Stoeger  How low can a PCP regulator be set

New PCP shooter with a Stoeger XM1 scout .22. I'm having a lot of fun with this guy but have been asked to help a friend out with pests in her barn. I'm wondering if there is a limit to just how low a regulator can be set on this carbine? I don't want to ventilate her barn and will be testing with some scrap material but I've never adjusted a regulator before. Not sure if it's even possible to get down to what I need to be at. My guess would be under 400fps.

FX  DRS PRO - what stocks fit it?

So I pulled an FX DRS pro (action only) from UtahAir, and I am trying to find a decent stock for it. I started with the Saber Tactical, but that doesn't seem to actually fix the DRS PRO, with lower trigger - it would bind the trigger so it wouldn't move when the stock was tightened down. Also had a tiny 14" LoP and was non adjustable. I had hoped UA would ship a usable gun, but it would not even fire as shipped - they installed the action into the chassis with the trigger shoe binding so it wouldn't move, the safety stuck on fire - and once those were resolved with some tinkering, the base of the trigger binds up with the stock is tightened down. I really hoped UA would have shipped a usable gun, but they completely dropped the ball here. The saber tactical went back as "doesn't fit".

Next up is the Delta Force stock. What a waste of $1000. None of the cutouts actually connect to anything - they are not MLOK. The "top rail" isn't actually a rail you can mount anything on, It feels like it weights about 80lbs, and it has these mysterious useless rubber sections on the bottom - UA couldn't even tell me what those are for. So unless I need to use it for a club, this one is out. I don't know why they even bother selling this.

I'm not buying an MDT stock, those are ridiculously overpriced (even for someone willing to drop $$ on an FX gun).

Next - question, does the walnut stock fit the DRS Pro? Are there any other lighter weight options out there that I haven't seen yet? I can't seem to find any of the aeron cz chassis in stock.

Results  Southwest Airgunners Silhouette and Field Target Match Reports, Duncan AZ April 2025

Tom again opened his property up to allow a bunch of airgun nuts to have a heck of a weekend full of airguns. He is greatly appreciated for doing so and I think I'll start there with this match report. Tom was presented with a token of our appreciation for his generosity and hospitality. Here he is receiving that recognition. THANK YOU TOM!!!

In the past Tom has fed us a meal or two, and I think that's maybe what's happening here...Thanks Tom!

Rex also asked that I express appreciation to Franz, Ed, and Kent for helping him tear down the course. And to Steve for spending a long afternoon setting the course on Thursday. Here's one of Steve up a tree.

Now, on to the events.

Pistol silhouette match on Friday afternoon.
We shoot at the little 10m silhouettes, using our sub12fpe field target pistols, and any legal field target position, most use the bucket/stool and sticks position. This is one of the 4 bank in the next photo, three shooters per heat...each shooter uses only one color. Targets at 15, 20, 25, and 3/ yards Total of 40 possible points, it's an all or none situation, not a speed event. You get 40 pellets to knock down 40 animals. Miss or hit, just one shot per animal. Those tiny little chickens (take a look at how big those .177 splats are, relative to the size of the chicken) get tough, with only 12 fpe. But it's a fun challenge!
pistol silhouettes.jpg

There were 6 pistol silhouette shooters.
Steve Q -40 (a perfect score! NICE Steve!!!)
Rex J - 38
Ed B - 36
Kent G - 34
Andrew W - 32
Franz D - 31

Rifle Silhouettes After Dark on Friday Evening
Next came the rifle silhouettes. Very similar format to the pistol, but with our sub 20 field target rifles. Slightly bigger animals, and banks at 50, 60, 70, 80 yards.
This was the first time we've done it with lights. Short days still, and trying to squeeze a bunch into a weekend, and potentially more forgiving wind created the in-the-dark situation.

