I think I can't hunt anymore

I used to really enjoy hunting, but now I get frustrated of shooting small animals. I used to drive an hour and a half every weekend with my partner to hunt, mostly small game (mostly squirrels). At that time, I dreamed of having a backyard and putting some food in there to attract small animals and then hunt them, like many Youtubers do. Now I have such conditions, but I feel sad about hunting them and wathc them diying. I don't know what makes me changed, but I still love to shoot. I only have a distance of 15 yards (from my back door) and 30 yards (from my front door). What kind of shooting challenges should I do to get more fun? Thanks guys.

Skout  Scout EVO - My first impressions

I ordered my Evo on a Thursday and it shipped on Monday. They have their 10% off till Jan 6th, plus no sales tax and on mine the did not charge shipping. I didn't order the fancy case but in did come in a nice case. When I opened the case I was really impressed on how it looked, but on close inspection the cheek rest had busted (came unglued). I emailed skout about it and said I could epoxy it back together. But 1/2 hour later I had an email with tracking number for a new one. I upgraded to the LW 22 cal, 25" pellet and slug barrel. Also got the 580 CC Tank and Evo rail kit.

I did not change any of the factory setting except I change to a release trigger, IT IS GREAT. I have developed a mental block squeezing the trigger. Even though my other gun had a 4 oz trigger my mind felt like I was pulling 4 lbs.. The release trigger mad shooting fun again.

On my old rifle I would take a shot and a little later I could not remember in I had cocked the gun for the next shot. The Evo has a yellow light when not cocked that changes to red when cocked. Just a little thing but much appreciated.

These pictures are using the settings from the factory except for the release trigger. The on of the rifle is in my bench rest configuration. It has a box on the front that fits the open window but seals out the cold from outdoors. The shed is heated to around 75 degrees and you get an awful mirage from the scope without it being in the box with cold air.

The next two are shot string and chart. Notice on the shot string the outside air is 29.1 degrees

This is one of the first targets I shot at 50 yards. Never had a air rifle group like this direct from the factory

This one is indexing the barrel

I am looking forward to tuning it. I am 78 years old and shoot at least 100 shots almost every day. I would not hesitate to by again if needed.

FX  Whats the point of the FX Impact Compact?

I've noticed that many people are opting for the compact version and then adding a moderator to reduce the noise, effectively making it the same length as the standard 600mm barrel.

However, this approach also means sacrificing some air cylinder capacity, which could end up being more expensive in the long run than simply purchasing the standard model from the start.

Could someone explain if there are any other factors that might influence the decision to choose the compact version over the standard one? It's worth mentioning that the compact model doesn't come with a moderator when purchased new, either.

A HUGE THANK YOU Dr. Mike!!

Just joined the forum to give a big shoutout and thank you to Dr. Mike (Mikelo123 I believe is his username).

Doc does a tremendous amount of work with the local Veteran community, both through some community organizations as well as on his own.

I have been going on fun shoots and hunts with Mike for a few years now and as the group has expanded so has the graciousness and selflessness of Doc.

Me and others truly owe him our lives, I can 100% say without question or reservation without him I would not be here today and I know others who would echo that.

I know he hates being in the spot light and am sure when he sees this he will yell at me to delete it but just wanted others to truly know the work he does and how much it has affected so many for the better.

We were out a week or so ago and as we headed back to town stopped for lunch and when we came out his truck tailgate was down and 12 airguns/scopes/ammo/air tanks etc. gone. Insult to injury his insurance company basically said sorry but not much we can do. In typical Mike fashion he just shrugged his shoulders and said “Well guess this is why God created American Express”. It was heart breaking to see something like this happen to someone who does nothing but try and give back (ALL of it out of his own pocket I might add) so just wanted to get this out there so others know how good of a man he is and how much he has truly helped as I know, even though he will never admit it a guy giving so much just to have something like this happen really hit him hard.

If you can reach out and just say hi to Doc tonight, (Mikelo123) I know he would appreciate it…

Appreciate the time everyone,

Good Night.

Other  Let's see your custom airgun parts

For much of my life I've been of the belief that custom parts are silly. More expensive and often without any functional advantage. But in recent I've done a total 180 on that belief. I see the art in custom work. Maybe some have no functional advantage but looking cool is enough sometimes. ;) So lets see your custom parts.

I'll start. I'm a sucker for anodized titanium. This is a custom cocking knob for an Airmak Arms Krait Lite. Really enjoying the gun BTW.

