Squirrel hunting experience and knowledge

Happy New Year!
I was curious on what my fellow tree squirrel hunters regard how best to hunt squirrels in the winter? Time of day, sunny/cloudy, wind/no wind, temps, etc. Now this is not baiting them but just going out to hunt them. I have nothing against baiting I just don't hunt them that way. I usually just hunt creeks and patches a tall timber. I have a shot plenty while deer hunting over corn(because I always carry an air rifle with me-lol). I'm talking about just going squirrel hunting only and when you decide to go and why.

Thanks
Jon

Kral Arms  Empire XS

Hello All,

I’m looking to purchase an Empire XS .22 . I missed the sale at Krale. I wrote them to see if they have any left but haven’t heard back yet. It looks like a company called Mundilar Airguns has them for $600. Has anyone purchased from them? I saw one currently on the classified section here but I’ve never bought or sold on it and all the warnings of scammers scare me.
Thanks

Whats your favorite door plinker?

Very sad …

Super sad.

The airline at the airport did not allowed me to bring my Sidewinder .30 with me to the hunting. Reason: the rifle had pressure in the bottle.

They requested me to take out all the air from the bottle, to remove the bottle and the valve of the bottle in order to confirm I had nothing inside the bottle and to let the rifle travel as luggage.

I did not had a fast way to empty the bottle nor to remove the valve of the bottle. So……. No hunting with my air rifle in this mule deer hunting…..

I will have to digest the daily frustration of not seeing anything on every try…. That digestion will have to be without the positive reward of the air rifle.

….. I may not show my sorrow to my companions….. I need to adopt an artificial happy face……

Other  What should I get?

So I have a settlement coming from a company I contracted for who was apparently shorting the 1099s some earnings. I happened to be on the list of said individuals, so I'm getting a check in the some of close to 3 grand.

I plan on saving half, and spending the other 1500ish or so on my first higher end gun.

I prefer traditional wood rifles, more so carbines. That doesn't rule out say, a BRK bantam or something.

I'm leaning towards an air arms s510 carbine, or a daystate revere or regal. Considered the FX dreamline, but im not sold on the super high rings to fit the mags, but it has its pros with adjustability and parts, and I like to tinker.

What you guys think you'd get, and if you own one of the aforementioned gems, tell me your take on them.

Only get to shoot ONE airgun today

We hear lots of folks say - "if i could only keep one airgun it would be"

But since it is January 1 2024 i thought i would ask this question a different way:

If you could only shoot one air gun in 2024, which airgun would you choose?

Happy New Year to all you AirHeads.

N/A  How to store a “Gas Ram” Springer

With all the new members I’m seeing here at AGN, I thought this old topic needs discussion again. I have several gas rams (Hatsan’s) and have just experienced some problems. It’s been discussed that a GR (GasRam) springer should be stored, muzzle down. I have always scored mine in the cabinet like all my other Springers, muzzle up. Done this for nearly 10 years now. However, just recently two of them were experiencing problems. One was totally dead and the other nearly 75% down. I can tell you that Hatsan does use oil in the Ram because when going through them and bleeding them down, some oil spews out. The o-rings on a ram are at the top (muzzle end) of the piston. So it makes sense to keep the oil against the rubber rings with the air pressure underneath. I filled both Rams back to normal and am now storing them, muzzle down. They both have been holding pressure just fine. What’s your experience?

Huben  Huben GK1 review

Just some feedback for all you. I purchased in .22. When I first got the pistol I wasn’t impressed. The trigger has some slop in it, but I eventually saw you can adjust the trigger which may take that out. Haven’t tried yet. One you get past the slop though, it is surprisingly a nice trigger action.

I think they totally screwed up by using that plastic piece that disengages the magazine. A good indication of a problem is when you put a piece of paper in the case that states it will break if you are not careful. Bad choice Huben. Upgraded part ordered.

The last thing to know is that the power seems to be set at different levels for each gun upon delivery. Mine was basically set at closed ( absolute lowest setting).

But… after much patience I have grow to love the pistol. Power is amazing once you get it dialed in. I basically set it to shoot 38 rounds. Pressure from 3250 to 1500. More than powerful to say the least. Donnie Tanto works just fine on it for backyard. Unless you just want to spend more money because of a look, go with the tanto.

It’s and awesome gun. I sold my AAA to go this route and am happy. It is a gun I can use now in my situation of small shooting environments. If I ever move to a place with more land I would go back to the AAA or sidewinder mini, but would not get rid of the Huben unless they can top this current model.