Had 8 shooters participate in this event....
Rex J - 34
Steve Q - 33
Andrew W - 31
Tom H - 29

Kent G - 25
Franz D - 23

Saturday Morning Field Target
This is a standard AAFTA style match, with everyone shooting with guns under 20fpe. 10 lanes, with 3 shots per lane, two shots per target, for a 60 shot match. No force standing or kneeling shots. Most chose to shoot in the Hunter class.
The course stats...(red is the highest Troyer, green is the lowest, yellow is the overall course Troyer).
course stats.jpg

From the couple of guys that reported the difficulty level...it was a tough one. And it doesn't sound like the wind was kind. Rex said this about the conditions. "Wind from every direction, gusty at times and moments now and then when it would kinda quit. But most of the time it was breezy. High was around 78." These matches in the river bottom include targets up in trees and down below the shooters up on the river banks. Lots of variation in target placement, and really enjoyable/challenging matches to shoot.

Here is how they fared...

And the top shooters from the field target competition...

My understanding is that there were a handful of first-timers. Which is always good to see. Judging by the smiles in all the photos, I think they might have just been able to see just how fun this field target game can be.

Thanks for all who attended. Thank you to those that sent me photos and impressions of the match.
And thanks to Rex for creating this opportunity in what was otherwise an airgun desert. He's got a heck of a turnout for such a young club, and many of us "regulars" had schedule conflicts and weren't able to be part of the fun this weekend.

Here's most of the attendees this month:

NorCal Turkeys down on the Opener

Took advantage of the small weather window on Saturday to do some turkey hunting. As usual, SteveO and I started by parking up high on a hill and listening to the birds waking up everywhere. You could hear so many flocks calling that you couldn't tell where they were coming from or how many (this is somewhat normal here as the bird population is insane and it's 100% private land everywhere in the area) It was still very early at 6:30am and the sun wasn't even close to peaking over the mountain yet. We listened for a bit and then decided to split up. I took my truck and went to the west side of the property. That section is relatively open, but it has draws and fingers that lead off into treelined canyons. I prefer to hunt turkeys like deer via spot and stalk. I like to move much more than sitting in a blind calling. I DO call, but often it's just to locate the birds. SteveO hit the east side, which is dominated by a year-round spring creek in a steep canyon.

I was hoping to get down into the Turkey Grotto...a single 100-yard-long tree line on the ranch that seems to be a turkey magnet. I didn't see any birds when I reached the ridge top in my truck, which was not surprising for how early it was. I DID hear them everywhere though in the draw about a 1/4 mile below me. This draw is over the property line on a neighboring ranch, but birds cover so much ground that they come and go all day. I have a tree stand erected in the single tree that's in this open section. I was hoping to get there undetected and then decide whether get up in it and do some calling or keep moving down towards the Grotto. As I got close to the stand, I saw a tom walking and strutting in the little dip about 75 yards below the stand. He saw me (they always do) and slowly made his way out of sight and down to the safety on the canyon. No use getting in the stand now, so I just kept working my way down further towards the grotto.

I hadn't made it 20 yards when I caught movement in front of me. I saw a hen's head at about 60 yards; now I know why that tom was strutting. The ground was soaked from rain the day before, but I didn't care. I got down low and scooted forward to stay out of sight. I didn't go 10' and I saw the telltale red head looking at me. I froze and stayed where I was at. The tom puffed back up and then I saw he with a flock of hens. Even though he noticed me, he ignored it and went back to strutting. I spun around to sitting position and got the FX MKIII .22 700mm into a good shooting position with a knee rest. I'm zeroed at 75 yards and shooting 31.2 gr. NSA slugs, so this was a perfect scenario as long as I did MY job. If I'm not hunting with a big bore (which I have), I do not take body shots. Far too many birds have escaped through the years. So, I committed to head/neck-shot-only before I even left the house; basically, traded raw horsepower for pinpoint accuracy. That being said, I had to wait a long time for the bird hold still and to get the right angle. Thank goodness he was reasonably distracted. For a good while he was either turned away fanning or obscured by fence posts, barbed wire, and tall grass. I passed up a few 'okay' chances and waited until I was comfortable, and everything was right, and then made the shot. He dropped like a sack of potatoes and with the exception of some flapping, never moved. Bird down at 7:15am opening day!!! Now for the work. It's a long way back uphill to the truck in wet/tall grass and adobe clay. I'm older than I'd like to admit and still have my 'winter layer' of fat. I won't complain though...packing out turkeys is way more fun than a treadmill. Once back at my truck, it was off to find SteveO and see how he was faring.

