I was thinking about Impact mk1 model's goods and bads.

Alongwith the plenum front part design I noticed that the valve seat was removable in mk1 models. Some people broke the seat many times, May be this is the reason FX opted for inbuilt fixed valve seat for later models.

The old model design was good for tinkerers as they could play with valve seat design etc.

Finally I found a valve housing of mk1 and converted it through exhaustive machining to work good in M3.

Now the real game started that I wanted to play.

I made a flat seating valve out of peek and also made the stainless steel valve seat with external O ring.

My new valve seat is a bit larger in internal dia and the seating surface is almost flat like 15 degrease as opposed to fx OEM seats which are around 40 degrees.

Just like my RAW HM1000X, this arrangement helped opening the valve with much less strike.

Resultantly I got 60 more fps with .25 25 grain jsb pellets with previous settings.

I understand that redesigning of valve and valve seats and converting to better materials and tighter tolerances helps in gaining efficiency and / or power.

Hello everyone,

I am starting a new series of Pellet Comparison Test for my FX Crown MK II. These test will be a bit more accurate and scientific because of the procedure and equipment that I will be using. However this is still for the fun and learning endeavor and would be glad to receive any comments, suggestions or your results learned from your experience with a FX Crown .177 cal.

To try and eliminate as much of the human factor as possible, I have mounted the rifle in my gun vice which is clamped to a bench rest. All of this is located in my shop to eliminate as much of any interference from any wind. The Target is set up under my carport at a measured 33-feet from the rifle. This is Test-1 and the next test will be at 25-yards and all of the equipment set up will remain the same as above. See photos #2 and #3 of the equipment and set up.

I shot 5-rounds of each of the 13 different Pellets as shown in the attached list ( photo #1 ). I used a straight ruler to measure the center to center distance for the maximum spread for each of the 5-shot rounds. I believe these measurements are close enough for this first round of testing. I looked at both the max spread and the pattern on the paper target, example see photos 5,6,7,8, to determine which Pellets to eliminate from this first round. Photo #4 is all 5 shots in one clean hole which is the JSB Exact Monster 13.43gr Pellet. The balance of the Pellets had no gap in the 5 shots creating one irregular shaped hole. I am both pleased and surprised how well this rifle shoots a variety of Pellets.

As a result from Test-1 I will eliminate Pellets 4, 8, 11, 12, and 13 and will not shoot them in Test-2 at 25-yards. I will post the results here when I complete Test-2.

So I had a WTB ad on the classified and I get a PM from a member passing on an Email of what I supposed was a friend,

so I start to Email back and forth, the Emails seemed short and pushy,..but everybody is different, then I decided to PM back to the member and asked if his friend was a member on Airgun Nation to look him up and check his history,

When the member didn't PM me back in a few days I went to check his profile and was deleted, and the member only joined around the day he PM me.

Now everything started to smell fishy.

I went to post a rifle for sale and it said I have insuffecient priviliges to post. Anyone know anyting about that and how I can remidy that? I've been a member since 2016 and have bought and sold tons of stuff.

The 177 barrel, mag, probe and removal tool was delivered today. I swapped out the 25 barrel to the 177 and started checking for groups.. (FX 10.3gr) at first they wouldn't group worth a crap.. I knew from past post daitboy had it shooting good on his RTI compact.. I cranked the reg down to 80 bar...backed the hammer spring screw flush and tried again. Groups improved but still not real good...I had to check it through the chrony at this point.. the FX 10.3 was a smoking 985fps... and wouldn't go any slower without the hammer spring set screw 4 threads sticking out!! I can't have that... I ended up taking the hammer weight out.. giving it one turn in and shooting it across the chronograph... 700's... now we're talking.. I bumped the reg up (according to the factory gauge 95-100 bar) tweaking on the hammer spring and 890fps it is.. shooting freaking great!! After I had it set I couldn't help but to set it up for the 13.43 gr jsb and tweak on it a bit... I had those hitting 913fps and also shooting great.. after I shoot all the tins of 10.3gr I'm going with the 13.43gr monsters.. I believe I'm gonna enjoy plinking with a 177...

I absolutely love my dreamtac compact and I have so far changed it more times I could count with different barrels, stock, grips, scopes but eventually I’m back to almost factory setting because I just love the compact design and the light weight. Plus I shoot low power in the back yard so no need for big and bulky anything. Decided to weight it and it’s just over 7lbs scoped which had me thinking, the reason I love it so much is all because how light it is so how do I get it to be even lighter? For reference from factory it’s 5.6lbs so I came up with a goal of sub 6lbs scoped and ready to shoot.

Dug in my airgun cabinet and found a cheap Barra 3-9x scope that weights 14.5 oz, paired that with a set of light weight rings from amazon AND taking off the factory rail and I had savings of about 1lb! Yes! Then I replaced the Mission first adjustable AR stock with 3D printed stock, another 3oz saved! 3D printed moderator, another 4oz saved!

Finally, I was eyeing the should that was covered in camo tape and wondered to myself how can I replace it with carbon tube to save some weight. After stripping the tape the shroud came in at 56 gram which is pretty light but I like carbon so off to amazon I went. With some trials and errors I made a carbon tube shroud with 3D printed ends that weights in at a svelte 35 grams or 21 grams of weight saving!!! Plus I integrated the annoying spacer at the end into the end piece of the shroud, was going to make the shroud shorter but decided to add 5mm to make sure all moderators will clear the air tube. Yes, I got rid of the power plenum too.


In case anyone ask why anyone would waste money and time to save 21 grams the reason is simply, because I can and it’s fun!

After some minor figment/alignment issues it is shooting well and the shroud feels a lot stiffer. I like the look of matte carbon, very happy over all but think I want a better scope. Mostly likely will get an immersive 10x24 scope which has the possibility of saving even more weight with right mount.

I bought the rifle to shoot slugs, I am going to test it out tomorrow some more at 100 yards but I am still interested in having an unchoked, .22 fast twist rate barrel drummed up for this rifle as it is really the cats ass.

I really would like to shoot the JSB 25.39 Knock outs in .217 as they are very readily available.

I had left my Maverick 22 Sniper sit for a spell while I played with my new Compact 25. I was asked to test some 30 gr, 22 slugs from a local producer. While trying to tune the gun lost a lot of power somehow.
I had it tuned to 160/128 and the IHS @ 5.55 mm with a hammer weight of 11.8 grams ( 11 with spacer) and was shooting NSA 27.5’s @ 960.
Now all I can get out of the gun is 830 fps with the 27.5 slugs. I have gone back to my original tune and get in the low 820’s. I have increased the tune to 165/140 and 6mm on the IHS and can get 830 by messing with the IHS.
i am stumped on what could be wrong. I double checked that the slug port on the barrel was being used, swapped gauges with my other Maverick. Both are the same brand digital gauge and they read the same pressures.
I am tapped out on my knowledge and skills. I have considered a full disassembly but am not sure I have the skills to go through that process.
Does anyone have a thought as to where the problem may be?
The next step is to send it to Utah Air Guns for repair.
