FX  FX DRS Semi Pro

I received my slug power kit from Europe Airguns today and got it installed.
20240611_130440.jpg

I installed the slug probe 1st without installing the tungsten hammer weight.

20240611_145021.jpg

I have my reg set at 170bar, the gun was shooting the 34gr H&N Heavy at 989 5 shot average.
The 38gr H&N Heavy at 946 5 shot average.

After the slug probe 34gr 1004 average and the 38gr 960 average.
The extreme spread went up from 5 to 9 fps on the 34gr and 5 to 7 fps with the 38gr.

Now for the tungsten hammer weight.
I measured my hammer spring adjustment at 9mm from the back of the receiver. I made a guess to turn it in to 6mm since the head of the tungsten hammer weight is 2mm taller and definitely heavier.
20240611_145003.jpg

I actually didn't gain any velocity after the installation of the hammer weight my average 1001 fps and extreme spread was 10 fps. So I tried adjusting more tension but speeds got slower so I did ⅛ turn out until I got this 12 shot string

Screenshot_20240611_190415_FX Radar.jpg

I was running low on air in my SCBA tank so I didn't get to shoot the 38gr again.

It's close to a DRS Pro with the addition of the slug power kit, carbon fiber sleeve and the picatinny scope rail.
Of course no match grade trigger or the MDT Elite Chassis.

HW/Weihrauch  Leaving springers cocked.

I left a Vortek kitted Hw30 cocked for a few days. Later when the velocity tested low I replaced the spring assuming it was wasted. After all the seal appeared perfect and held pressure anywhere in the stroke.. The velocity was still sub par (par=8fpe). Seal tested good, new spring and still low maybe the compression tube?So I swapped the new spring and piston seal assembly into another good working 30. I have a few of them. The velocity dropped to the same number on the other 30. Obviously there's nothing wrong with the compression tube. Turns out the piston seal was bad and the spring was never the issue. It was totally fine after being left cocked for days.

This week my 177 Hw50 was testing low. About 750-760 with a 8.44 JSB. I know that that gun has also been left cocked for days. After all it didn't ruin my 30. Justifiably I didn't suspect a soft spring. After all, leaving the 30s cocked didn't bother them. I swapped out the piston seal on the 50 since that turned out to be the problem on the 30. There was no change in the 50. Even after breaking in. I reluctantly swapped in a new spring into the 50 and it snapped back to 800fps. That's 12 fpe which is about right for a 177 50.

This just goes to show two things.
1) the effects of leaving a gun cocked varies by gun.
2) seemingly good piston seals can be bad.

There's always stuff to learn with springers. I'm continually humbled by them.

Be well
Ron

N/A  Bullpup Vs. Pistol

Bullpup Vs. Pistol.
Opinion:

61134-Vzduchovka-Taipan-Veteran-Standard-5-5mm-Coffee.jpg

When I saw my first bullpup (picture online, probably an Edgun or KalibrGun can't remember) I immediately had an 'ah-ha', why-didn't-I-think-of-that moment.
The compactness, the carry handle... everything about moving the action back into the butt of the gun made perfect sense to me.

I instantly fell out of love with my .22 Marauder and springers, sold them and bought a gen 1 Wildcat, then a .25 Vulcan, eventually a Taipan and sold all the rest.
Been living happily ever after since then. Basking the the sweet bullpup goodness that only Taipan can provide IMHO.

I get that some don't 'get' bullpups.
What I don't 'get' are pistols.

These days, whenever I see a picture of a conventional PCP rifle I think 'what a waste of space'. For the same price, the barrel could have been longer.
The air tube could have been longer. The CG could have been moved back creating perfect balance and so on.

Conventional PCP rifles all look like pistols to me now and the area between the action and the butt pad wasted space.
Plus the unnecessary length!
I think it's one of those things where once you see it, you can't un-see it.

Anyone else or am I outa my PCP-lovin' mind? 😄

Here are just two examples:

  • Question
FX  Bad valve? Maybe?