Steve had been perusing the creek section and could hear birds. He ended up seeing the 'periscope heads' and put in a stalk. As he got closer, the long necks and heads turned out to Canadian geese that decided to venture to the creek bottom, lol. We met up on the road and decided to return to northwest corner of the property, on the rim above the bowl where I had killed my bird. This is not a great place to 'kill' a bird, but the vantage point is unmatched with how far you can see. Not only can one see everything around the immediate area, but also for than mile in just about every direction. Birds were visible at various places in the distance, both at our level, down the mountain, and up the mountain. We noticed a group of hunters on the property below that were working their way into a section where there were a lot of birds. They were @ 500-600 yards below us, and I had a hunch that maybe they would 'push' birds up towards us. At any rate, we were where we needed to be to be able to 'glass for turkeys' and then put in a stalk and we were good with that.

It was windy and cold as heck up on the ridge, so I (being that I had my bird already) sat in the heated truck and glassed for a while. SteveO moved around the ridgeline to a couple of different vantage points and did the same. We continued to hear birds gobbling, and one particular gobble seemed to be getting closer. SteveO had noticed this too and had taken cover standing behind a lone power pole (use what's available) and made a couple of calls. He started to get the look of a dog on point, and sure enough here comes two toms right out of the draw below us. They were about 200 yards out, and SteveO made his move to get into position for a shot. I stayed in the truck and didn't get out until both he and the birds were out of sight. I knew where he was going; he dropped over the rise to little gap in the hills that funnels game. We've seen birds use this highway innumerable times, mostly to our disadvantage. Today was different, and SteveO made a brilliant game-time decision. Once I was confident that I wouldn't ruin anything, I got out and made my way up to a high spot to watch. I knew where SteveO went, but didn't know EXACTLY where he was set up. I watched the birds make their way up the hill and sure enough, they tracked right to where he expected. The two toms reached the gap, and I kept waiting for the shot from SteveO's .357 Bulldog. Just then they stopped and had that worried look. CRACK/thunk! I saw the first bird flopping and running out of sight. The other stood for a second wondering what happened and then took off like Usain Bolt back down to where he came from. Then I heard a second shot. I was hoping that was nothing more than a security shot on a not-dead-yet bird vs. trying to stop a missed or wounded & running bird.

I took my time and went back to the truck and drove down the hill to where SteveO was at. Sure enough, he'd set up in a perfect spot in some rocks. The bird was dead in the gap and he was making his way down. It had been trying to get to its feet after the first body shot, so he wisely put another one in him and that did it. This is I believe the first time that we both got birds at the same time. The number of times that we SHOULD have had two birds is laughable, but variables always prevented it. So here we were, @ 9:00am and both of us with NorCal airgun turkeys.

What a way to kick of the 2025 turkey season! However, things went from an incredible high to a shocking low in a hurry. It involves a medical emergency which is still evolving, and perhaps some amazing luck (that remains to be seen) fate and circumstances. If you've made it this far into this story, please think happy thoughts for my friend and project some good vibes westward. I will update later but now is not the right time. Regardless of how terrifying the way yesterday ended, I don't want that to diminish or cloud over the amazing morning that we had. It's a reminder to us all to cherish every moment in the outdoors, because you just never know when life will change your best laid plans.

Love you, Bro. We'll be back it again soon, I hope.

FX  FX IMPACT M4 - Hammer Upgrade

I am currently tuning my M4 Impact to shoot 37gr Zans. I recently upgraded my hammer to the Huma Air 8.5-gram hammer and changed the pellet probe and hammer spring.

In the first instance, I achieved great results with slugs going 935- 955fps with my reg set between 120-125. Then I realized I forgot to change the valve spring upgrade and the rubber ball. When I added these, the speed dropped drastically to 830 even with my reg pressure up at 145.

