Shot placement for .177!!

So for all you .177 hunters where is your go to shot placement at? What's your rig of choice? Speed's and ammo? Distances you feel most comfortable shooting?

I personally love the redwolf , dreamline classic, impact! Dreamline classic is my all time favorite! My range is from 10-85 yards given the wind condition permit it! I know .22 would be the easiest thing for me in hunting! I have a Christensen arms .22 rimfire and Silencerco sparrow on the end that I use sometimes!

Hatsan  Hatsan piledriver shooting very low fps

Just received my new pile driver .50 cal. Cocked it and air it up, went to shoot it and it barely makes a sound. 2nd shot got louder. By the 8th shot it looks to be only shooting 300 fps. And after the 8th shot it only used 75 bar of air, it should have been empty. I also noticed while holding the gun and tip it front to back you can hear what sounds like the hammer sliding back and forth. Didn’t know if this was normal or not. Hopefully some other hatsan owners can chime in. Sounds to me like the hammer isn’t hitting the valve hard enough to open it.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Huben K1 .22 1,000 + shipping considering trades .177 .22 preferably

Umarex  Problem zeroing airgun: Umarex Notos

So recently I installed the Plenum kit, and got a new threaded barrel from the mighty @Firewalker . And a buckrail moderator, sometimes the base one and seeing which works better (I have damages hearing so either or sounds the same to me)

Gun looks great! Quiet too, the mechanical hammer is louder than the shot itself.

But I’ve noticed as I’ve been trying to use my airgun as of late since then, it seems like the power is not always there?

For example I recently got a winchester AO 2-7x32 airgun scope and some vortex high, hunter scope rings.

When zeroing at about 30ish yards my shot are almost always incredibly low. Using an Optima 4x-32 on Bushnell Banner rings, Simmons 3.5-12 on Vortex Pro rings, and the Winchester 2-7x32 on Vortex High hunter rings, it seems I almost always run out of elevation.

I currently am removing the winchester and seriously judging my ability to zero my scopes. I was able to zero my powder burners no problem but I cannot for the life of me get my airgun scopes zeroed and 5 inches short of center.

On the rare occasion I once had my Umarex Notos zeroed, it would easily hit 1-2 inch groups based on how well I tried. Even with it not zeroed it still hits great groups, sometimes within the same hole. The hammer is at max power and I currently use JB Jumbo 18gr, CPHP 14 gr, JB jumbo 15gr. All very similar groupings and I still run out of zero.

When using my Vortex Venom or Viper micro red dots however, I can zero it easily and with no trouble.

I am currently trying using electrician’s friction tape as shims for the scopes incase if they are moving about, or Im tightening wrong (I always go from front to back and alternating front right/left to rear right/left. So they are evenly pulling down)

Winter Projects? Let’s see em!

What’s everyone been working on this winter? I get bored and tinker with a bunch of random hobbies. I have a P-Rod back on the bench now. I experimented with the usual B-Staley, HS, TP, etc. Just added a Hill lightweight hammer. Only shot a few strings, but it’s surprisingly pretty consistent.
Gun shoots great but I’m sure I’ll get bored and add a reg. Only so much you can do with a P-Rod.If I’m ever happy with tune, I got this pretty wood stock for it haha. I’m having fun and learning. That’s all that matters.
Anyways enough rambling

What’s everyone got on the bench? Any recent projects? Let’s see em💪

Kalibrgun  ARGUS 60 -- .30

So I been burned by airguns of Arizona one last time on a Cricket, the first time was with a Cricket compact in .177 wich blow the seals after the 4 shot from the first fill .. these one was in no way ready to be shipped and they did .. I asked for the feedback of the gun before purchasing, seller told me that the gun was received after a week because the buyer needed the money for a emergency and the gun was in flawless condition.. well I pay , gun received, I shipped the gun back next day AM . They keep $250+ in restocking fees . Why I shipped the gun back .. gun was heavily used obviously more than a week that was a gun some one took there as a
1000056157.jpg
1000056158.jpg
1000056159.jpg
trade . It could not hold a group at 20y no matter what. Why baffles where destroyed . Big amount of lead between the baffles n they shipped the gun like that.. there is no way that gun had hold the group they send on the package.. right out a lie .. now about the gun it self... what a absolute pice of C%$P .. way to loud to the ears compared to the uragan. 30 absolutely bad harmonics why the air stripper is round and the shroud is square ⬛️.. that it self is not bad .. the bad thing is the the roud stripper is not fit tightly it has like a 1/16 gap that allow the barrel to move inside the shroud on every shot. So when you added any moderator then you had a shot gun Cricket.. AF all these years the come with such a lame design.. that is why much of the reviews were made with the .22 short .. but there is one with the .25 , american air guner in where he said that he couldn't use a moderator in his review because it messed his groups. I wish I had read between the lines.. so do you self a favor if you see the model 60 for sale in Airguns of Arizona dot buy it..