Benjamin  Marauder Pistol Huma Regulator install issues

Working on installing a Huma regulator for dad in his p-rod. It’s not going smoothly.

Dad wants the reg installed without the pressure gauge. No matter what I try, the plenum doesn’t want to seal without the pressure gauge assembly installed. Another post on this forum suggested pressurizing the gun and dry firing 20x in order to get the seals set. Tried that several times. reversed the plenum. No luck. Still more than a little air escaping the hole for the gauge.

Instructions say a spacer may or may not be present behind the pressure gauge. I don’t see it there. If the red metal inside the tube is a spacer, it’s not coming out. The surface on which the plenum o-ring should seal looks scratchy and uneven, so not surprised it’s leaking.

installing the reg and plenum with the pressure gauge in place, with front o-ring removed, works. Only get a few shots before cylinder pressure drops below reg pressure, so it’s hard to tune.
dad wants more than 700fps, which sounds reasonable enough. Increased reg pressure from about 130 to about 140 bar. Started with minimal hammer spring tension and worked up. Still get no more than 620fps even with hammer spring turned all the way up, at which point things go wonky. Also tried increasing hammer throw distance which didn’t do much of anything.

If anyone can suggest how to get the reg installed without the pressure gauge, that would be amazing. Can work on tuning from there. I know it’s a matter of getting everything balanced and working together. Left a voicemail with AOA, who might not be available until monday.

Airforce  TalonP/Escape... Lets See Those Shot Strings

Recently got a renewed interest in AirForce guns and picked up a lightly used TalonP. Had planned on putting a larger tank on it (and may one day, who knows?) but pleasantly surprised with the small tank.

It came with a .25 barrel and I threw on an 18 inch .22 barrel I had laying around. My goal was around 800fps using the 25.39gr JSB Monsters. After some inspiration and guidance from @Mike_Lenardon on what what possible on these little guns, the weather broke enough today for me to do a string.

.166 top hat with o ring behind it, 18 inch, .22 barrel, JSB Monsters, 8-1 PW. As you can see, I filled to 2600psi, but should probably only fill to 2200 or so. Still, an impressive string if I do say so myself. Definitely happy with the results. A rough sight in later had me grouping really well out to 40 yards and acceptable at 50. Very well could tighten up those groups. I wasnt even using a rear bag, just a rough sight in.

While at it, had threw together a little 18 inch barrel .177 with a micrometer tank on another Talon and was getting around 600fps with 8.44 gr. I'm not sure if I'll keep that configuration or change it up but I do know the TalonP will not be changed at this point.

RWS  D34 Barrel Jam

My first post. Please be gentle... I have a RWS Diana 34 from 1985 which is still like new. It's been a great rifle and has served me well. Pellets started to hang in the barrel recently. This had never occurred so I was somewhat surprised. I thoroughly cleaned the barrel which made no difference. About every forth pellet would jam. Using my cleaning rod to push a pellet through, I discovered the jam was about 1 1/2" from the muzzle. This happens to be exactly where my muzzle break set screw contacts the barrel. When pushing a pellet through the barrel all goes well until I hit this spot. Drag goes up significanly which I assume explains the jam. Using a borelight the bore looks pristine. So it appears that tightening the set screw on my muzzle break made a distortion in the barrel creating the tight spot??? This is very hard for me to believe this would cause the problem. Any ideas from you guys on what may be going on here?

Questioning the safety of inline water filters

So I have a gx cs4 compressor on the way. I've spent way to much time reading about adding an inline water filter between the compressor and gun/tank. My question is the safety of these amazon filters that have been mentioned. I don't see pressure ratings for the filters. If the compressor is capable of building to 5800psi can these inline filters handle the pressure? I'm concerned with the filter and fittings they come with. Should I be concerned and what are the current go to inline filters for the cs4 that are safe?

Thanks

FX  Brand new Crown Continuum MKII with issues...