I changed back to the original stock valve spring, and it's back up at 935 with reg pressure 120. which I'm happy with.

I don't understand how the lighter spring upgrade and the rubber ball cause such a drop in speed.

Do I need the rubber with the valve spring with an 8.5-gram human air hammer?

Other  Arrow slinger - help me decide

Now that I have the main gun, tank, compressor, hand pump etc lol I’ve decided I might as well get something that shoots arrows and one of the members here recommended getting one of the big bores so it’s at least dual purpose…which makes sense.

I’m leaning towards a 45 or 50cal but I’m open to persuasion on a 357 as well.

Here are my top choices in order but if I’m missing something by all means let me know!

1. Western bush pig
2. Air Force texan
3. Umarex hammer
4. Airbow M600 (not dual purpose)
5. Western rattler 457 (rather not spend $3k)

Thanks for any input!

Umarex  New User with New Hammer

Hey all,

Long time Airgunner but new here... I just got a new Umarex Hammer and found that the bottle appears loose... It turns and wiggles... Wondering if I should simply try to tighten this or if this could be a blessing since the bottle might easily be removed and upgraded...

Anyone have any experience with this kind of issue?

Thanks,

Jim

Brand new CS4-i won't pump beyond 1800psi

Need the Groups help. I have a brand new CS4-i that I setup, dead head tested to 4500psi, and have used to fill guns 3x. Today I hooked it up to my Marauder... and once it reached 1800psi, I felt a slight "bump" in the hose, and it wouldn't pump past that point. There's really not much of a "manual" that came with it. and if I must. It's well within the return/replacement window (I bought it off Amazon for that very reason)

If it's anything more than a super easy fix, it's getting drained, boxed back up, and returned for a replacement.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Now I'm gonna go revist/shoot the Maurader for a bit. will update everyone on that experience too.

Decibal Test Results, Need Input Please

Had the family over to do a sound test. Thought I would find the quietest of mods for my Notos. All I got was a little confused or got a little information clarified. I'll describe what we did and attach the results. Looking for input on doing a better test structure please.

A gentleman was very kind and sent me a box full of various mods for the Notos. Our goal was to see which one was the quietest. What we found was that most of the mods are very close to each other in decbal readings. We had a decibal meter directly under the exit of the mod. and then one 10 feet forward and 10 feet to the right. The third position was 10 feet back and 10 feet to the left. All were on the same plain as the Notos. I always thought the stock unit was fairly quiet, I have some hearing issues. But I put the first test subject on and took a shot. I definitely heard less "noise" from the Notos. This noise reduction turned out to be repeated with all my family members but for different mods. However, the decibal readings were all within points of each other. A bit confusing. We thought there would be a noticable, varifiable reduction on the meters, and there really wasn't. Are mods just modifying different tones, and we hear or don't hear a tone based on what that specific mods eliminates from its sound production?

Our goal was not to pick at any manufacturer of named product out there. We truly were just looking for quietest. So hopefully no one will take offense.

Our summary is that all the mods produced similar decibal readings. However, each mod reduced various portions of noise produced with each shot. So it came down to who was listening to it and what they heard versus what they considered loud. It seems to all be based on subjectivity.

The variables we had: 4-5 mph tail wind, turkey gobbling, driving cars about 50 yards away, noisey Jays, more stuff along those lines.

We did notice that if we waited for a reduction of wind, there was definitely and effect in the decibal reading, slightly higher.

What I have come up with for a new test approach is to get a 4 inch ABS or the like T. Place it in a box and surround it with insulation. Place the decibal meter in the bottom opening of the T and shoot through the T to hopefully get a more consistent and repeatable reading with much reduced outside interference.

Would really appreciate any and all suggestions in an effort to clear up the confusion. Is there really very little difference between decibel readings of mods? Or, was our first test flawed due to the variables?

Will have to work on the attachment. Doesn't seem to want to attach as an Excel or snipped from Excel. Will post the results as soon as I figure this out.

