So I finally got my scope mounted and went out to test the gun today! Seems to shoot well but I was pressed for time and it was freezing out so I only shot 10 rounds.

More importantly, as I was outside in good lighting I noticed that there are scratches all over the gun barrel and this is a brand new gun. If it was $300-500 I probably wouldn’t care but on principal, for the kind of money this gun costs I am a little disappointed. There are quite a bit of them… it almost looks like it was either a return or Brocock sent it out like this….

What do you guys thing?! Am I being dramatic for expecting a clean reasonably flawless barrel for $2300? They are hard to see in this lighting and on the camera but they are definitely there and it looks like someone removed the barrel and scratched it up!

Got a decently sized male grey squirrel today, was actually shooting to figure out the trajectory on this Zelos in the woods about 55y behind my house, saw a grey squirrel hop from a pine onto my roof, then him trying to get under the gutter guards. He FAFOd pretty fast. Was skinning him because I enjoy eating them without the fur sometimes.. .

The hydrostatic effect ruptured his thoracic cavity, completely shredded the right lung, perforated and dissected the left, liquified the heart lacerated the liver. Fragmented completely. The base is what exited only flecks of lead recovered. Pics added when I wash everything off

Over the last few weeks we have lost lots of chickens and ducks. My wife went to let the tiny dinos out this morning and found a mangy looking fox by the chicken coop. This lil guy was trying to hide under a trailer. Well the vulcan 3 hp .30 with thermnight got to play with the fox. 63 gr zan hp at 950fps the fox went 4 feet i could not get on the head as i was already sitting on the ground on wet cold ice my butt cold and wet but fox eliminated

My HW50 ,R-9, and CZ634, among others, like the JSB Match Diabolo 8.44,will I just shot the JSB Match Diabolo 8.02 gr. through them, and they like it better.The 8.44 is dome head, and the 8.02 is flat head. Have any of you had similar results?

During the past few days, I participated in a parallax discussion on another thread in this forum. That discussion stimulated a bit of internet research which uncovered some very interesting results.

I've competed in various shooting disciplines over the years with a wide variety of riflescopes ranging from a 6 power Unertl Small Game scope up to Nightforce 15-55 Competition scopes. All this time, I've assumed that parallax error was a function of scope magnification. This seemed reasonable because the 6-8 power scopes had virtually no parallax error while the much higher power scopes required parallax adjustment for every change in distance.

It turns out that I was wrong. Maximum Parallax error is not a function of scope magnification. Rather it is a function of objective lens diameter. And, there is a formula to calculate maximum parallax error given the diameter or the objective lens, the distance at which parallax is zeroed, and the actual distance from muzzle to target.

Background

I wanted an inexpensive bullet-drop reticle scope for NRL-22. I'm old and slow so I chose a fixed 10 power SFP scope with a 40 mm objective. The low power provides for a wide depth of focus so I could set the focus at 70 yards and not have to take the time to refocus with each change in distance from 40 yards to 100 yards. This part works as predicted. I also assumed, incorrectly in retrospect, that the low power would also yield low parallax error from 40 yards to 100 yards. This assumption was incorrect. Zeroing parallax at 70 yards give me a 40 yard maximum parallax error of .806 MOA and a 100 yard maximum parallax error of .302 MOA. These are not insubstantial errors. Fortunately, I'm good at keeping my eye centered in the ocular.
