rat problem in new york city

Nope, can't have airguns in the 5 boroughs. It's been that way for decades as far as I know. Pretty sure you could spend time in jail for a sling shot. I do recall from my time in Louisiana that in Jefferson Parish, the Sheriff's Dept went around the canals shooting nutria (with firearms). About the only people I'd trust in NYC with a pellet gun are the ones I already trust with firearms: the NYPD. So that's my proposal. Get a group of airgunning NYPD officers that want to hunt the subways, etc. for rats. Or make it part of basic training for recruits.

I thought of this, aside from the laws [if any exception was made] the liability alone would be the undoing for any involved in the ratting. A stray pellet or even a claimed one be it from a low power .22 or so would write enough bogus lawsuits to fill an olympic swimming pool. The rat issue if only a small town may have been slowed with a program but NYC is massive. A working organized team of 100 well seasoned and professional hunters wouldn't make any progress at all. They would need police escorts too given the enviornment--all that expensive gear and the rifles would cause a stir.

Here in Holland we have the same problems with 4 legs rats.
Just ordered this 'Automatic Humane Non-poisonous Rat And Mouse Trap Kit' powered by a CO2 cilinder. I hope this will do the job:

I have a few of those in my yard. They work very well. Captive bolt airgun.

I also have the big brother, the one that's designed for squirrels. That one also works great. I think they started selling the squirrel model in the States recently.

If you are a little less fussy you can buy near exact copies sold on aliexpress for a small fraction of the price.

I read somewhere a WHILE back, that it is illegal in NYC to have anything that shoots a projectile of any sort. Down to water guns and nerf. Not sure how true it is because it doesn't affect me. But I'm sure you cant just buy an air rifle at the local sporting goods store like you can everywhere else in the US. (most places at least)
I understand New Jersey is like that.