Thanks

Need a lightweight target rifle

Evening everyone,

Friday I did a bit of target practice for the first time since October. First shooting of any kind actually. It went well and I felt I wouldn’t embarrass myself at this morning’s match. I was right, shot my best score ever but still didn’t make the finals, no surprise. The younger shooters are VERY good, they do the work and it shows. I have two very good target rifles and they are outstanding but a bit heavy. Does anyone make a rifle in .177 that can use a peep site and weighs under 7 pounds? I need an excuse to buy another rifle.

Rick H.

Benjamin  This is addicting.

I bought 2 Kratos and a Akela to add to my Avenge X with all three cal barrels. Airgun Revisions is a GREAT company!! He is a great man! He took the time to call me back when I had questions and answered them all and more. The Akela shots like it has a regulator and is really accurate! The Kratos shoot the same. Thank you for your advice!!

.177 Pellets for hunting

what ranges are reasonable to make quick and clean work of Squirrel-dove-chipmunks?

for 10.3,13.4 even 15.9/16gr. ive taken squirrel close to 90y with 15.9 pellets in .22 but the additional frontal surface area does make a difference, does it not?

I probably don't even need to ask this: will a .177 15.9gr hitting a pigeon at 900fps be as effective as a .22 in the same exact weight?

N/A  Looking for a compact .22 PCP for woods walking

Hello,

I'm looking for a compact .22 PCP for woods walking and hunting small game (Squirrels & rabbits). Farthest I'll shoot would be probably 80 yards. Most shots would be 25-50 yards. I have decided on a bullpup style air gun. I would like to shoot 18.13gr and possibly shoot up to 23gr at 900fps (Pellets mostly and some slugs). I would like 40+ full regulated shots before refilling. OAL length is <27", give or take 1/2 inch, and with no moderator included on the OAL. I'd prefer 6-7 lbs without a scope or any add-ons (Again, give to take 1/2 lb). I would prefer not to tinker with the gun. Leave it for a few months then shoot it with the same POI. Listed below are some of my considerations/opinion on why I might go/not go with a gun. Let me know if there's an air gun that falls into this category that I didn't list.

In consideration:
AirMaks Arms Krait Standard .22 (My #1 preferred air gun to get at this time. Seems to hit all the check marks with no issues)
KalibrGun Cricket 2 Tactical 45 (A bit heavier that what I'd like. Also read that this gun had issues with the magazines, not easy to tune and adjust the regulator)
RTI Arms Prophet 2.1 (Don't know much about this air gun and will have to do my research)
FX Maverick/Wildcat BT compact (Not a fan of he double regulator as it makes tuning a bit more difficult, plus I already own a Maverick in .25)
Western Sidewinder S Compact (I have one on the way but I don't know how I feel about it yet. It's also in .25)
AGT Uragon 2/3 (Don't know much about these air gun. Will have to do further research)
Edgun Leshiy 2 (Only 8 shots. Everything about the Leshiy is expensive. lol)

No longer in consideration:
Taipan Vet 2 Tact (I really like everything about this gun but the length (Too long) and weight(Too heavy))
RTI Arms P3 (Too long)
AGT Vulcan 3 (Too long, getting to heavy)

As you can see from my list, I enjoy the industrial tactical look. Again, leave me recommendations of air guns to look at. Also tell me to avoid one gun or another. All tips and information is welcome. Thanks!

PCP Rifle  WTS WTS FX Royale 500

Beautiful FX Royale 500 .25 with laminate stock.

Tuned to shoot the 33.95 MK2 at 850 with a new Huma reg, completely resealed less than a week ago, carbon fiber bottle, hammer spring brass lock nut (keeps hammer spring adjuster from backing out) and 3 magazines as well as single shot tray. This gun loves the Hades also so dial it down and shoot them at 889-900 and you will be impressed.

Stock is ambidextrous so righty or lefty you are all set….

Bought this as a hunter for my son to go with his 400 but in the rain and weather out here he decided to go with a synthetic version so this one is moving along, for now… I love these old FX guns so might just decided to add it to my collection.

Asking 950 OBO and split shipping.

Scope, rings, bipod, bottle clamp not included.
