AEA  AEA SF .30 another "talk me out of"

After the Gauntlet conversation yesterday you guys were nice enough to talk me out of that rifle. So I started my search over again. The AEA SF is lighter but still has a bottle that can be upgraded and allows for 4500 PSI. It can be used as a bolt action. It looks better (to me) and it comes in three barrel lengths. Searching the threads on here the only complaint seems to be a heavy trigger and I can live with that. What do you guys think?

The airguns of the apocalypse...

The recent events here in Western NC had the lady and I discussing which cat to eat first. (We agreed on Milo, the fat one.) But he was spared, for now...

Over a week without power, a phone (including the cell phone) really had us thinking. Being unable to go anywhere because of a blocked driveway and stranded in the cul de sac by all the downed trees was cause for concern. We 're lucky enough to live on a hill and not have to worry about all the flooding. Many here were no so lucky.

That we'd both read "One Second After" (you should too,) meant that we were better prepared than most. There was enough food for over a month and the now non-potable water never went off. The gas line was ruptured by tree roots so cooking was out, as was heat on the cold nights. Candles and even sterno will eventually boil water for ramen noodles and a kerosene fueled heater made for enough heat.

P9270082.JPG

She was happy that we'd be able to gather food with the current inventory of airguns as there are many squirrels and turkeys available here. The old 760, the Blue Streak and the QB78 were there, but luckily weren't called into service. Here they are leaned up against the downed maple and an oak in the front yard.

PA290136.JPG

Supplies that we wished we had were things like baby wipes, a better generator, disposable plates and plastic-ware, more premix and bar-oil for the chainsaw, some cash, a TV with an antenna (for her,) and a still (for us). We're gonna get on that once things get closer to normal.

Here's a pic of the driveway. It's under those trees. The truck and bike had been moved, so they were spared.

P9270081.JPG

I have some portable radios and even gave a few to neighbors. They were invaluable when we all needed news. Being able to get the elderly neighbor's generators running for them was a great ability to have, too. A simple feel-good in these time is a treasured thing. It isn't over yet, but eventually that will happen.

What would you be using during a time of duress? I did relieve a little stress with the 760...

Cheers,

J~

Other  Pellet / New WH30s Question

Embarrassing Question: I received my nw HW30s yesterday - the first real air gun i have ever held. The only pellets I have are Crosman "Recreational POINTED .177 Cal / 7.4 grain. From recommendations on this forum I have a list of preferred pellets. No one sells these where I live so I placed an order from Pyramid Air but it will take a week to get them. Will it damage my rifle to use the pellets I have? Perhaps shooting 50 or so pellets a day while awaiting the "right" pellets that are on order. This really emphsizes that I know so little about air guns!
I also ordered a PatchWorm with extra patches and I will clean the barrel when that arrives
My new HW30s is a work of art. The workmanship is unbelievable!
THANKS, Tarheel

HW/Weihrauch  HW77 .25

Lob is not the word for it. My HW77 .25 does just that. Put it through the crony. Hmmmm. Shooting a Hates.
IMG_0180.jpeg
Time for a look. And this is what I find after I open it up.
IMG_0182.jpeg
Amazing the accuracy with a broken spring. The piston seal looked fine but got a Vortek any way.
IMG_0183.jpeg
Normally so far I’ve only installed Vortek springs. This time I‘m trying this.
IMG_0187.jpeg
After a few quick shots I cronied it. I thought the crony was stuck on 505 fps. but no, consistently shooting them at this speed. A little buzz in the spring.

I’m going to go give it a night shoot tonight. Crow

FX  M4 slug selection

So I've decided to make a dedicated slug gun, I went with the M4 .22 700mm with a stx superior heavy liner on order.
I'd like to keep the performance mods to a minimum and be efficient with the air as much as possible. I think be around 100- 150 yrd range would be great.
I'm thinking of trying nsa, h&n maybe griffin near the 27g weight might be a good start from older u2 vids.
I'm looking for some recommendations of slugs with positive results as of late to prevent me from buying a million slugs of various brands/weights.

