones too, these things must be well established already. Getting a game plan together on how to dispatch them when they finally reach the house.

I'm wondering what is a good minimum fpe for these things? I have a 38 fpe laser accurate 25 cal I'd most likely be using. Would thus be enough? Any way to bait them, or just shoot on the fly?

I do have a 25 that'll push an MK2 or Baracuda to same POI, cruising along at 52 fpe, if that's more of a DRT solution.

As for cleanup, I know they carry leprosy. Do you just wear some good gloves and toss them in a bag and into the trash?

Anyone Dealt with this Company

They have a scope I am interested in but it is $90 cheaper than anyone else. Has anyone bought from them?
Website looks legit, Facebook page looks legit. Just doing my due diligence.

Best Multi-pump

Back in the day I had a Crossman 1400, that got stolen some 20 years ago. I went and bought a Crossman Optimus, break barrel, and I just hate the recoil. Looking to get back into a pump up gun. Anyone point me to a good one. Not going to spend the money on a PCP, don't want CO2. I've read some poor reviews on the Dragonfly MK2's reliability. I was liking the Beaman 392, but it's not easy to find, and shows discontinued on Crossman website. Want to stay in a 177 for speed.
Thanks

Where is the best place to buy a new fx airgun?

Which retailer is the best to order a new fx airgun through?

Does anyone have coupons that work on an fx on any sites? Who has the best customer service and warranty departments? Do any retailers not charge tax? Who has the best shipping options, i'd prefer not fedex and utahairguns wants $43 extra for insurance?

I think i have it narrowed down to what i wan't (which i plan to post a thread about later) but im not sure who is the best in the industry to deal with as my only pcp i bought directly from academy sports.

Pre match prep and shooting with my boys

Me and my two sons have a field target match this weekend so I just did a quick speed verification over the chrono.

9year old Colben will be shooting the .20 Veteran Short, using 13.73gr JSBs. Five shots came in at: 819, 817, 819, 815, 818. That makes his gun marginally legal. By my interpretation, 809fps would be just under 20fpe, 2% variance would get us up to 825fps. So his gun needs the 2% variance. I don't like being that close, and it was down around 805 last time I checked it. After the match I'll check again and see where it's at.

5 year old Cabe will be using a .22 Veteran Standard, with the JSB RS 13.43gr pellets. 5 over the chrono yielded: 812, 809, 811, 812, 807. All of those are legal, without needing the 2% variance.

And I'll be using the Ghost .20, also with the 13.73gr JSB. As explained elsewhere, Im compromising with a higher than necessary reg pressure so I can spin the power wheel and shoot the .20 Heavy s for long range fun, and as a result, the first two cold shots with the 13.73s are low fps. After I got those out of the way, I was 799, 804, 807, 804, 806. Those are all also field target legal.

This is Colben's third year but this match will be Cabes first one. On Saturday we were plinking/practicing and they were both popping paintballs at 40 yards with ease. I found some 3/8" water beads in the grass (that they'd been playing with a day or two earlier) and set them at 40 yards. They exploded them too. Cabe got his first water bead on the second shot, Colben on his fourth shot. After I'd been going back and forth setting the paintballs up for them to shoot I was hoping the water beads would be a tougher target and keep them occupied for longer, but nope.

Colben and I will be Hunter class and Cabe Freestyle (b/c of the creative use of that camp chair as his gun rest).

It's been fun practicing with both of them the last few weeks.

Break Barrel For A Chuck?

So I am a pcp guy and my uncle reached out wanting something to take out some woodchucks in his back. Sadly he moved to Tennessee otherwise I would lend him something. He's 58 but a big guy and a navy vet so a break barrel should be okay. The issue is he doesn't want to spend a lot and I am looking for some input. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

GX CS4 - is it too Good to be True?

I hate writing this review as I was excited after getting 3 hours on my CS4 and thinking to myself, "I'm impressed by this little compressor"... I topped off my SCBA tank this weekend and everything seemed fine aside from moisture spraying out when bleeding from my JB Alpha filter (I'm glad I chose to run it in-line). I bled water from both the CS4 unit as well as the Alpha Filter.

Even with the puddle that was left under the filter when I was done, I still felt this setup was worth it. I was planning on doing a review this evening to express my satisfaction with my CS4 and decided to take some pictures to post. When I moved it I had a puddle of coolant under the compressor... Well darn...

I pull the cover off to inspect it and the bottom of the case had coolant pooled in it. I soaked up some of the mess and see what appears to be a leak from the top of the little coolant pump:

20230607_205939.jpg

I tightened the hose clamp to see if that fixes it and I will check in the morning. There was some corrosion around the clamp when I first got it and chalked it up to being water that dripped down from the water reservoir from when they tested it at the factory. I have sent a message via the GX chat portal on their website and I am also about to send them an email to get some assistance with this. I will keep everyone posted on their response.
