HW Barrel For My RTI Compact

Today I got to work on my HW 22cal barrel for my RTI compact (P1. It was late when I got home and was in a rush to get my evening farm chores done but still managed to see how the HW Barrel was going to work out.. my compact was set up to shoot 13gr 177 slugs (510mm LW barrel) at 960fps... Without touching a thing other than installing the HW barrel (also 510mm) it pushed JSB 18gr 994fps!! I wasn't quite expecting that kind of jump... A quick re-zero on the scope and started tweaking in the tune (I use a fixed reg set to 150b) it shot Very well at 994 but I kept backing the hammer spring down... 950 shot a tad better.. rifle was sounding better.. backing it down to 900... The accuracy is right there and the rifle sounds even better... When I got to 820... The accuracy is still spot on but the rifle sounds perfect... Super quiet... Shot cycle is great... Smoooooth!! I upped it to 850ish and called it!... I believe I'm going to shoot it set there for awhile... I do have intentions to see how it likes slugs later..as this is one of my favorite hunting rigs and would prefer it to shoot slugs but if it doesn't.. it doesn't.... Not a problem... Pellets it will be!!

Falcon and Brocock

FN8 .22
FN12 .22
BRK Grand Prix .177
Atomic XR .25
Don't get a lot of shots per fill. But I sure do like shooting them.
The Atomic is supposed to be a pistol. But it sure makes a great Carbine!
Same with the FN8. A great pistol. Even better as a Carbine with the Light hunter stock. Back in the day this was called a "Rat-in-ater".
And the FN12 with the lighthunter skeleton stock back in the day was the "tom-in-ater" as in Tom turkey.

Seneca Dragon Fly 22

Hi Everyone;

I read the "Godfather's" 16 posts about the Seneca Dragon Fly over at PA a couple of days ago and decided to see if it was all he claimed it to be. You can find the last post in that thread here: Tom Gaylord's Review of The Seneca Dragon Fly Just keep that one open in your browser and peruse as all links to other posts in the thread are only in that last post. It is well worth your time if you have not read it and you are at all interested in the rifle.

His work there was spot on as far as I have been able to determine. My gun came in this afternoon and (Having read Tom's work) decided to test the velocity at various stroke counts and graph that before actually doing anything else with the rifle. To that end I put some 320 or so strokes into the gun shooting Meister Kugeln 14 grain WC pellets. I chronographed velocities at 1,3,5,7,9,10,11,13,and 15 pumps. I computed Standard Deviations for muzzle velocity at each data point. I extrapolated averages for 2,4,6,8,12 and 14 pumps. I then graphed the average velocities in this chart.
Seneca-FPS-per-Pump-Initial.jpg

Rather than repeat what Mr. Gaylord said I'll point you to his reviews to read as he addressed all points well. I am going to use this thread to document my adventures with the rifle. I must say I am highly impressed with the rifle, particularly at it's price point. Standard deviations for the velocities were exceptional and averaged out to 6 fps for all data points. I believe that will improve when the rifle is "shot in" which Tom addresses in his evaluations.

I am looking forward to mounting an optic and wringing this rifle out on the bench and in the field.

More to follow.

Mike

Local Airgun Store (Return)

I’m new to the PCP world and got the itch so bad yesterday that I went to a local airgun store set on leaving with something. They didn’t have exactly what I was looking for, but I ended up walking out with a Gauntlet 2 in .22. As soon as I got home, I fired one pellet to see how “friendly” it would be in the backyard. Pretty dang loud, not a huge deal.

Fast forward to today and I am not happy with my purchase. I’m sure the G2 is nice for a lot of people, but it ain’t me. It’s looong, heavy, the bolt is heavy as hell, and I’m just not happy with it. I went up to the store after work today and asked what the return policy was. The salesman looked at me like I had a lampshade on my head. Am I crazy to think that I should be able to return this airgun? He took down my name and number and said he would have the owner call me to discuss.

What is the general consensus regarding a situation like this? The airgun is still essentially new. For reference there was nothing specific said when I was purchasing about returns or lack thereof. No signs in the shop, no info on the receipt, etc.

I’m interested in other people’s experiences.

Great day at the 200 yard range, despite the 3-6 mph winds. Splitting playing cards

Great day that the Diablo Rod and Gun Club in Concord, CA shooting my Texan at 200 yards.
Winds were 3-6 MPH right to left. I 3d printed some simple card holders to see if I can split cards at 200 yards.

I was able to split 2 cards and possibly 3 cards at 200 yards. 2 of the 3 cards blew away in the winds after impact.
Texan .257 LLS 72 grain Griffin slugs 3000 psi at approx. 990 fps.
Cold Shot, Vector Optics Minotaur 12x60x60 scope,, Remple Fclass bipod and tethered with a Regman regulator and 98 cubic pcp tank.

