PA refurbished TX200HC Hunter Carbine: Okay or what? Lets roll the dice again...

Rolling the dice again. Why? I don't have a good answer other than trying to get a so said decent rifle at somewhat of a discount and myth of being a top springer from AA. Giving PA refurbished a second chance on the TX200, this time the hunter carbine. Will give pictures of the unboxing for better or for worse. TX200 HC RH .22 caliber walnut. Due to arrive Wednesday 17, 2023 from PA. Will take everyone on the same trip on what I see from PA and AA per refurbished TX200HC. Its here, few pics from lunch break. Rest after the work day. Do hear box movement inside, so probably not much packing (which has been my typical experience with PA). After a hard day at the office, just may have been rewarded. Please scroll down to later posts and see the Unboxing, is it good or bad?

PCP Rifle  SOLD Unicorn.. Kalibrgun Colibri / Hummingbird

I may regret this. A very limited number of Colibri are in the states and fewer shows up in the classified. I have own this bird since 2018. The stock was refinished with multiple coats of polyurethane to a glass finish with a hummingbird logo. Comes with 3 magazines, air tube Picatinny bipod mount and fill probe. I have added a 1/2 unf adapter to the end of the shroud so it will accept a moderator if needed. Original shroud end cap is included. Both shroud and air tube has been wrapped with high quality automotive carbon fiber vinyl wrap. All o-rings was replaced back in October 2020 when it has a regulator leak. Extra set of o-ring will be included if you ever need to replace them. There is a scratch on the body of the gun shown on one of the photo I have repaired it with with Birchwood Casey aluminum black touch up pen. It’s not visible when the stock in mounted. The Colibri is tuned to shoot 15.89gr at around 890fps.
It is very accurate. I have trim tree branch at 84 yards with it. This is my goto pcp for the backyard tree rats.

Red Wolf - I forget how good it is

With the number of really great air rifles I am so fortunate to own, I don’t grab for the Red Wolf very often.

It has been several weeks, if not months since I last shot it. I pulled it out of the vault today. The battery was still sufficient in power, I loaded the 11 shot magazine and shot a sub 1” group at 85 yards in a nice breeze. It is soooo smooth.

The poi seems to be always constant regardless of weather conditions, something I can’t say about several of my rifles.

It never lets me down. I should shoot it more often. I forget how great it is.

Great deal on FX Panthera Hunter Compact coming to me.

I just ordered from The Pellet Shop and got 5 tins/bags of ammo for FREE. Plus free shipping. This deal is a Mother's Day special that ends today (Sunday). Just select your ammo it will show as no cost when you add to order. Talon tunes has them in stock if you want to pay more . Ya, me too. A new model that is selling fast and The Pellet Shop is promoting it with freebies including the ammo, free shipping and a T-shirt. WTF, I love ❤️ it. I'll be back after I take it for a test drive. 22cal. Bill and Addi.

Some Common Questions...

Here are a few common questions with the REAL question or motive translated... to anyone who has asked any of these and feel the need to get your panties in a bunch, don't. This is all in fun.
If any of you have any other common questions with the real translations, please feel free.

What do you all think about the new Sooper Dooper Springer that will do 1000fps? I want to use it for everything from chipmunks to coyotes. It's on sale now at XMart for $129.

I've seen Joe Blow on YouTube kill a hog with a spring piston gun in .177 and now I think I can do the same. All of you who spend big money on PCP's are just dumb when the same thing can be done with a big box springer. Besides... they shoot just as hard as a .22 rimfire. I mean 1000fps! I will likely never get close enough to a coyote anyway and instead will take an ill advised shot at 65 yards and might get close enough to scare it. Never mind the fact that shooting a springer...ANY springer requires a level of finesse. I'm a manly man and I can hold it so tight that there is no way it will move and I'll be able to shoot it just fine. If I need more precision on it, I'll just add my old rimfire scope and mounts to it.

I'm new to airguns and have been looking at the [insert whatever high end PCP here]. What do you all think?

This one is tricky.. there are typically one of two translations here.

