Shaggin' for BB's

Seem to be trippin' down memory lane today so........

How many of you took off your shoes and walked on your heels through the family room shag carpet to find spilled BB's because you ran out?

I'd spill Golden Bullseyes every time I poured from that yellow cardboard tube into the end of my Daisy 102 and I could usually find enough in the rug for one more hunt until Mom went to the store the next day.

How did you know you were done?

Well, I've been sitting on this post for a while, largely because I didn't want to admit to myself that as much as I thought I could get back into this hobby over the past few years, it just never really happened - and I don't think things are going to change anytime soon.

My wife and I sold our previous property in the woods which had given me the chance to enjoy target practice whenever I wanted, but there's no way I can use my .30 on my half-acre suburbian plot (even with a moderator) without raising eyebrows. Add in shoulder issues (and knee surgery right before Christmas), and I think it's time to move on. By no means is this a pity party - and I know I've been a silent member of the site for a while - but I guess it's more of a realization that as much as I love this sport, I probably have to move on.

Anyone else in a similar situation? I welcome your thoughts and opinions!

Trophy* Pic Thread

Here’s what I propose:
Here is a thread where we can post photos our trophy* pics. Rather than use a tape as the singular measure of a trophy, let’s use “a trophy is measured by the effort involved” as our measure. Of course, your whopper kills pics are welcome too.

Please include the following, because it’s interesting:
1. A short story: Who? What? Where?
2. Equipment used: Gun, caliber, slug/pellet…

SO….Let’s see your iguanazillas, rabbitzillas, jackrabbitzillas, squirrelzillas, coyotezillas, ratzillas, mousezillas, gopherzillas, and any “Zilla” that I’ve neglected. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Little rifle for a little guy

Hi guys, I thought you might enjoy a project I did for a friend's kid. The guy is very small for his age. Really small. He is out in the shooting shack with us all the time.
Absolutely loves it! He was always drawn to my Crosman 160. It's the shortest rifle I have. He asked to shoot it every time he came over. But it was still too big for him.
So I dug out my parts box and built him a tiny Crosman 180. I had an old stock that was damaged anyway so I started cutting to make it fit a tiny person.
Made a new trigger and guard to move the trigger back for tiny hands.
This is the result. He has lots of fun with it now that he fits the rifle much better.

One Piece vs Two Piece...the tale of the tape.

Shot 6 cards this morning with the intention of seeing how scores compare when using a one piece Randolph rest with sandbag top and a typical two piece setup with mechanical front using same top and a rear sand bag.

The saving grace of winter in my part of Colorado is that the cold is often offset by really nice wind. Temps were in the low to mid 20s...but the wind was a pleasant 1-3 mph.

Here are the One piece cards and setup pics.

PCP Rifle  SOLD SPF, Airforce Talon SS .177 $320 shipped.

I have an excellent Airforce Talon SS in .177. Very lightweight with plenty of power. 50yds is not a problem with any heavier pellet. At low power it slings crossmans well out to 40yds also. Accessorries not included but can be discussed. Thank You.

Air gun repair.

I have a Hatsan 125 that I’ve had put away for a few years, decided I’d try and use it to go squirrel hunting. Went to cock it and the break barrel has no resistance and just goes down. Tried taking it apart but couldn’t get the bolt out of the stock. Instead of messing with it, I decided to see if someone knew where I could send it to get serviced. Thanks for the replies.

Firsthand account of a person shot with an air rifle

Fifty years ago, I was shooting with some friends when a 14 YO boy… let’s call him Fred was accidentally shot in the back of his calf with a Sheridan 5MM blue streak. I was 16 YO when this happened. The gun had eight pumps in it and the muzzle was probably less than 2’ from the guy that was shot (I didn’t see him get shot as my back was turned but I was less than 10’ away when it happened).

How it happened is a complicated story that I don’t want get into here but rest assured there was some poor gun handling that led up to the incident.

So, I heard the gun discharge and turned to see Fred on the ground in the fetal position clutching his calf and sort of kicking with his good leg spinning around.

I knew he was shot so I pinned him down and pulled his hands away from his calf. The bottom of his pant leg was soaked in blood. I pulled his pant leg up and saw that he had arterial bleeding coming from the meaty portion of his calf. Every beat of his heart shot a squirt of blood out a good 12” or so. I looked for an exit wound and there wasn’t one but I could see the grey pellet just under his skin. I lightly ran my hand over it and could feel it.

I kept direct pressure over the wound to slow the bleeding and we got Fred to the hospital to get patched up.

Don’t remember much about how Fred was treated but later he did mention they used some sort of a pipe cleaner to clean the wound.

N/A  Why Airguns ? Why is the hook so deep in many of us ?

I just wanted to ask the forum members why they are so deep into this sport/ hobby

For me I was introduced by my cousin Sal. We’d visit when I was a child and ole Sal was a redneck at heart.
He Introduced me to marlin tube fed .22lr and some powerful pellet and BB guns

So the seed was planted and heck I can shoot airguns every day in my yard

I’m 13 PCPs deep now. Progressed from the springer format to the pcp

Lately I shoot every day. Still hooked
What is your experience? How did you get hooked ?

Psychological analysis is encouraged here……

Memories are important so keep that old air gun!

Every time I see a thread picturing an air gun someone still owns after 40 or 50 years I regret all over again tossing my 1974 Sheridan in the trash in the late '80's because I acquired something bigger and better.

There probably aren't many kids reading these forums but 99% of adults here have kids or grandkids. If you have young ones in the family who shoot, don't let them throw their early (especially first) air guns away because they graduate to an "adult" air gun. Keep them for them if you have to.

Past memories will eventually outnumber future dreams 100:1 and they will appreciate being able to hold and look at those old guns, even if they're broken, and relive those memories in their minds.

I wish I still had every one of mine.

Other  Interesting unanimous choice

Yesterday, I hosted three traditional powder burner shooters to shoot springers and pcps via my indoor and outdoor ranges.

We started with them shooting the target you can see below - all on the indoor 18 yard range. Each shooter shot 10 shot groups with each rifle.

When done, they had the opportunity to pick their favorite rifle of the nine to shoot a “wall hanger” target. One of the shooter’s targets is also show below.

They all picked the Weihrauch 100T I had tuned to shoot the H&N Baracuda Match 21.14 Gr pellet. Quite a tribute.

BTW - three shooters who had never shot airguns before shot .014, 015, and .019 10 shot groups at 18 yards.

A lot of fun to witness.

Is it worth buying a hw97k if i already have a hw77k?

I have a .177 hw77k and want 1 more air rifle and that will be it. I don't see the point in getting another .177 as my hw77k is accurate so I want a. 22 or. 20.
I wanted a TX200 HC or a pro sport but now I'm thinking to get a .20 weihrauch hw97k but I've read that hw97k & hw77k are basically the same gun so it worth it? Or should I just get a air arms.

The .20 calibre is the only thing that made me want a hw97k but if it's the same as or too similar to the hw77k then it will be a waste of money. Uk power limit is sub 12ft/lb.

Benjamin  What would you do, why?

I have been interested in getting a .35, and have been considering a Benjamin Bulldog. I currently see a good deal on an older tricked out Pitbull in. 357. I also have had my eyes on the M357.
I have also been thinking about going the Aea Challenger Pro route too.