N/A  Ghost or uragan 2 in .177

So I’ve got the itch for a new gun in .177 and I want the option to shoot slugs.
I‘m torn between the Uragan 2 with the 600 mm barrel, carbon stock or the standard barrel hp ghost.

Not a whole lot of info on either of these guns shooting slugs in .177

Anyone with experience with either in .177 and slugs?

Currently I have an original Uragan in .30 which loves slugs and pellets. I also have an impact m3 in .22 shooting 18 Grn pellets. Also a Hm1000x in .22.

Which gun out of the uragan and ghost would be the better .177 shooter?
Mostly used for pesting with some paper, steel punching as well.
Probably order from Krale.

Hatsan  Newbie Fail

782F15B5-6272-4AA2-AC43-AC46D5B9B286_1_201_a.jpeg

My hunting buddy got a PCP (22cal Notos - or something like that), so of course I had to get one (25cal Hatsan Flash RQE).
First trip out I had magazine issues. To the point I had to discard one because it failed almost 95% of the time.
The one that kinda worked (70% of the time) had the internal spring slide out. I was handy enough to remove the spring from the non-functioning one and replace. But now, I can't get this magazine to work as it once did and has dropped to about 50% success rate.
It's now a good single feeder....
I did purchase 2 off market brands off Amazon. So we will see how this goes. What I like about my buddies Notos (or whatever) it has a magnet that tells the OP where the magazine is supposed to sit. Such a small thing. But the slop factor in Hatsan Mag is HORRIBLE!!!

I still don't think its shooting right. Advertised velocity (which I never believe is true, a gimmick, a comparable market standard at best) is 900 FPS but doesn't say what pellet weight they were using I am guessing the lightest ones.
Mine likes to shoot the 33.9grs. which are averaging 549-575FPS depending on what brand I am shooting.
31gr are getting 580FPS
26.5gr are getting 635FPS
I just had some 20gr show up. Deducing the numbers above, this pellet should get me in the 800FPS range.

So now I am shopping for another 25cal maybe 30cal. Probably 25cal since I have 6-7 tins of pellets to work through. I'm actually eyeballing the new JTS Airacuda but some are calling it entry level. I'm also eyeballing some Airforce Texans but really want something silenced (yes, I am going to use that word)!

Any non-entry level suggestions THAT DON'T HAVE SLOPPY MAGS would be appreciated. Yes, this is for hunting coons!!!

  • Question
FX  FX M4 800mm

Hi,

Im new in this forum and I’ve heard positive things about the community so I give it a shot, pun intended. I just bought the gun and Ive been studying a lot from videos and forums, BUT still having open questions.
1. Is the 800mm rifling 1/16?
2. Anybody willing to help me getting quick setup for JSB Exact King .25 (25,39 grain) pellets?

Was thinking just to go basic setup with 4 lines, 3 and 8. Those circled values. Am I on right track?
My plan is just to zero the gun for 30 or 50 meters and to have decent grouping. Going to tune it later after I get radar to measure speeds. Going to range in 5h and have no time for more research so asking for community.

Thank a lot!

Air Arms  Running my TX200 without one of the spring guides

In my run up to the Worlds have had issues keeping the gun below the 12 ftlb limit.....

ordered a 12 ft lb spring, arrived and ,,,,,,, its bigger diamter than either of the guides/sleeves I have that the spring travels INSIDE of. The guides the spring goes over/inside the spring fit fine.

Any reason(s) to worry about running it with only the one guide? Its twangy and buzzy but wayyy more consistent than the kit Ive been working with (cant remember who made it or where purchased).

FX  Need Help Form You FX Royale Guys

I just acquired a Royale 500 25 cal. It came with a aftermarket moderator not the original shroud. With the moderator on the gun shoots 1" plus groups at 50 yds. With it off it will shoot 1/2" groups or better a 50 yds. So my question is can a factory shroud be purchased? I looked on FX's site and found nothing. If not what aftermarket moderator would you recommend that will not effect accuracy.

