FFP Scopes and all the hype

I am amazed at how many shooters of airguns are going for first focal plane scopes. The reticle gets very small on low magnification and I am guessing most will use the higher magnification rather than look at a small reticle. This may make sense if you are shooting a powder burning rifle at extreme distances but an air rifle at 100 yards or less? Also find it interesting that many want big fat 34mm tube scopes. Large tube diameter indeed gives more cross hair adjustment but do air gunners need that many clicks of adjustment? Then how about magnification? Does it make much sense to have 24x magnification under 100 yards? I shoot prairie dogs at 300 plus yards at about 16x BTW. Lastly, so many seem to want a 50mm or even 56mm objective lens. True you gather more light but from a practical point it matters very little. Also true you get a wider field of view but the best way to get that is to zoom out a little. My take is many shooters are caught up in marketing hype. I am an expert in human vision and practice optometry as well as enjoy shooting. Comments?

Other  New PCP interest

Hey guys I come here seeking guidance on a new venture. Im an avid hunter for 25 years and am looking to fill the gap of the year with some small game hunting with an air rifle. Squirrels, rabbit and coon control would be my main uses.

I live in NJ and our fun laws do not allow any "noise dampening devices". I usually am of the opinion of buy once cry once but the upper tier of PCP's has me questioning that. With all the regulated or not regulated rifles, pump or hand pump I'm a little apprehensive. If you were to buy a starter that you could grow into what would you buy and why. Im set on a .22 but besides that I am all ears to the veterans of the sport. Thank you for your time and information.

Vevor Compressor Failure - Any idea

So my compressor stopped working properly.. 5-months old. It will fill but very slowly and then when I turn it off it depressurizes, so I think there is a leak somewhere and I have this brown residue shooting out of the bleed valve.

Any clue? I contacted Vevor for warranty, and initially they wanted me to fix, then I got escalating $$ offers and finally after insisting I want a replacement they said out of stock and just refunded me. Very strange company.

So now I have this compressor, and my money back so I can take apart and fiddle... I have moved onto using Nitrogen so compressor here just for occasional fills so it being down is no big deal.

I want one!

Gonna give this a go.

I get tired of stacking shims under rear bags, stacking smaller rear bags on larger rear bags to get the "right height", squeezing rear bags to adjust height, and when the bag/s settle, sometimes redoing it all again. I can't believe what a hassle it's been over the years to get a rear bag settled "just right" when in changing scenarios. Every gun chassis or stock of mine has different dimensions, have 4 different bipods, so it seems most of the time "things" could definitely be better!

This is of course when I'm not going into full benchrest mode by using my PQP one piece, or Farley joy stick.

Not very expensive either.

Airgun Donations

I recently posted in the classifieds to sell all my airguns, scopes, ammo, etc and it will not all sell. I want to donate the rest to some youth shooting program. I asked my local BSA Troop and they are uncomfortable taking anything with the word "gun" in it. I looked online and thought CMP might take donations but didn't find anything on that. Any suggestions on how to get my stuff to some kids who want to learn how to shoot, compete, etc.?

22 or 25 for squirrels

Hi guys! Just wanted to know what y’all think is best ,for squirrel and rabbit 22 or 25cal? I’ve got a jts aircuda max 25cal & p3 in 25cal. Both do great for squirrels. I just set up a notos for my son & law for x-mass. I took it out twice and got two. One head shot and one vitals. Shot three others and vitals. all could run far enough to get inside a tree couldn’t recover. I’m really looking for something compact for hunting and was considering 22. Maybe I just need something with more power? What are y’all‘s thoughts? Any info is appreciated.

FX  Typical air difference after a fill

Greetings,

Because of physics and the gas laws, there will always be pressure differences just after a fill... hot air cooling down and all that.

I'm wondering what the typical air pressure difference is after a fill? I have an Impact M4 Sniper.

How long does your gauge take to normalize?

BTW, my compressor takes 10 minutes to fill 130 bar.

