30-Yard Challenge

@DonaAna1 : Thanks for submitting your card! I score your card as a 174 3X. Nice shooting and keep trying to improve.
If I have what you did right I have 174 as well.

15 (dropped) 18
18 15 (dropped)
15 17
17 20
19 18

Total 174. I think one of the dropped 15s was accidentally added back in here.

It is something I do frequently. My old eyes just don't get there! 🙂

The tale of the tape - RAW HM1000x .22 HP vs. Daystate Safari .22 HP
Both rifles shooting FX Branded JSB 25.39 RDs
RAW @ 940 FPS
Safari @ 972 FPS

Wind with Kestrel measured in the 3-8 MPH range, with gusts to 8 mph. Average was between 3-4 mph. Consistent head wind, but I also had switching right to left and left to right winds at times.

Shot (4) cards today at my outdoor range. Wind was up the entire time, and I normally don't do well once it gets past 3 mph. I don't even do that good at 3 mph. For both my RAW cards, I only had the near flag deployed. Shot a 192-5X and a 189-8X

My last two cards were with the Safari and shot a 187-7X and was down to my last card. The wind started to lay down for all but about #1 and #2 bulls. I always start from bottom right to left and was on a roll until I got to box # 7. I was holding pretty much on the 10 ring @ 4pm on the clock. Next four boxes 6, 5, 4, 3 were 10's. I could feel the noose tightening around my neck on the last two boxes at top - #2, and #1. Wind picked up slightly and it was pretty much a slight head wind.

Crap - hit a 9 on box # 2. One last box for my 200 score. I could feel the "Wolf was getting ready to howl!" I was so excited I walked away from the bench. Probably a mistake.

Box # 1 First bull, a 10x! One more stinking bull - you guessed it, a 9! I choked, but this was my best with the Safari so far - 199-14X

199 in 8mph winds - I'd also have to say I aspire to that kind of shooting! Great job!
Thanks Jim! I have to say, I shot the "199" as my last card in the sequence of shooting four total cards. The wind did lay down a lot for this card; up until the last two bulls on the top left. But, the wind was tricky and averaged 3-4 mph, with some gusting. I think I did not shoot while I felt or saw a gust with my near flag.

Great shooting Tommy, or should I say Abuelo? You could always double or triple the actual wind like quite a few guys on AGN do for their shooting. Like, well, I shot OK, but the wind was 10 to 12 MPH gusting to 15 to 18, swirling, so I know it sucks, but 199 was the best I could do under the circumstances... When in fact the actual wind was 3 to 4 MPH and steady. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Mike.

Yeah, I’ve seen those posts ( I.e., claims of tornadic winds ) also and always have a laugh. I should clarify that I did not shoot with the higher gusts, or at least I tried not too. I don’t mind a 2-4 mph wind, if I like the condition. But, I also will wait for the wind to lay down and still try and manage to shoot a card in less than 20 minutes.

Candidly, anything in excess of 3 mph, even at 30 yards, gives me trouble for trying to hit a good score in this 30 yard challenge. The 10 ring is so small on these cards that it is very easy to miss hitting the edge line.

I'll try and include a couple. I've been testing my other PCPs and these are the next best of the 5 PCPs I own. The best one, from my Avenger, is worse than the worst target I've shot with my P35 in 22. So I think it is pretty definitively my best shooting gun. That doesn't mean I don't like and won't be using my others, however. My P35 in 25 doesn't do well at this but has killed 18 squirrels for me so far, only one required more than one shot. My little Prod has killed 15 and since I turned it's power up I haven't lost one. Anyway, I think this is a 173 from my 25 caliber Avenger and a 164 from my P35 in 177. Both have already killed a couple squirrels, my only PCP that has not is the P35 in 22. It will get a chance soon. If the Avenger target is disqualified by all the hits in block 2 that is OK with me. I got a little frustrated and did a little resighting of my scope.

Attention Shooters: After a lot of requests, let's mix up the scoring leaderboard. We now have four categories, listed out below. Any card submitted after 8/1/22 will be entered into the leaderboard. As a reminder, no need to count XX's anymore. Let me know if anyone has scoring questions, after you review the first post.

We finally received a reprieve from the intense heat and have enjoyed some very favorable shooting conditions which I was actually able to take advantage of.

The conditions for the target with the Thomas .177 shooting the 13.4 Monsters was approximately 3mph l to r and the temperature was 70 degrees.

The second target is the very first target I have shot with the sub-$500.00 un-regulated .177 12 ft/lb CZ-200 using pellets from an unsorted tin of 2008 JSB's. I did have the gun tethered to a 30-minute tank with 1,800#'s in it. The tails on the wind flags were slightly moving from the very light left to right breeze. Shortly after retrieving and replacing the target my luck changed as the air literally stopped moving and my scores dropped two to eight points on the next four targets.
