Longest flattest trajectory

This is perhaps totally Field Target methodology related "or not". I really enjoy setting up different air rifles and diligently creating dope charts based on actual shots from a bench on a clear day - I always like to compare my trajectories with StrelokPro. To date the flattest trajectory I’ve found in the .177 cal is with JSB 10.34’s moving at 880 fps. I’m shooting flat in 3 different guns from 21 yards to 42 yards. The 4th gun, a TM1000 is shooting jsb13.4 heavies for comparison here. One gun, my Steyr HFT, is basically flat from 25 yards to 40 yards but had a very minimal drop out to 55 yards.
Q? What’s your longest flattest “verified” shooting gun/pellet combo? Please include the weight and brand of pellet and the speed you’re pushing it at.

@RScott I recently adjusted my scope - reduced the height by removing 1/2" pic risers and the following is the result for the Daystate Revere... the pic above left to see before and after:

HW100 moderator - **TIGHT** - how to get it off?

Hi - I have one of these --> https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/precharged-pcp/weihrauch-hw100-laminate-carbine-with-moderator/

I'd like to clean the barrel - it's pretty tight in the space where you load it so best option is to pull the barrel off of it. That's not a big deal - I figured out how to do that. For those of you who might own one of these or something similar - whats the deal with getting the moderator off?? That thing is TIGHT. I haven't been able to get it off (yet). Do I need to vice the barrel and clamp it in right tight ( use a pr. of wood blocks or something ) and then . . . . I don't know - gonna have to come up with a means of gripping that moderator REALLY firmly to see if can unscrew it.

I was able to get some patches pulled through it but I had to go bass-ackwards using a straw feeding that down through the mod and then poking ( and poking, and poking, and poking ) around until I finally found the end of the barrel. ( using a patch worm ) This was far more "difficult" and clunky than it should have been compared to my other guns - taipans and rti's . . . . plus I'd just assume feed patches from the action end. ( <-- I tried that but for the life of me could not get the patchworm weedwacker string and the end of the straw to fins one another . . . )

I'm all ears guys. ;-)

Nostalgia or practicality?

Hi, I bought this Beeman R1 about 25 years ago from a pawn shop for $200, it’s a left hand stock Laser rifle. A while later I discovered that there was a book written on the R1 so I bought the book and spoke to Tom Gaylord who explained to me that the Laser model is somewhat special.
This was my first real airgun and I was shooting it daily and though if I had a right handed stock it would probably shoot it even better.
So I searched the Yellow classified and found the stock that’s on the gun now. I paid the same amount for the stock that I did for the rifle and the seller(real nice guy) told me it’s a very sought out stock and that after I committed to buy it he told me there was a bunch of people wanting to buy it behind me.
I like the stock it feels great but lately I’ve become more nostalgic and thought perhaps I should swap stock and keep it original.
I don’t compete I just shoot across my Florida room into my bedroom exactly 14 yards.
What would you do?

Panthera 600mm; 177 slugs 🔥

I’ve been feeling bad after chickening out of buying the Panthera in 177 and getting the 22 instead. So, I convinced my brotherIL to get one! My initial concern was that it wouldn’t shoot the heavier slugs and I didn’t want to be stuck with something that is 5feet long and can only shoot 13 grainers. Anyway, my BIL is relatively new to PCPs and loves my 22. He wants to be able to shoot at my 110y home range but also use the Panthera for pesting in his own suburban yard, mandating lower power and projectiles contained by his fencing. So the goal for him is to shoot 13g Zans at home and 16g at my range, if possible.

The mystery here lies in the capability of the FX liner in the Panthera. In the US, all 177 FX liners are 1:18 twist and of the standard, rather than heavy/slug variety. Heavy liners can be purchased in Europe but they also seem to be 1:18. With those “heavy liners” some Danish shooters have had good success with 16g slugs but don’t seem to use anything larger. The Panthera is advertised as having heavy liners in all cals. Are these the 1:18 heavy liners or something different? My enquiries to FX have yielded nothing clear, so the only option was to “suck it and see”

The P177, as I’ll call it, was set initially with a 110bar tune shooting 13g pellets at 1000fps. Correspondingly, it shot 13g Zans at around 990.

After cleaning the barrel, the first change involved increasing the reg to 122bar and HST to 2.45 on the micro wheel, which allowed the Zan 16 grain to reach 985 on the knee. Reducing the macro wheel by four turns, the 13 grainers shot at the same speed. Both projectiles were stacking at 50y, which means that my BIL was set for his needs.