Breech O-rings

Hey all,

Just wondering. For my company and our pest control needs, I went and bought 3 PCP air rifles.

Let's just say it's not going well.
I found JSB's getting stuck and the skirts tearing, hard cycling, etc.
I sent my first Akela back due to a trigger issue. The second one tore skirts apart, hard cycling. Changed pellets. Seems to work ok now.
I have been so busy, I haven't even tried the third one yet. It's a Hatsan Bullboss due to the nasty conditions we will use it in.
To be honest, I don't even want to try it. The whole PCP thing has been such a total let down. I won't even take it out of the box. I got it months ago.
I get it. In todays world, quality control is nonexistant. Everything comes either pre-broken or you need to modify/ fix everything before using it. This is the world we now live in.

Apparently, I need breech O-rings. Lots of them. The Akelas eat them like a fat kid in a donut shop. The sad thing is that I've gone through a few and the last one lasted @100 rounds. And of course, the tech at Crosman says it's easy to do without taking the barrel off. Yeah....I have a fleet of vehicles and equipment for my business I maintain without a problem. The whole o-ring replacement without taking the whole dam thing apart wasn't happening.
This is my busiest time of year. I just don't have time for this. I do like the accuracy, though.

I've read that there are some more durable o-rings out there. Can anyone hook me up with some info on where I can get .177 and .22 caliber decent O-rings?
I was so pissed off today, I almost threw the one rifle in the trash. And I'm the kind of guy who will not burden someone else with my problems. I WILL toss it in the trash.

It's to the point, I look what I have invested, the compressor, the 3 rifles and I just get sick.
I'm a life long shooter (mostly rimfire) and "upgraded" from springers which I have used for decades without issue.

*ETA_ I have maybe 3 sessions on the one Akela and only 1 on the other. None on the one still in the box, as I'm too pissed off to even try.

Air Tanks  SOLD 118 cu in Air Tank "Guppy"

For sale is this Air Tanks For Sale Guppy. 118 cubic inches, with the second gauge showing air left in the tank. I bought this tank last year and noticed the glycerin was leaking from the main gauge. It has never been hydro tested ( meaning nobody has tried to stretch it .) If you must buy your compressed air commercially, it would need a hydro certification. To comply with DOT regulations, the tank will be emptied before shipment. I am offering this sale 3 ways; 1. the tank only......no hose, 2 the tank with a microbore hose with female foster fittings at each end, and 3. the tank, hose, and the Case Logic case that fits like a glove and protects the tank. Tank only.........$300.....................Tank+ Hose.........$325...............the whole shebang, tank, hose, padded case $360. Prices include insured ground shipping with insurance and tracking to the conus. Not interested in trades or offers at this time. Please deal by pm. Thanks for looking. Herb

Help a Left Handed Friend Find a New Gun

Hey guys, I have a friend who is definitely not new to PB guns but is new to airguns and is looking for help.

He got himself into a delimma in that he bought a Benjamin Armada Semi Auto which sounded cool at first since it was supposed to use the SAM action on a Challenger stock.

However, it keeps chewing up the mags...He's tried 4 different OEM with both CPHP and JSB 18.13 and no luck.

So he's within a year of buying from Pyramyd (they actually sent out new mags already) and also in the 5 year Benjamin warranty.

But he's thinking about calling it quits and get something else.

So for the roughly $750 or whatever he may get as a return if Pyramyd takes it back, what do you guys suggest a left handed guy get?

He wanted the Semi because it didn't need cycled "backwards" for him since he shoots lefty. But there aren't many that are reliable semi that also get good power and have good build quality that Pyramyd sells cause I know you guys use stuff like Leshiy and other $$$ semis.

There were a few Hatsans like the Galatian Semi Tact or Vectis but not many reviews. Lever action seemed cool and he could do left handed. I know some Senecas too. Eagle Claw

He also keeps wanting more power, and says .30. Well the only .30 I'd suggest is a Umarex Gauntlet .30 but that's right hand bolt. He may work through it for the accuracy and power though. Obviously a Blitz would fit the bill if on sale but he's hand pumping...

He's more casual user, plinker, but wants power for pests raccoon or maybe a coyote.

So basically I need an idea to give him for either .25 cal or .30 cal PCP. He is hand pumping for now... so that limits those big bottle guns. A .25 Marauder would work but it is kinda out classed for the price by all competitors being it is unregulated and you only get like 16 shots.

But I'm wondering if he gets the Gauntlet .30 for power and the MCX PCP for his semi auto fix?

Or maybe a Hatsan .30 Break Barrel that would be left friendly but only 30 fpe...

Sorry for the long post this is a particular situation.

Thank you in advance!