1. I have more money than I know what to do with and now have a new hobby. I can buy the best gun, scope and all available accessories and Ill be able to brag to my buddies at the country club. I don't really care what 'you all think', I just want to show everyone that I'm buying the best of the best right out the gate. When I tire of looking at it, it will sit for a few years with all the rest of the toys that caught my eye at one point or another.

2. I've learned my lesson on buying cheap stuff and have budgeted for something that I believe will fit my purpose. I've taken into account all accessories. I've researched all that I know to research and I'm relying on the wisdom of the group here to ensure I haven't missed anything.

Why do I need to make 10 posts to sell my airgun?

I got a bug in my arse and went to Walmart and got a 1200fps brake barrel because I thought I would be able to kill things at 100 yards with it. I soon tired of it and I don't really want to consort with any of you undesirables on this forum, I just want to unload this gun and recover 112% of what I paid for it and 212% of it's actual value.

HW97 or TX200?

I full well know that this get a lot of chatter and I want to rile folks up. There will be about a 50/50 split and it will be fun to watch folks go at it. There's nothing good on TV tonight anyway.

What airgun would you choose for a SHTF situation?

I watch too much anime and when I was a child (ok, ok... and even as an adult) I read the books that had the 'if you want to do this, turn to page 23, if you do that, turn to page 45'. I secretly know the answer because Bear Grylls calls me for expertise on all things survival. I once even killed a spider in my living room. I don't really care about the answers that people give, I just want someone...anyone... to suggest the gun that I would select so I can tag on and virtual high five and chest bump with them.

Suggested pcp rifle + compressor for a noob

Hey all, Ive had break barrel air rifles for many years, and am looking to try out a budget pcp rifle and compressor thats less than $1k total. would like to use it for mostly target shooting and occasionally small pests such as rodents

I am considering the air venturi avenger .25 cal (~$350) for the better muzzle energy compared to similar .177/.22 models. apparently it gets 800fps and 40-50ftlb and looks like it has decent reviews too. has anyone owned one of these and can tell me how they are?

I am not sure what air compressor to buy, have never used one before. some others in the forum mentioned yong heng compressors but there are dozens of models from that company. is something like the yong heng YH-QB12-S good for $259? says it is 4500psi capable, 350w power and 3000r/min, those sound like decent specs?

Simpler is better

Hi y’al,
So I bough this Beeman shoulder stock for the Beeman P1/HW45 decades ago and tried everything to get it to enhance the accuracy of the P1.
I placed red dots and pistol scopes and I’m done. Today I took the stock and scope off and was happy with how it shot with open sights.
Scope will go back to one of my contender barrels and that stock will go on Ebay.

More scrutiny towards the airgun industry??

Some of you that are airgunners are also firearm enthusiasts. Garand Thumb (Military gun guy) posted a video today about the FX Panthera. Read some of the comments.
My guess is that more scrutiny is coming to the airgun community. And with scrutiny comes more "regulation"
Have the industry leaders FX/Daystate, etc pushed the envelope too far??

New acquisition.

I notice that I did not had a .22 air rifle classic style with a bottle. I have a Uragan in 22. That was my only .22 that gives a lot of shots per fill.

Then I started thinking if I would buy a classic style .22 with a bottle and 45 fpe, which would be my alternatives.

Some weeks passed and then I found in the used airguns section of AoA a Wolverine HP walnut stock (apparently a beautiful one) in .22 with a substantial reduction in price in regard of a new one.

I made the call, requested a change of bottle to go to 580cc and now it is on the way to it's new home.

I am expecting the wolverine HP to give 78-80 shots per fill with the 580cc bottle.

If working properly, it should be very accurate, it should have an excellent trigger.

The already known expected disadvantage is going to be the total length....

I will report how it performs once I receive it.

Starlings felt the sting

Picked up this beauty of a rifle a couple months ago from a forum member. It was a standard UK spec 12 fpe gun, but I stripped and cleaned it up, removed the valve restrictor, and adjusted the spring.

This rifle on full tilt will give me 55 fpe with the 25.39 MRDs for about 14 shots. Way too hot, so I dialed her back to 30 shots in her sweet spot at 30 fpe.