Thanks Les

HW/Weihrauch  Weihrauch HW Model 35 .177 caliber Rifle

Weihrauch HW Model 35 .177 caliber Rifle

Hello to all;

It was back in 1973 when I received one of “Air Rifle Headquarters” Full Line Catalogs that I got my first real exposure to the (Weihrauch) HW 35 series spring break Air Rifle; it was on the cover with a Custom Stock. It was impressive looking indeed; it also had a thumb operated heavy duty breech latch that provided a secure barrel breech lockup. The front sight was a Globe type with replaceable inserts, rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation, “Rekord” adjustable trigger; a really nice looking Air Rifle!! BUT A BIT OUT OF MY PRICE RANGE AT THE TIME!!

Fast forward to 1990, I received a flyer from “Precision Sales International” (same folks I got my BSA Supersport.22 from) advertising an HW Model 35 .177 caliber Deluxe, I immediately ordered one, recalling my 1973 exposure in the ARH Catalog!! Actually the HW- 35 series rifles were the predecessor to the HW 80- series/Beeman R-1 etc. which has a slightly longer stroke, delivering a bit more velocity. The unit I received from “Precision International Sales” had a Walnut stock, no finger grooves, with stock cheek rise, checkering in the pistol grip area, and rubber butt pad, “Rekord” adjustable trigger, adjustable rear sight etc. .177 caliber; a classic looking rifle indeed! Serial number indicated 1988 build date.

After receiving the rifle I put a couple hundred pellets thru the unit for a break in period using Crosman 7.9 grain pellets; adjusted the trigger pull to 2.5 lbs sighted in @ 25 yds , groups of ¾--1 -1/2 inch were the norm. I then pulled the stock off cleaned all take down screws and slots and reassembled using Blue Loc –Tite. My intention all along was to scope this unit, so at this point I removed the sights installed a Bushnell Scopechief 4x32 AO Scope and what Beeman called a Universal Muzzle Brake (really just a muzzle cover) but it covers the front sight mounting area well.

The HW-35 is a big rifle; 45.5 inches OAL, 8.5 lbs, (10 LBS WITH SCOPE) cocking effort 30 lbs; the safety is a push button at the rear of the receiver activated upon cocking! The heavy duty thumb operated breech latch; in my opinion contributes to more consistent accuracy; adds a step to cocking and requires a small relief cut for the thumb latch on the stock for clearance, but worth it in my opinion! Others may disagree.

I had run some accuracy/velocity checks on this Rifle many moons ago, but decided to run a new series for this write up; for one I had a larger selection of pellets to choose from, and two it just seemed like fun to do it once again!! I used Crosman 7.9 grain pellets for the velocity testing. Ten rounds gave me a high of 765 fps and a low of 746 fps. For an average of 755 fps 10.0 ft. lbs. pretty good numbers for a 36 year old!! Actually these numbers are equivalent to the numbers I ran some 15 years ago!!! I have replaced the breech and piston seal twice(synthetic) and piston spring once over the last 34 years as I recall. All accuracy testing was performed at 25 yards from a benchrest . I used 6 different pellets: Crosman PMHP, JSB EXACT, Predator Polymag, Beeman FTS, RWS Superdome and RWS Match; 5 shots each.

Crosman PMHP – 1.130” Center to Center

JSB EXACT – 1.320” Center-Center

PREDATOR POLYMAG .690”Center-Center 4 INTO .320”

RWS Match 1.410” Center-Center

RWS Superdome 1.030” CC / Beeman FTS(H&N) .710” Center-Center

The clear winner was the Pedator Polymags , this pellet is capable of sub half inch groups @ 25 yds, next would be Beeman FTS @ sub ¾” , all the rest were 1 inch groups. I guess by today’s standards these groups would not be to impressive; 36 years ago however, they would be hard to beat!!! In fact with the Polymag Predator pellets and 10 ft. lbs , I think this HW 35 would be pretty competitive with most non magnum spring powered .177 caliber Air Rifles of today , just my opinion!! Also has a very smooth shot cycle.