However, after leading in with 100 or so shots, we were keen to try the Zan 20 grainers! The resulting tune was 140bar and 2.9 on the HST for 990fps (44fpe). They were stacking again at 50y, so we shot a quick group of 5 out to 100y, before some wind came in ahead of a microburst. Suffice to say that this is looking good! I won’t be able to do anything more today but I’m keen to push this tune out to 150bar and try to get a subsonic 50fpe! I also have some 23g inbound and if anyone wants to send me anything else that’s larger than 20grain, I’d be happy to try em out!

Caveat is that we’re at 5000ft elevation, so a 1:18 will behave as a 1:15-16. YMMV. The 20 grain Zan expand to .30 size in our duct seal putty, so they would certainly be effective on even the larger pests!

Scott SCBA tank valve.... SIEZED!

I was given this tank yesterday and all attempts at moving the valve in either the counterclockwise or clockwise directions result in ...NO JOY!

My attempts have been both with the knob pushed in until the spring was fully compressed, and all tension released.

It may be time to attempt removing the valve from the tank. Or alternatively, to admit its smarter than me and ask for help.

Any Help out there?

Makes you wonder

Yeah, makes one wonder if people really ever...actually...read the Classified section correctly. I don't think that they do. This same scenario can be seen in other sections also. Seems many ONLY read exactly...what applies to them, at that moment.

I see this all the time -

For sale, xxx rifle, in .22, excellent condition. Etc., etc.

Then one or two (maybe more) lines down, WITH...a later date (!) -
Want to buy, xxx rifle, in .22, must be in good condition, etc., etc.

Did these two EVER, actually get together ? By looking in a coupla days, for the same two ads, they didn't...seem to make contact, both ads are still open !!

Mike

Anybody got a personal range?

Now, let it be said, I lost access to my regular range about 4 months ago. Not worth it to the new owners. I have had a few generous offers by fellow members on the forum, but logistics prove fatal as I’m not available weekends. They are normal working folks during the week. What I need is probably a personal backyard range somebody has on their property for myself and another fellow air gun researcher. We would have no issue paying for the privilege to help such host cutting their hobby costs. Limits are within 2 hours of Nassau county . Tuesday or Wednesday, Preferably not Connecticut, as I’m unaware of that state’s restrictions, we would be happy to share our information and trials, and I personally would share accessibility to my guns for the host to try.

PCP Rifle  NLA Pre Airforce RAW .25 LRT

Looking for an Impact M3 but may be open to other suggestions. Let me know what you have. May be willing to add or accept cash depending on trade equity.

It holds air and shoots beautifully. 25.4 Air Arms or 25.39 JSB's at 900 plus with excellent results. I have 2 of these and I will only be keeping my dedicated Lefty. Scope, mounts, and bipod not included.
Happy to facetime for a complete virtual inspection.

Airgun moderators and the 3 letter organization

Reading up on Donnyfl's issues and other airgunners comments regarding moderators got me wondering what the Alphabet org considers a silencer.

https://www.Alphabet org.gov/firear...ers are NFA weapons, and pay the required tax.

Below is the text as it reads on their web page:

"Are paintball and airgun sound suppressers considered NFA weapons?

The terms “firearm silencer” and “firearm muffler” mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.

Numerous paintball and airgun silencers tested by Alphabet org’s Firearms Technology Branch have been determined to be firearm silencers by nature of their design and function. Because silencers are NFA weapons, an individual wishing to manufacture or transfer such a silencer must receive prior approval from Alphabet org and pay the required tax.
[26 U.S.C. 5845; 27 CFR 479.11]

Last Reviewed April 20, 2020"

The aforementioned begs the question what is the legal definition of a firearm in the United States Government Code and why is it that a silencer is considered a weapon, when if anything, it saves the average person from years of damage to their ears caused by the harmful effects of the noise generated by firearms.

USC 921(a)(3)

"(3) The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm."

Lets agree to not make this political and strictly discuss facts, opinions, and relevant case law as it pertains to our hobby.

Enjoy!

PCP Rifle  WTS Kalibrgun Cricket .25 Bullpup w/Magazine stock

Recently serviced, full reseal and reg rebuild a few months ago.

Not leaking, great power and super accurate. Gun has trigger work done to it as well, very light and consistent 1st stage and second.

Shooting 25.4gr kings at 925-930.

This was my first high end air rifle, and have been reluctant to sell due to its reliability, accuracy and the simple fact it is a joy to shoot.

It has been in the field with me for countless days, taken Fox, Squirrels, opossums and racoons as well as long range shots on pest birds. There are bumps, but the gun is in great condition.

$875 + shipping w/ four factory Aluminum magazines.