I decided to give my Krals a break, and brought out the Scorpion after the fresh tune and sight in. The accuracy I read about with BSAs was no lie. This gun, with non sorted pellets, will stack at 35+ yards.

I was hoping to give the starlings some hell this morning. I loaded my mags, topped off the air, amd got out at 6am. Just backyard blasting, short trip!

The yellow beaks have become extremely hard to bag, they watch me very closely, any movement and they're gone. I had the advantage of heavy fog this morning, so they came in a bit closer than usual.

These 2 slipped up and caught a jsb 18.13 at 890fps. Both about 20 yard shots.

20230514_072107.jpg

I actually started off the morning with a male HOSP, out at 40 yards, the pop was amazing! I couldn't recover him from the brush. Then came across two grey squirrels shagging in the trees across the creek about 60 yards. I sent one into the male's chest WHILE he was bumping and grinding the misses! I didn't venture to retrieve that one with the thicket and creek.

I had a good laugh about that shot though!

I'm absolutely blown away with the accuracy and balance of this rifle. Shoots better off hand than most guns I've tried or owned. Thanks for reading and wish me luck on the pesting!

HW50s

New HW50s 177 cal. My thoughts. After receiving it, I cleaned it, checked screws. ok. Mount scope. Using standard 2 piece mounts . Start shooting. , at 20 yards shot 18 inches low🤨. Shim scope several time quit at 25 Thousandths . So back to the basement. Install a droop compensator mount. It has 29 thousandths built in. Ended up adding. 10 thousandth to that . Now scope isn’t being over adjusted . Now the gun looks great. Wood perfect ,blueing is nice. Fit is good. The trigger perfect. , how does it shoot. It will stack 7.9 crosman at 20 yards. Can hit spinners at 50 yards . Heck my Diana 34 doesn’t have that much droop. My WH95. Has some droop still after fixing the cocking arm issue , My Hatsan doesn’t have that much. I’m not sure where I’m going with is thread other than to vent . And if someone new to springers would think they were doing right buy get this . guns like this give spring guns a black eye. Thanks for letting me vent . This will be my last HW. picture has the 2 piece mount not the droop mount . Calling AOA on Monday !!

Hunting Turkeys with Element Optics and FX Crown IV8888 Limited Edition MKII Arrow Gun!

Watch this:

My FX Crown MKII IV8888 Limited Edition Arrow Gun and Element Optics Helix HD scope performed flawlessly, but you gotta watch this video to believe what happens at the end. To fully appreciate the level of frustration and the final outcome over 2500 miles of this east coast hunting trip grinding away in the hunting woods, you need to watch the entire video. The highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

The East Coast Element Optics competition and hunting tour will go down as one of the most EPIC memories I will ever have as a sportsman. My optics and FX Airguns performed flawlessly, but the curse of the illusive mountain gobbler followed me back to snowy Northern Michigan. In every hunter's life, there is one hunting trip that will stand out in their memory as the one that you had to be there to believe. For me, this was that hunt and I fortunately (or unfortunately) captured the entire fiasco on video. This was the Turkey season of 2023 and it was marked with some really good moments that I will always remember and some REALLY and I mean REALLY hard hunting lessons that need to be learned.

The journey started off on a really high of highs as I competed in the Northeast Airgun Classic winning my Pro Class relay in the 100 yard benchrest event and making the finals where I came out with a top 10 finish. But the second I put on my camo and headed to the woods, the series of events that unfolded will have to be watched to believed. Join me on this journey as I highlight some really awesome gear from Element Optics and demonstrate the versatility of the Element Helix HD hunting scope. After this journey, I can say with full confidence that scope is the most versatile hunting optic on the market. I can also say with full confidence that as a Turkey hunter, I am cursed. Period. #seeitsendit #fxairguns #airgunhunting

Ideal weight .25 slug for a 1:14 Tj barrel

Im aware there is never a definitive answer to these type questions but in theory based on the TJ barrel that came on my raptor mini, what should be the optimal weight range for a 1:14 twist in .25?
Would like to try and find a slug it likes so I’m Just looking for a good starting point to start testing at really..

