Results  XFT Phoenix 10/22/22 Match Results

1st and 2nd in Pellet class (Mike S. and Ben S)
Screenshot_20221023-004433.png

Had a turnout of 10 shooters: 2 Rimfire, 7 Pellet, and 1 Slugger. Colorado Chris (I think) was the lone slugger. I was not sent his score card so don't know how he did (I WAS sent the sign up sheet and his name is on it, looks like he shot his Impact and .25 slugs from NSA). There's been mucho mucho mucho airgun comps here in AZ in the past few weeks and I think that factored into only 10 shooters. I know that was personally why I couldn't make it down to the match, well, that and my current overnight work schedule. Other than Gabe that came in from San Diego, I think everybody that made it are local PHX shooters.

From the Xtreme Troyer factor, the shooters had their work cut out for them, and that's not even factoring in the wind, which by NWS data, looks like it was rather nasty.
The highest Troyer was a 56.3!!! and was a 1.5" kz @ 75 yards on lane 3. Next highest was a 1.75" kz @ 61yards on lane four with a T of 45.8. There was also a T of 42.8 (2.25" @ 77 yards on lane 2). Typically the 3" kzs @ 100 yards on lane 3 and 10 are the highest T's (@41.7), but not this match!

The overall Troyer factor for the course was a 36.4 and a 72.8 if adjusted for wind, based on a measured gust of 21mph, and as discussed here: https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...un-report-from-sept-2022-night-match.1274312/

That unadjusted-for-wind Troyer of 36.4 is the hardest overall T we've seen in a while. The average wind looking to be about 8-12mph during the match time, only made matters worse, by the looks of the scores. Furthermore, those switches from ssw to sse would be tough, as that would be switches from quartering in from about 1 oclock to quartering out from about 5 o clock from one gust to the next, at least on some of the targets. And it seems to me that those quartering wind shots are the worst for messing with elevation, in addition to drift. Anybody ever thought of some windicators downrange for these matches? I kid, I kid.

Mike S came out on top again. At the next match, somebody's gonna have to give the windage turret on that Kahles of his a good twist or three when he's not looking. Good shooting Mike. Keep an eye on your rig next month, or don't, and see what happens :sneaky:.

I'd like to point out that Steve M and Tony P were the only shooters to go 4/4 on lane 3. Dunno that all of us feel this way, but lane 3 has been my bugaboo since Ben added it. There really isn't a "close" target on that lane, with a 75 and 100yard target. And it was set even harder yesterday, with a 1.5" kz on the 75 and a 3" on the 100yarder. Great shooting to you two for cleaning it.

Nobody went 4/4 on the offhand lane. Practice up folks, lane 9 is typically a good opportunity to pull ahead, or fall behind, lol.

From what I was told, sounds like it was another fun, but challenging match.

Ben wanted me to add that he was sent a demo scope from Falcon, their new "Endura" model. Most of the shooters were able to take a good look through it and it sounds like the typical with scopes, pros and cons. I looked through it last weekend and it was okay, but not quite as good as their X50. Seems like the main negatives that some pointed out were the somewhat mushy turrets, and the minimum focus distance of 13 yards. That min focus distance would be fine for XFT, but would present a problem for regular ft where targets are as close at 10 yards, and many of us shoot both disciplines. I would suspect field target shooters are a relatively small portion of the market for scope manufacturers, but I keep hoping one (or more) of them will realize that most of us are willing to throw some money at scopes in the search for the holy grail ft scope.

Thanks to Ben and crew for another great match (so I was told).

Rifle (Wood Stock, .25cal)- $420
DonnyFL Adapter- $50
Saber Tactical Scope Rail- $40
Barrel Band- $20
Barrel Stiffener- $30
Lightened Valve Spring- $15
Gauge Covers- $10
Cheek Riser/Butt Pouch- $20
Scope Rings- $30
=$635

This is a big discount off of what everything would cost outright, and everything is already installed and functioning as it should.
Internal (free) mods are:
-polished hammer
-polished barrel
-barrel crown
-expanded block and barrel transfer ports
-added a third screw to attach the stock to the action

This gun was previously offered with a DonnyFL Sumo and a Custom 16cc Power Plenum as a package. If you are interested in either of those, hit me up and I'll sell those as well with no extra shipping. The stock was modified to accept the plenum upgrade but it looks ok, it's just a hole above the bleed port. If you don't like it, you should just buy the plenum from me. Problem solved.