Hi guys.
In July I got myself a Crown Continuum MKII. The gun sat still in the box for 3 months, as I was working abroad. Came back, got an Element Titan scope to fit in it, installed the scope on the gun and back to the box, without ever being cocked or shot once.
A few days ago, I finally had my days off to go shooting. Got a couple of guns out and the crown. For my surprise, and a bad one, when I tried to cock the gun there was little to no resistance on the cocking lever as it moves backwards (which I found weird, and immediately removed the magazine before loading a single pellet), and the trigger, on safety or fire mode, was as stiff as it can be. No matter what I do, the trigger barely moves, can't pull it backwards.
Anyone has any guess regarding what might be going on?
Is it possible that the gun came already cocked from the store and some springs or something on the mechanism got stuck somehow?
I'm even more worried of the gun already being cocked, since I lowered both the front and rear power adjuster settings to the minimum to start tinkering, which could potentially damage the valve assembly and the wheel...which would screw the warranty...
The bloody gun has never seen a single pellet in it's barrel or even been dry fired.
I'm trying to get a hold of the store owner and hear what he has to say. In the mean time, I'm trying to understand what is happening.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Best,
Pedro

PCP Rifle  SOLD Dream Valve and bottled Notos sale or trade

Alrighty! Up for sale or trade again is my Notos. I originally traded it to Ocpgunner95 for his Gauntlet30 SL, and it's made it's way back to me. Below I've attached a few of my old posts, the gun still shoot the same as before hole on hole with premiers at 40yds, gets over 100 shots per fill.

The only difference now is that it has spacers at each end to fit the FX stackable mod and a few scratches at the nut in the back.
It will come with 5 Tango Sierra mags and 3 oem mags, but no scope or mod cover.

Looking to sell for $350 shipped, or trade for a compact scope like the 3-12x44 FFP discovery or a 4-16x44 Vector veyron IR FFP.

Thanks for looking!

AliExpress Bargain, Day Night Optic

I got to hunting through AliExpress to find the cheapest, yet usable Night Vision, I came up with this $250 option and a $60 dollar option, I ordered both I got the cheaper one tha fastest the other was a week longer to ship.
Here is some videos on my findings to date. So far I find both usable with the $250 dollar option being better than first gen ATN offerings.
There are a few options of each model, I choose the middle of the road ones :)
$60

  • Question
Barrels and slugs

Hi
I have a Hatsan 125 air rifle which loves Barracuda 21.14gr and Gamo competition 21.75gr pellets both great around 40 yards, putting holes accurately through a metal plate.

My Mrs got me several tins of different pellets and slugs to try for Christmas:

The JSB Match jumbo 15.89gr which seems a bit flighty at longer distance.

Also a tin of H&N slu HP which are .218 27gr. These fit very tightly into the barrel and the rifle makes a harder sound when I tried them. Is it safe to use them? I'm new to slugs.

Also she got a tin of JSB Knockout slugs 25.39gr .216 which just fall out of the barrel if I'm not careful closing it as they are very loose. Is it worth shooting these?

Thanks for any advice.
Happy new year

Airforce  More Big Bore Decisions

Hoping you Folks are up for a couple "what if's?"

I have seen good reviews on the 451 Megalodon. It's a pump action. (and more money!) 8 good shots per fill, excellent accuracy.

And the 357 Rattler. Seems to get Raves as an all around gun.

Still leaning towards AF Texan LSS Upgrade with fiber tank in 457.

And finally, is there that much difference in performance between a LSS and an SS Texan? I measured out the length with a tape measure. Wow!

I read a forum post here where the young man, 30 ish I think, wants to buy his "One and Done " gun. He was advised that he was young,
Don't lock yourself in for one gun. Well, I'm old, so this will most likely be the last Airgun.

That's why I am agonizing here, Sorry.

Can someone recommend an article or info on dealing with the heat as I live in OK.

Should I be leary of buying a used scuba-type tank. I'm not into buying a bomb!

TIA

Ken

Notos...1 Shot / 2 Quail @ 45yards

Lucky shot, should have waited till the quail stopped moving.

I was out with my better half testing out her new tripod. She's shooting her Vulcan 3 in .30cal shooting 1" groups @ 50 yards (normally she will shoot 1" groups at 100 yds with bipod and bag, 1st time on tripod so it will tighten up. And also getting some archery in....

Anyway, noticed some quail walking by and just so happened I had my Notos in the jeep. Actually missed the one I was aiming at, I miss judged the distance. This was zeroed at 50 yds and quail were @ 42yds (ranged after the fact) so I hit about 1.5 mils high. Another quail walked into it and hit him high in the neck the into the back of one behind him.

Well, was a Good Day!

Grateful I can shoot whenever I want and not have my other half complain I'm gone shooting all the time, if anything she'll join me :)

Only downside is whenever I want to buy a new toy she gets one also...spend twice as much but she's more than worth it!

Stir fry with a side of quail