Or perhaps if anyone else has had luck with a particular slug in a 25 cal raptor?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
TIA

Going to extremes with balanced valves

The following was performed on a heavily modified 25 cal marauder.

I got around to testing my new balanced valve in my marauder, it is a drop in that replaces the end cap, however this version uses a 2mm valve stem so requires the stem bore be sleeved down. The poppet is made from peek (very fun to get sealed with only 60 lbs of force holding it shut) with a balance ratio of around 60% (60% reduction). The valve stem 2mm bar stock that I reduced to ~1.3mm within the area of the throat, as I always do, this is because I run a .234" throat that support .225" porting ahead of it, which works well with the 1.3mm stem. I have yet to have a stem fail in the 6 years I've used them. Enlarging the throat would require more hammer strike and my build has always been oriented around reducing this as much as possible...so here I am, taking the extreme. DYOR and do so at your own peril!

With the pictured hand made poppet/balance valve I was able to reduce my hammer weight to 14.8 grams, while using only a 7 lb/in hammer spring to reach my valves plateau of ~60 FPE when set at 2000 psi (pretty typical power for a marauder at this setting). The prior valve, same setup but with a 3.175mm valve stem required 18 grams of hammer and 9 lbs of spring to achieve the same power.

The same 14.8 gram hammer with 3 lb/in spring with minimal preload sends 8 grain pellets in .177 out flying at 850, iirc the other 3.175 stemmed valve could only do about 650-700 fps with this spring fully preloaded.

The valves chamber height is adjustable (adding volume allows the valve to open easier, taking more time to fill the chamber, reducing volume does the opposite), but I try to keep my vent and chamber volume harmony to a point where I can tune within my desired range, down to 12 ft/lbs in .177, up to 60~ fpe in .25 cal.

One may ask, why do you still bother with the old marauder, to which I reply, marauder may be old and dumb, however I am young and dumb, and the marauder is a good gun to learn on, and boy have I learned! Prior to running the balanced valve, this gun operated just fine with a 52 gram hammer and the same 7# spring, but I like tinkering, and the result is a gun that operates with very little vibration in the frame with the lowered hammer energy requirement

52 gram hammer with 7 lb spring lock time = 7-8ms
14.8 gram hammer with 7lb spring lock time = 4.3ms

The reduced lock time and vibration in the frame which resonates thru the gun prior to the pellet leaving the barrel definitely doesn't bother me! I may even reduce the weight more...because I can't leave things well enough alone, ever. Thanks for reading.

Poppet OD: .3"
Balance chamber: .234"
Vent diameter: .038"

Ghost 177@25 review

Well i guess it’s time for me to post a short review ( im not much of a writer) of my 2 ghosts as I’ve had them for about a month and have shot my first ft match with the 177 hp. The 177 shoots 13.4 jsb mrd’s superbly thru its poly barrel, i actually like the way it handles especially standing better than my red wolf. The trigger leaves a bit to be desired as franklink noted in his review the only other thing i wish was different is with the hp the hammer adjustment is useless and you need to adjust velocity with careful adjustment of the reg. 81 bar and min on hammer is bringing 810-815 fps and as i said it shoots very tiny groups with weighed pellets.
Now for the 25 - what a machine! 50 yd groups 1/2” and tighter off styx! 100 yd groups with weighed pellets and slight breeze again off styx run 1 1/2”- 2” so if its calm and your locked in a rest probably extremely good. Adjustability of hammer spring is ok but its not a m3 but again i like the reg adjustment much better than the m3 as it can be adjusted to a fine degree easily without tools. Are these guns perfect? No but they are pretty damn good and you won’t drive yourself crazy trying to tune them they are very easy to get good shot count and really good accuracy!
Now i bought both guns myself the 25 from atlas airguns and ordered the 177 hp from aoa which took a bit over 3 months to get. Im not paid by anyone for this but after having the guns for about a month im impressed and happy. Oh finished tied for 2 nd in the ft match on a pretty breeze day and after making a few mistakes I don’t think ill be making again!