Thanks

Hatsan  New to HATSAN products

So my wife just gave me a early Christmas present.. it's a hatsan Neutron Star 25cal. Has a ATN Xsight 4pro scope with ABL1500, has a cv life bipod, fx chrono v2, donnyfl sumo moderator, and ir950 light. It's a sweet set up...But they say this gun likes slugs. I've tried a bunch of them ranging from 28gr to 40gr...non of them were accurate on target. I'm dead 0@30yds with the JSB 33.49gr ex king heavy mki. with dime sized groups. But slugs? ALL OVER The place... Yet I see reviews saying it really likes them, but in a .22cal ...does anyone have any ideas for a 25cal. ? In this gun ...

Not bad for first time! My 9yo shoots the lights out!

DNT optics are pretty rad and Rio Salado is so great. This is my kid's first time shooting off the bench, first time shooting for speed, first time at silhouettes.
Special thanks to Carl for keeping the Tuesday nights rocking at Rio the last couple weeks.

Huben  Huben gk1 .254 slugs

So everywhere I looked the memo seemed to be that the gk1 shoots slugs with a slightly bigger diameter. I just got some NSA slugs today that were .254 and they seem to be too big for the magazine. It has jammed my gun up multiple times. Now I am not knocking NSA or anything. But I was just posting this to let everyone know that there is a chance that .254 may be a bit too big for your huben.

My gk1 is 25 cal V3. I understand there is a huge huben thread talking about ammo but I figured I would ask if Jsb hades will shoot well through it. Right now I have 3 packs of ammo that will not work through this gun so I want to make sure I get the right ammo so I don’t keep wasting money. Thanks

Daisy .22 500ct pellets new?

Just picked up a couple of tins of these Daisy .22 500ct pellets from Tractor Supply for $7.99. I've never seen these before, but they look quite nice. There's no information that I can find that shows the actual weight of the pellet. They seem to be bigger and heavier than the Crossman Premier HP that I exclusively use ( can't beat the price and are quite accurate in all of my PCP's). The only thing that I don't care for at the moment, is the tin is a push top not a screw top. Anyone try these yet? It will be a few days before I get a chance to try them out.

Here's a pic vs. CPHP's.

I caved the other night!!

Many problems with putting a regulator in my new Daystate revere and what to blame?
So first I bought a 3 liter tank on eBay but how am I gonna fill? Figured I’d take my time and do it
with this $200 Chinese thing.
Went ( for me big) on a gx cs4i from gx $585 total, about $80 more than alibaba but for once I thought
it might be safer.

Crosman  2240 I bought today

IMG_20241217_161311463_HDR.jpg

I went to a local pawn shop this afternoon and found this like new 2240. I put in a CO2 and it works. The Gamo Blue Bomber pellets were included with a previously purchased gun.
They were close at hand so that's what I shot today. Judging from the serial number I think it was mfd in 1987. Tomorrow I plan to shoot it from a rest and try a couple different pellets to see what it likes.

Daystate  It wasn’t the guns fault

Got my Daystate huntsman revere .25 a few weeks ago. It was and is not recommended in .25 on here but I bought before reading.I thought I was getting great deal for $900 but it was unregulated. It shot 30 20 gr pellets fine in my cellar range of 13 yards but started low at 796 and rose to 936 after 16 shots 170 BAR and fell to 863 125 BAR at shot 29. I don’t know what 50 yards would be but I suspect there would be a vertical path .

So tinkering I shall do, ordered a huma regulator and with much troubles finally got installed with no leaks. Kept the stock off and went to accurizing. Started at 150 on the huma and got consistent 890s but only 14 shots before dropping off.
Reduced to 140 on reg and saw no real change. Started playing with hammer , in the end back to what it was about.

So far and I’m not done but the only thing the regulator did was make the shots consistent from the first shot till about 15. Stock you could
get about 27 but the first 8 or nine were way low fps.
