30 cal AGT Vulcan 3 and slugs part 2

I posted back 4 months ago regarding this set up. Had some oversights, malfunctions of regulator , crap windy weather , blah, blah, blah. Now I have put through about a thousand rounds of 30 cal slugs including: FX hybrids, ZAN 55g and 59g, 63g too I believe is the weight. Griffans, and AVS. Cone base, dish base, cup base, flat base. All ammo with a diameter of .300 sucked. Not surprising since this gun has what appears to be a .306 barrel. Now I had Steve from AVS slug my barrel and he confirmed it was .306. Great! Now we are getting somewhere. I ordered slugs in that diameter. Since Steve lives close to me we met and discussed options for ammo, he made 55g 60g and 65g flat base as well as 55 and 60 g dish and cup base. He was very curious as to what would produce. well none were particularly awesome 1.5" to 2" at 75 yards. Then he recommended some test stuff in the 60-62.5g range Dish base and flat base. we hit the range and shot 60g flat, 61g flat, and 62.5g flat and 62.5g dish base at 100 yards. the 61g flat base we were able to get 1" average groups. all the rest were 1.25" average and higher with the 60 g being the worst. Now Steve is not a guy that gives up. He wants to try with 61.5g and 62g along with the 61g for final shooting session to deem which is best. He has a video coming out soon. you all will see by my weak shooting technique that if I can get 1" groups at 100 with these, anyone can. I have gun currently tuned to shoot the 61g slugs at 900 FPS for 112 FPE at the muzzle.

Yesterday I made some shots with my Vulcan 3 Long and the JSB 50.1 grain.

The performance was perfect. I made some adjustments to the trigger to make it feel as I wanted. Good.

But.... I have notice that after some shots with the Vulcan 3, my head feels like after shooting some rounds with the 30-06.

I may not say that the rifle is loud. I do not hear anymore the "twang" of the hammer.

But there is something that disturbe my head after some shots with that rifle.

Yep, the hammer slap is significant. Bothered my friend, as for me , I've spent years shooting hilti nail guns point blank next to my ears for several years so it doesn't bother me.

That's great shooting but it sucks that Airgun Technology screwed us on the barrels and you have to buy the much more expensive ammo.
I've got my TJ's .294/.300 barrel sitting on the bench I just have to finish it and install it on the gun. Too many projects and not enough time.
well ZAN and NSA use hardeners in their slugs. AVS uses pure lead and the expansion that can be attained is interesting. As for cost, I don't shoot the 30 cal that much where it will be a major issue. Accurate ammo is of highest priorty. It's a trade off I can deal with.

That's why I spent $155 on a barrel. I should get better accuracy and make up the cost in lower priced ammo. I'm thinking NSA only adds 1% tin which doesn't effect the hardness much. As long as you're happy with that's all that matters my friend. I'm making a few changes to be happier with mine. I modify everything.
Not bad, sounds like a pretty good idea. And I imagine you will make up the initial outlay. Good luck. I hope to hear results down the road.

I built an electronic leadscrew for my lathe because I hate threading with change gears. It's been giving me fits on the lathe with the programing becoming corrupt. I pulled the controller board a couple days ago, reprogrammed it and tested on the bench with a smaller hybrid servo and driver. It worked perfectly. Reinstalled the board at the lathe and it won't even power on while connected to the lathe servo and driver. I'll go out there tonight and try to diagnose further. I used to love working on electronics but I'm starting to hate it. That's the only thing stopping me from finishing the barrel.

EDIT: Dirty AC power was causing my problems with the ELS board so I run the board from a Li-ion battery pack now and it works flawlessly. No more sloppy change gears. Now I just touch a button to change between feed/thread, inch/metric and thread pitch.

What barrel did you get. I just ordered a Vulcan 3 and am already thinking of changing barrel

I got a TJ's barrel blank but they have to be machined to fit the gun then add the port, barrel threads and cut the lead. I do my own work but I still haven't fit the new barrel. I'm just transitioning back into my fall hobbies. I did make a spider nut for my G0602 lathe spindle so I can get to the barrel work now.

Dude ask about the 63 grain solids. AVS is awesome I asked for it because I need double lung punch and they sent samples and they are great 👍

Dude that guy is the best. He made me 63 grain solids "he doubted performance I get it" but I need penetration and he sends me a free sample. Dude if you hunt they work great. But thank God for avs lol