One thing not in question on this HW 35 is the overall craftsmanship and enduring build quality of this 36 year old Air Rifle, it is extremely well made, dark rich bluing, Walnut Stock with Pistol Grip checkering and cheek rise with Rubber butt pad; hard for me to not tout the Elegance of these Air Rifles from yesteryear!! Been in production since 1951 and still being produced today!!!!

One other thing I might mention, the Bushnell Scopechief 4x32 AO scope has been on this rifle since late 1990, it has not slipped once, nor have the crosshairs rotated or in any way give me any trouble, a $12.95 purchase at Wally World, this also speaks to the quality of products in that time frame!!!

Course with us air gun aficionados, one thing is constant; exposure to one Air Rifle seems to require another Air Rifle. In my case; yep a HW model 80!!!!!!!! Maybe next time!!!

FX  New FX m4 question ( new to PCP )

Hey guys

Just got my new FX impact M4 and started shooting for the first time…. Had some questions you guys might be able to answer

Gun specs
FX M4 700 .30
JSB diabolo exact .30 44.75gr

Questions:
1. When the gun is uncocked I can barely turn the fine adjustment screw up or down it is crazy stiff and takes all the effort I can to move it…. The macro adjustment moves fine and the setting it around 4 and still hard to move the micro

2. I notice shoot g the .30 pellets that they shoot pretty consistent around 900-905 but if I wait about 30-60 seconds in between shots the FPS hits down to like 880-890

3. What do you guys prefer to zero your scope at right now it’s at 35 but not sure if that is good or not

4. What FPS do you shoot .30 pellets at usually

This is the 35 meter group after some tuning

Other  Cold shot accuracy

A few weeks ago I was reading through the "Whats your most onsitently accurate airgun?" thread. Regulator creep andcold shot accuracy was brought up. So this got me wondering and I decided to do a little test with my RTI Prophet Performance with a .25 RPB barrel installed.
I have my Prophet tuned to shoot JSB 33.95gr King Heavys at an average of 920 fps. My target board is set at 50 yards with 3 inch splatter targets.

I have been in and out as this is my busy season so here are 5 cold shots spread out from October 9th through today October 28th.

Cold shot #1. No site in or dry fire. Just load a pellet and take the shot.
Time, date and tempreture logged on target.

Cold shot #3

Cold shot #4
IMG_3218.JPG

This was this morning and I was going to wait until I got back next week for the fifth shot, but then I thought about why I would be taking a cold shot in the first place.
I am not a hunter, but I did buy my first serious PCP to deal with raccoons that were killing my chickens after the sun went down, so I decided the fifth shot would be after dark.
I do not have a light on my Prophet, so I brought out my TalonP along with it for illumination.
IMG_3221.JPG

and this is cold shot #5 from just a few minutes ago.

Yes, there are some very minor incosistancies between cold shots, but enough to be a problem? Not for me.

Anyone else care to join in on this little experiment?

Benjamin  SSG for .22 Benjamin Marauder rifle

Hi. New to PCP air guns and I have a .22 Benjamin Marauder which I really like. I have not done anything to the rifle and shot 3 magazines per fill (from 3000 down to 2000 PSI). I recently came across SSGs and saw how they can increase shot count, and I'd like to put one in my gun. Which SSG do you guys recommend and where can I buy it from? I did some research and did not find any obvious ready to buy options, and it seems like people make their own. Happy to consider both options but leaning to buying something ready to go versus building my own. Thanks!

Amazing Airgun Store

Made a trip to Utah last week from Michigan. Spent time in Salt Lake City and then traveled to Zion. Realized that Utah Airguns was on the way so had to make a stop. What an impressive showroom with dozens of rifles on display
But even more impressive was the staff. Super friendly and full of great info. Wish I would have had more time there. Did purchase a souvenir from Perry.
