Prairie dogs with Condor and slugs

Spent about 2hrs busting prairie dogs yesterday evening.

I tried to edit out most of the gore and dirt dancing.

Interesting to see that in nearly all the shots the slug goes right through them. Sometimes it changes direction and sometimes it continues on the same trajectory (bones).

Because of this slugs tendency to perforate, there are a handful of clips of dead dogs walking. I left a couple intentionally. They'll stagger around for 5-20 feet and then keel over, paws to the sky.

Not every shot is a clean kill. These are pests and reducing their numbers is the goal. Well, my goal is to have fun, but the landowner who granted me permission has the goal of reducing numbers so I shoot as many as I can. In some of the clips, dogs cans be seen running to and fro and there are often multiple dogs in the image. Lots of dogs, nearly infestation level. I've been warring on them at this spot for about 5 years and it doesn't seem to hurt their numbers much. Or if it does, it'd be scary to see how many there were if I hadn't been shooting them.

Just guessing, I'd say most of the shots in the vid are 75-125yards, but there are some as far as 175-180ish, and I think I even left in a 195yard shot.

The slugs used are the NSA .20/18.9grain. The Condor is shooting them @ an average speed of 850fps, making that just a hair over 30fpe at the muzzle. Many might say underpowered but there are houses beyond the brushy hill I'm shooting against, so low power is required here.

You'll notice I'm often not using the exact holdover point suggested by the ballistics program in the PARD DS35. This is due to either shooting into the wind, being under the pressure window for the gun, and most often because the laser rangefinder snagged a piece of brush between me and the intended target so the distance isnt exact.

2 ish hrs condensed into 6 minutes and I don't even know how many prairie dogs....40-50 maybe? Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed the shooting.

(The annoying clickety click sound is the buttons on the PARD, I suggest watching it without sound).

❓Are there any NVD's (Night Vision Devices) with TURRETS?

❓Are there any NVD's (Night Vision Devices) with TURRETS?

I just took a poke at a pigeon with a sub-12 gun, at 75m.
Strelok spit out a holdover of 8.3mil.

But the Zulus 5-20x only gives me about 4mil holdover when at 20x.

🔶 Yupp, I know some comments that might be coming now:
▪ Don't shoot that far!
▪ Use a higher powered gun!
▪ Dial down the magnification to 10x!

Sorry, not helpful.... 🤷🏻‍♂️

🔶 Now, if this was the version with the LRF the crosshairs would simply adjust to the range and I could just shoot without holdover. Granted.
But I really like my turrets — I'm a hard core turret dialer..... 😵‍💫 (Can you see how even my eyes are swirling and turning, just like my scopes' turrets....?!)

❓ So: Are there any NVD with turrets, or buttons, to adjust elevation on the fly without having to go through 3 or 4 level-deep menus?

Thanks for your input... — I'm new to this night vision stuff.... 😊

They are built high quality and very accurate. This one has several custom parts that you won't find on any other Uragan 2. Barrel tensioner system is threaded and vented. Tensioner increases ridgity and reduced barrel harmonics. I had the carbon fiber shroud made, Its lightweight and it's extremely quiet with Donnyfl.

HW/Weihrauch  Who shoots 22 Weihrauchs at 50 yards or more?

I'm collecting information to help diagnosis my lousy results at 50 yard with my 22 Weihrauchs.

If you shoot your 22 caliber Weihrauch at 50 yards (or more) can you please tell me...

1) what is your AVERAGE group size? I say again AVERAGE. Don't be afraid to be truthful. Mine in 22 is around two inches.
2) What pellets work best for you?
3) Which rifle at what FPE?

Thank you. This information may help me figure out what I'm doing wrong with my 22 Weihrauchs at longer ranges.

Thanks
Be well
Ron.

Carbon Fiber Craze

A couple of years ago I recall a few members wrapping their reservoirs and barrels with carbon fiber wrap. It was novel at the time. Some did a very good job with theirs. Then more members were doing it and I thought, “Well if you like it, good for you.” Now manufacturers are shipping guns that look like DIY cosmetic jobs that hobbyists were doing in years past. I for one don’t like the look on my guns. That’s just my preference.

My questions are, do any members know if the carbon fiber seen on modern air rifles (aside from the carbon fiber bottles on bottle guns) serves any purpose besides maybe protecting the metal from scratches or protecting the finish? If it’s not a carbon fiber air reservoir, does wrapping it in a carbon fiber wrap have an added benefit to the reservoir? I’m asking because I don’t know.

N/A  What is your "coolest" springer...?

Just speaking for myself, it's probably this one: a Diana Model 50b in .177 that is new to me but has seen plenty of use, and is still tight and accurate. It comes from a time when factory made meant produced by seasoned pro's and still involved plenty of personal skill. There are many things you can't see in the pic - the most excellent rear sight (removed to make room for the Weaver K3-W), the four post front sight, the still airtight fitment of the loading tap (!), the contoured and checkered underlever, the 3 ball bearing trigger, etc. Leather seals and all, it is a truly fine rifle that really does it for me. I wish I had been alive when they were new, to have bought one in each caliber!

So, it's show-and-tell time.... whatcha got?