My gladiator mk2 used to get 120 shots per fill at an avg of 890fps I was having problems with it leaking when filling past 2500 psi or so. I took it apart to change a seal in the front air tube to fix the leak. Now a new problem arose. When you remove both air cylinders from the main block because of the regulator, it should hold air which needs to be released before you can take the gun apart any further. When you take the cylinders off all the air would leak right out of the block which led me to believe it was a bad regulator. I replaced the stock regulator with an aftermarket hum regulator now instead of the 120+ shots that I used to get I get around 40 in a shot string that looks very similar to an unregulated gun. The speed plateau and then slowly drops off as the pressure drops off and instead of getting the 120+ shots from 3000 down to 1500 I get 40 so I’m losing air somewhere starting to think that it might be the main valve. Anyone have any experience or advice for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Utah Airguns sun shirt

Over the past Christmas break I was in SLC and dropped in at UA. They have a "sun shirt" (https://utahairguns.com/product/utah-airguns-2023-sun-shirt-white-v2-0/) and I grabbed one, along with another 250 dollars worth of stuff :)

I had the honor to shoot this past week end at the Nevada State FT match in the hills outside of Battle Mountain NV. It was, as the other times Ive been there, hot. Relentless sun, and little shade on the course. I wore that shirt both days of the match (rinsed it out after the first day). It was the most comfortable Ive been at the 3 matches IVe shot there. While I was still hot, it kept the sun off me, no sunburn on my arms. I need to get anohter couple of them, cuz Im gonna be out in the heat and sun a lot this summer, mainly doing non-airgun stuff, but I need all the protection I can get.

Sometimes the little things can really make a difference in an activity, and that shirt certainly fits that description. Recommended!

PCP Rifle  SOLD FX Crown MKII .25 (600mm) Yellow Jacket

I am selling my FX Crown MKII .25 with 600mm barrel.
Odb silencer
Athlon Optics Midas Tac HD 6-24x50 FFP MOA reticle
FX chronograph v1
JTS comp1 compressor
2 magazines and the gun will ship in the original box.

I am hoping to keep it all together. I am asking $2500 for the setup. Seeing as this will be large and heavy, I would ask that we work together on shipping. If it is reasonable, I will cover it. I am in California though, so if you are in Maine, we could work together to make it fair :)

H&N Precision Slug .22 - your new option for long-range shooting

Precision-Slug-55.jpg
At H&N we always strive to meet the needs of shooters in the world of airgun ammunition. With advances in airgun technology, we believe in always keeping pace with new, improved products in the shooting world.

With barrel and power improvements among airguns, we responded with the first Slug HP range. Over time with feedback from the hunters among you, we responded with the T-Slot Hollow Point for the H&N Slug HP II and the new H&N Heavy Slug range. This new improved T- Slot shape of the cavity, allows for quicker deformation when hitting a game's body and delivering the sufficient energy needed to take down your target with ease.

In the increasingly popular long range air rifle competitions, shooters take aim at steel and paper targets, and are looking for a slug which is precise and accurate even in difficult wind conditions. Knowing this we teamed up again with pro shooter Airhunter Gerhard and developed a new slug: the H&N Precision Slug.

The new H&N Precision Slug is even more reliably accurate than the other H&N Slugs, and with average B.C of 0.140 significantly less susceptible to wind and maintains a flatter trajectory.

What's the secret? Well in short it is the optimized shape of the ogive and the cavity that raises the BC factor. The latter is also deeper than on our first slugs, bringing the center of gravity to a perfect point for stable flight. Of course we have added some of our own trade secrets that we can’t discuss but what you surely will enjoy every time you hear the sweet sound of steeling ringing! Btw: that doesn't mean that you cannot use it for hunting!

Initially, the slug will only be offered in .22 caliber (.217 and .218) and only in the 33 grain weight version.

Production has started. Unfortunately, as always, airgunners overseas have to be a little more patient until the slugs are available in their country.

Daystate  Huntsman Huma Tuning

I installed a Huma regulator into my Huntsman Regal - one of my objectives was to extend usable shots for target shooting.

My Regal is one of the last ones produced, so it has the 250 bar max fill pressure.

After installing the reg with the reg pressure set at 165 bar, I got 27 shots on the reg shooting 15.89g at 885fps.

I lowered power using a 3mm long allen to adjust length of hammer throw - down to 858 fps.

I now have a nice shot string of 32 shots at 855-863fps with the 15.89g. Accuracy is very good with this velocity.

It fell of the reg rather quickly: 858-835-812 for shots 32-33-34.

Is 32 shots on the reg in the 860fps range with 15.89 about all I can expect, or should I be able to tune (adjust reg pressure, etc) to get 40-45 shots at this power level?

My understanding is that factory Huma regulated Huntsmans get about 42 shots on the reg.

I’d appreciate input from those that have actually tuned a Huntsman with Huma. I have lots of experience tuning other rifles - so I’m looking for input specific to Huma regulated Huntsmans.

Thanks,
-Ed