Hiw many size and weigh pellets??

Have been playing with my pelletgauge for a few days and getting use to using it. Was showing it to a few other shooters and one claimed "nobody uses those stupid things" and that "all the top shooters don't worry about the head size".

So for those of you at the higher levels....how many people use a head sizer to help minimize groups? I'm still going to test with my RedWolf to see if there is any difference, but wanted you guys to chime in as well.

Brocock Ranger XR - no longer a virgin

Yesterday Spector the 3rd arrived And today I decided with perfect weather see if it can actually live up to the hype.

Before heading out I mounted the Brocock Ranger XR 22 cal with a Vector Optics Veryon 4x16 IR with eagle Vision rings, and the Atlas bipod.0dB supplied moderator the Tatsu rubbed and the rti hush won’t fit (For the spec geeks) (cleaned barrel too)

I arrived around noon and decided to do the sight in first because this minor thing helps your pellet hit its target.

I decided on Hades to give them a try and they are one of my favorite pellets. The gun came shooting hades at 710 fps so around 18 fpe. I sighted in at initially 25 yards.

While playing with targets I see I have a shot on a staling in perched on a fence post in the paddock. I tried to find an angle I could use the bipod from, no so I did a 35 yard freehand. Whack, well Spector III was deflowered by a starling and any day you kill a starling is a good day.

I did a lunch pause with a ham and cheese sandwich and real carrots

I spent a total of 4 hours at the permission and did some w plowing and the sparrows see don’t reflect the number which is more like 10, I was too lazy to go retrieve them in the thick brush or manure piles, sorry Sadly 😞 only one starling.

Service after the Purchase…

We all understand that at some point “all” PCPs will eventually leak somewhere. We also know that “some” might tune their new guns into a state of unbalance. Like many other shooters I like my chosen brand. So it was very interesting to hear in an interview of a very prominent person in the airgun business by the Airgun Geeks. That a certain percentage of returns was the norm, “regardless of make or manufacturer”. The second part of the statement was, that a business has to be able to deal with that reality. This was an eye opening statement for me. Which gives me a new appreciation of the efforts involved in putting out and supporting these wonderful PCPs.

PS: Winter is coming here in NYS, so please all you “year-round” warm weather shooters? Send warm thoughts out East, while sending pellets.

Need assistance with stuck foster fitting

Greetings.
My problem started today when I tried to attach the hose from my new GX compressor to my Crown. I guess the tolerances of the GX fitting are wrong (?) and I could not get a true latching to the male end; the fitting stayed on loosely and popped off as soon as I tried to pump some air into the gun. So, I had an Air Venturi Female Foster Fitting and screwed it into the hose ending replacing the factory one. The fitting clamped down on the Crown male end well, but I cannot get it off. There is no pressure in the line or anywhere, as far as I can check, and this fitting simply will not come loose. I never pumped air with this fitting on, for your knowledge. The aperture of the FX Crown MK II is not finger friendly in the first place. (FX really needs to do better here, in my opinion.) So now I have my gun sitting attached to the compressor. I have worn my thumb and forefinger out. I was thinking about buying a bent head needle-nose pliers. Any suggestions? Thanks. S7

Bottle guns and bipods?

Questions for you bottle gun/bipod guys.....
  • Where do you put the bipod? Under-rail or bottle, or (heaven forbid) shroud ?
  • Have you seen any effects on impact points with varying bipod placement?
  • And with which bottle gun have you seen these results?
Thanks in advance.

(curious since I might be giving the Ghost a run for Xtreme FT at the winter matches, assuming the .22 barrel is worthy and I've only ever done tube guns from a bipod so no personal experience with bottle/bipod situation)
