Which version HW95?

I am interested in getting back into shooting after years of abstinence and have rightly or wrongly gravitated to the HW95/Beeman R9. I like the look of the longer stock of the Luxus, but would be grateful for any advice from those more knowledgeable as to the different versions out there from the big sellers. For example the R9 Elite Combo from PA has a Mantis 4-12 X 40 scope and retains the original open sights, while the comparable HW95L Field Pro is $50 more from AoA and comes with a Weihrauch branded 3-9 X 40 scope and a muzzle weight but not the open sights. Which in your view is the best buy?

My previous post got flagged and locked, thank you to those that already responded. Which scope is better? Best with the muzzle weight+ scope or keep the open sights+ scope? Both have the longer stock.

Yes, you can silence a piston rifle.

... AND it WILL be as quiet as your PCP!!!

A recent thread prompted me to run a test this morning. I was certain that moderators provided no real advantage on piston rifles. So much for what we "believe" and what we "know".

I pulled half a dozen moderators, couple of Donny's and some home brew, from my bench and picked up the HW98 in .20 cal. I also tested my HW110 against the springer so that we could compare apples to apples. The HW110 shows up on the graph below.

IMG_20220826_091304976_HDR~2.jpg
I carried them out to the bench and set my "sensor" six meters from the muzzle and a meter off the path of the pellet because I want to know how the moderator performs in the direction of the target. I am a hunter first.

I fired five shots each with the six moderators and five with the rifle in the stock configuration. Here are the results. Draw your own conclusions? Let me suggest that VENDORS pay close attention to these results because they may open up a significant new market (or not). I now wish every springer I own had a threaded muzzle.

IMG_20220826_091314297~2.jpg

I ran that data on the spread sheet.

Yes Martha, I was surprised too.

What I believe is going on here is simple enough. Our hearing is non-linear. We perceive loud sounds with less sensitivity than quiet sounds. When we put a pound or two of metal and plastic right next to our heads and release all that energy it literally overwhelms our ability to hear anything else for a moment. During that moment the muzzle blast occurs and we mostly can't hear it. It makes it darn near impossible to judge for ourselves if the moderator is doing anything to reduce sound down range. To my ear there was basically no difference other than perhaps the "tone" or "sharpness" of the sound, but down range, there is a difference.

Test it for yourself. ;)

NOTE # 1: Tom, B is CF#1, A and D are identical internally to CF#1 but vary in diameter and so volume.
NOTE # 2: -11 dB is a huge change in sound power. Specifically it is like reducing the power by about 1,250 PERCENT or 12 and a half times.

Fair Market Value? Picture Heavy

I have 2 Springers I’m looking at selling. A Walther LGV Challenger .177 and a AA TX200 .22. I’ve never been into Springers and don’t know how well they hold value. I’d like to put them on the classifieds, but I have no clue how to price them in the condition they are in. Any help would be appreciated.

Budget PCP package I'm assembling, what else am I going to need? TIA

First off, I'm doing this for hunting squirrel and pests around the house (groundhog, squirrel, and raccoon) with the occasional target shooting session. Second, I've got a budget of less than $1K (can't piss off the boss). I already have a .25cal Hatsan 95 QE which I love, crappy scope and all, it shoots great. I want to stick to keep the same caliber to share ammo.
What I'm looking at is the Air Venturi Avenger in .25cal with the wood stock and a Yong Heng compressor. That's less than $700. The gun comes with a male fitting, will I need something else to connect to the compressor?
Thanks,
Ben

No longer available.

Made in England, Theoben Eliminator 22, FactoryThumbhole…Left Hand! Excellent in the 🏠

A rare bird indeed.

The wood, while not exotic is very nice for a Theoben. It has the smallest of handling marks. It looks close to new there is no wear on the finish. I would rate it 97%. If I were buying it and they told me it was 98% I would’ve been satisfied. It’s quite pretty.

The metal I would rate at 98%. Again if someone sold it to me and told me it was 99% I would not have been dissatisfied. It’s beautiful.

It cocks hard, I will be lowering the pressure. It shoots hard also, and the trigger is wonderful.

A truly incredible find. Enough to make a lefty Theofan somewhat jealous… I imagine.

Mike

Enjoy the pics. I’ll be shooting chipmunks with it tomorrow. They need thinning out.

Tuning  FX Impact M3 valve & seat upgrade

20220618_201327.jpg
20220618_201305.jpg

Used old style valve housing that used to use removable valve seat. Made a new seat of bigger size. Machined the valve housing to fit in M3 72cc plenum. Made a new valve out of peek and with a bit bigger outer dia.

All other settings remaining identical.

On same settings the gun which was previously giving 925fps with 25 grain .25 pellets, now gives 970fps.

To come back to previous desired fps, reduced the power wheel from 8 to 4.

I think its another way to skin a cat. A substitute of power block.

Where are you buying your hammer springs?

Like others I have experimented with cutting my hammer springs looking to improve performance. But other than shot count the loss of power doesn’t work for me and I want to replace the springs for full power. No problem with my Crosman guns but My Diana Stormriders seem to offer a problem. I have the parts diagram but can’t find where to order parts from. eBay lists generic hammer springs but I don’t know what they will fit. I read about benefits from a dual hammer spring and if there is something to it now would be the time to learn. I see UK companies offering spring replacements but I am concerned that if I order from them I will get springs tailored to UK FP restrictions. Rather than guessing and testing I would rather ask ‘what has worked for you’.

Thanks

FAT BOY...how did you make it better?

Without the extension tube, without the vented air stripper, just the can and plug in the front end. How did you make it function better/quieter? Gun makes 25 to 27 lbft, .22 cal, Prod at 18/20lbft works great, Avenger at 31lbft again great, TalonP at 31lbft not worth a poop. As soon as my scope and rings arrive I'll be screwing it onto a new to me gun. Want to know what worked for you on this can.
thanks