One less tomato thief

Out doing some yard work and noticed this little girl eating at the pecans I left out. Been 3 days since I put them out, so that's a good sign. Means I'm keeping the numbers down. Tired of these garden thieves!

Hades 25 cal pass thru both shoulders and hit the spine. Dropped DRT not a twitch.

........OR a Pathera "PISTOL"? Granted they should have put the 170cc tube in that picture, I tip my hat to anyone can shoot it as a pistol. LOL

Sadly only 1 configuration and its preorder on UA site. Price of $1699 is bit steep but seems to be where everyone is landing these days. Hoping the folding version will be cheaper. Plus hope to have the 380mm barrel option instead just the 300mm.

Found 1 defect while boxing this up. I remember seeing this at EBR when it was being displayed for everyone. Tried to add a little finish to blend it in but, it didn't do as good of a job as I hoped.

A New Compact Airgun Era Unfolds - The New Panthera Hunter Compact is Now Available.

A New Compact Airgun Era Unfolds - The Panthera Hunter Compact is a Short, Compact Hunting Powerhouse with Optional Configurations - Shipping Today!

New-Era-Unfolds-AGN.jpg

The FX Panthera leapt airgun innovation forward with its patented over the barrel plenum and high-power / short-impulse valve design. Though the original Panthera is a purpose-built competition slug rifle, shooters have desired to use this exciting new airgun technology in different ways as well. Introducing the new FX Panthera Hunter Compact. A compact pellet shooter that can be configured in multiple ways to be tailored to your style of shooting.

Standard-Compact-AGN.jpg

The Panthera Hunter Compact is available in calibers .177 thru .30 using a shortened FX Smooth Twist X Superior barrel (300mm barrel in .177 & .22 cal / 380mm in .25 cal / 395mm in .30 cal). The two smaller calibers use the 62cc Macro Plenum while the .25 & .30 cal barrels utilize a new 100cc Macro XL Plenum. The Hunter Compact comes with a 300cc carbon fiber bottle located in the front of the rifle to give great balance when shooting the rifle off-hand. It comes with a standard AR grip, full picatinny top rail with 20 MOA built in, and a rear stock with adjustable length of pull and adjustable cheek piece as standard.

Double-Bottle-AGN.jpg

Shooters can further tailor their rifle with accessories such as the FX Dynamic DoubleAir Adapter Kit which can add the addition of a 300cc carbon fiber bottle to the rear stock allowing a higher shot count. Users can even move the existing 300cc bottle to the back and place a 480cc or 580cc bottle at the front for a massive amount of air!

Arca-Compact-AGN.jpg

Additional accessories are also being released to tailor fit your rifle including the Dynamic Compact Length Arca Rail (can be added when configured with the bottle in the rear) and the FX Dynamic Side Accessory Pic Rail. Also being released is the new FX Dynamic AR Folding Stock adapter. This allows a standard AR buffer tube and butt stock to be affixed to the rifle, reducing the overall length of the rifle when folded to just 20” in length!

Folding-AR-Stock-Compact-AGN.jpg

PCP Rifle  NLA RTI Prophet 2 *Upgraded $1700 OBO shipped

Need cash. Selling at a great discount. $1700 OBO shipped for everything listed in the ad.

Ok guys and gals. I have a very nice RTI Prophet 2 performance that has been upgraded with the newest parts from RTI. Installed is the newest valve and regulator and I have removed the check valve to eliminate the wheezing. See picture of the damage I caused in removing the air tube. Just some scratches you hardly notice. The gun comes with everything you see in the pictures minus the scope, rings and bipod. Comes with the installed RPB .22 barrel and 2 mags, the LR .22 barrel with extra probe and the LW .30 barrel with probe, one .30 mag and one .30 end cap. Also comes with the barrel removal tool. The gun comes with a custom adjustable trigger installed plus the stock trigger. The 2 black valves are brand new, but not the newest generation. They are hit and miss. Comes with 3 additional regulator bodies, one of which is the most recent regulator. Its twin is already installed. Comes with a bunch of orings for 2 complete rebuilds. Also comes with a custom cheek rest. Will come in the original RTI hard case. This gun functions flawlessly now that it has been upgraded. Been working with Rok for a few months to get it functional. I really like the gun, but it’s not very comfortable for me to shoot. Not sure why. It is currently set up to shoot the JSB MRD at 980fps with great results out to 100. 1”-1.5”. You can shoot anything with this setup. The LR barrel shoots all pellets amazingly. The RPB shoots slugs and pellets equally great, but you need to cool it on pellet speed from this barrel. The LW .30 barrel shoots MOA all day with 44 gr JSB. Never did try slugs. The gun has all the power adjustment you’ll ever need. It’s hard to value this gun.