Squirrel Opener

Today was our squirrel opener in MD. 80 degrees. Could have been worse, but the mosquitos were tearing me up! Called it quits one short of my bag limit because of the bugs.

Mix of head and body shots since they were scurrying around at various ranges.

And who says those Hades/Atomics don't expand well?? Managed to recover two of them from the body shots. 22 cal Atomics, ~27fpe. Hits em hard. That's what I typically see, but people seem to complain about their expansion. Never had a problem in my gear.

.22 Sleeping pill for another bandit

Gotta lower numbers on these boogers sometimes. Doesn't get much cleaner than this.lights out for 1 of them during their midnight snack the rest are clueless. .22 impact compact at 50 yards. I was using a 16 grain pellet at 1065fps Laser accurate. I like to do something with them, unless they are no good for it. Tanned hide for a wall hanger .

State Laws on hunting with airguns.

What are the game laws in your State concerning hunting with an air rifle? Do you know them? Are you sure?

In New Mexico you can't hunt any game animal with air guns except collared dove, squirrel and grouse. There are no other provisions for air rifles.

In prior years you were allowed to shoot mourning and white wing dove with an airgun on your own property during season. The rules change every year. This year there is no mention of that.

.....

Here are the current rules cut and pasted from the official publication.

UPLAND GAME

Legal sporting arms for upland game: Quail and pheasant may be taken with
shotguns and muzzle-loading shotguns fi ring shot, bows, and crossbows. Eurasian
collared-dove, grouse and squirrels may be taken with shotguns firing shot, muzzle-
loading shotguns, rim-fire and muzzle-loading firearms, bows, crossbows and
compressed air guns firing a pellet .177 or larger.

MIGRATORY BIRDS

Legal sporting arms for migratory game birds: Migratory game birds may
be taken with a shotgun fired from the shoulder, provided it is no larger than 10-gauge
and is not capable of holding more than three shells. Migratory game birds also may
be taken with muzzle-loading shotguns firing shot, bow and arrows, and crossbow and
bolts.

......

Notice our law says "compressed air guns". Does that include springers? It's up to interpretation.

If you know the rules in your State post them! Let's find out where it's legal to hunt game with an air rifle.

PCP Rifle  NLA Rare Gun - RTI Prophet II Performance "Tuned by Francisco 2.0" W/Extras

NO LONGER FOR SALE, KEEPING IT...

This is a Rare gun priced to sell

This is a Very special gun of mine that is absolutely killing me to list, trust me if there was Any way I could afford to keep it I damn sure would, but at the moment I need the cash unfortunately.

This is one of the Tuned by Francisco Special Edition guns
These sell for a little over $3000.00 New.

This is off the RTI Website
This is Francisco's setup that he uses for long-range shooting - it is ideally suited for shooting from the bench. To achieve maximum accuracy, he went for selected RPB Barrels in 600mm, added some help from KLS with their bench pad and bag rider, and threw in the rail extension for the bipod, which is well fixed to the airgun, preventing "wobbling". You can also use it on the shooting bag, which is part o this kit. An extra plenum is added to increase the (already quite large) plenum volume, hard rubber grips for the bolt handle (+ergonomics) and the Hush suppressor is there to keep down the Prophet's bark.

Other features are standard of the Prophet II Performance, but they are nonetheless worth mentioning as they improve the capabilities of the Prophet II: extended stock with adjustable hammer spring, adjustable regulator, and carbon fiber bottle.

The Gun is in Excellent condition and is an unbelievable shooter, it is a .22 caliber and currently dialed in with 25.4 and 28.55 pellets

Pyramid Refurbished Air Tank.

So after a suggestion here made by a Member, instead of Buying a Used tank from Ebay for less than $100.00, I went ahead and ordered a Refurb 90 ci tank from Pyramid. It looked to be in Great shape. The paint on the neck of the bottle has some scratch marks "probably from being removed" but otherwise looked great. The Fresh New Seal is there stating that it had been thoroughly tested to 7500 PSI is there and ready to be Refilled! Yayy Me! Unfortunately It loses 1000 Psi overnight. Now using a Small Pump to air it up is time consuming. From empty it took over several hours only filling to a certain Temp and then allowing time for the pump to cool down. Now I was Told when I ordered it that "It will be all ready to go! You have a Pump and the Correct Filters so Air it up and Have Fun!" I did that. And it Leaks. So back it goes. I am waiting to hear now from the usual commentors about how I somehow "Misinterpreted" what I was told? LOL How could it have passed a 7500 PSI Certification and not been diagnosed with a leak? Riddle Me that! lol
I hope that "Balanza Tres" approves this message.

Airgun Technologies  Vulcan 3 newbie

Morning all,

Newbie to the world of PCP’s here. After a few years of shooting springers I’ve treated myself to a Vulcan 3/500mm/0.177 UK sub 12 ft/lb’er.

Unfortunately I was feeling the cocking action and stupidly double loaded and subsequently blew the breach seal out.

Is it a case of stripping the top of the rifle off and installing the new seal with a dental hook and bit it fiddling, or do I need to de gas the rifle and remove the barrel to access it please?

I appreciate this is super simple stuff to you guys, however I’m wanting to learn the right way and believe you should always ask before jumping straight in.

Many thanks.