Newbie here, looking at my first PCP

Hey everyone - another newbie here, or at least looking to be a newbie into the PCP world.

I've owned some pumps in the past (whatever could be had at Walmart or Sears). Those were mainly just for plinking.
We have a few chickens (pets really - my kids gave them names like "Hennifer Lopez") and some woods which butt up against the back of my property. I will occasionally get a rat or two who take advantage of the free chicken feed at night. I quickly found out that those .177 rifles were not really up to the task - unless I got a headshot, it would just discourage the rat for a few hours. And head shots were rare - I can watch the pellets corkscrew through the air if I pump it up enough to be able to hurt the rat. Less pumps stabilize the flight, but won't take a rat out.

I bought a Crosman Quest Nitro Piston Elite in .22 a couple of years ago to take care the rats which works out okay. I lay on top of my pool house at night and can shoot them at 15yds without too much trouble. My only real complaint is that it doesn't seem terribly accurate past 25yds (admittedly I've only ever used one brand and type of pellet in it), and it's a long rifle which makes reloading the break barrel action awkward - gotta stand up to do the whole reloading dance. I think it's 42" or 44" long.

For a scope I was usuing the one which came with it, but I picked up an ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 3-14 scope a few months ago really cheap since it was "broken". I was able to fix that but haven't really done anything besides sight it in on the air rifle.

Anyway - new rats will still find the chicken-chow every once in a while, but I've recently had a couple squirrels decided to chew on my buildings which I'll need to deal with. I can't lay on top of the pool house during the day for a couple of reasons (metal roof is too hot in the Texas sun, neighbors will think I'm more odd than they already have observed, etc). I can sit on my back porch and thin the squirrel herd out some, so I've begun to look at some PCPs which are shorter than my Crosman as well as hopefully being more accurate at 50yds. Being quiet is still pretty important since my back porch is closer to neighbor houses than the pool house is.

I've been watching a bunch of videos and reading here, and I think I'm starting to settle on the Airforce TalonSS. It is at the extreme upper end of what I'm looking to spend, but if it's a buy-once-cry-once deal then I'm okay with explaing to my wife why I have yet another hobby which isn't cheap.
Since it is mainly for pest control and some plinking, being a single shot is okay. I suspect that it will be easier and faster to reload than the Crosman so I'm already upgrading in my opinion.

I have a couple of questions for those more experienced than I...
  1. Given my needs and the requirement to be somewhat quiet, is the TalonSS a good choice for the price or is there something else comparable/less expensive that I may not have considered yet?
  2. 20, 22, or 25 caliber? It seems to me that 22 caliber is the most popular and offers the largest number of projectile choices, with 25 caliber being next.
  3. Since I'm going to be new into the PCP world, are there any other aspects which I'm overlooking due to ignorance? I know I'll need a pump of some type, and will want to try a variety of pellets to figure out what works best - anything else?
Thanks for reading and I appreciate any wisdom you may pass along!

N/A  16 joule or 24 joule

Hi all, I’m looking to buy an air rifle. I currently live in the uk so my restriction is 16 joules. However in 6 months I will be moving to Spain which there they allow 24 joules. Should I wait to purchase a 24 joule air rifle. My intentions are to do some long range shooting. 70-80 yards. I also want to do a bit of small animal hunting. My budget is about $400 could perhaps stretch it to 550. I really liked the look of the Remington express XP but I read that it has a short range and isn’t very accurate. Please let me know and feel absolutely free to send me some suggestions for rifles. Thanks and happy new year!

I've been looking at .30 cal to take down some of the yote population I hunt at along with other pests (groundhogs mostly). And I'm really on the fence about what gun to get. I'm really thinking of getting an FX Maverick VP, seems to fill in everything I would want. Short, great aftermarket support, slug shooter, isn't super heavy, accurate (from what I heard), and more then enough power for me. But the price is a lot to take. I'm really worried about buyer remorse.

I've had 3 PCP rifles now, all under a grand (Avenge-X, Notos, and an AEA Element Max). And I have been happy with them. Are +1k guns really worth it? For that matter are +2k guns worth it? You guys/gals that bought these higher end guns, do you feel you got your money worth?

N/A  Please show me pictures of your bottle clamps with picatinny rail on the bottom for the bipod.

Hi Friends

i have a fx dreamline lite with a tuxing 700cc carbon bottle (diameter 61.5mm)

i am unable to find any rail extensions for my dreamlite- the one on the bottom next to the trigger guard- i want to extend the small rail to mount the bipod further out but there is nothing out there except for impacts..

so i will have to go off my bottle- its long, 700cc.. just a standard tuxing carbon bottle from amazon.. i like to put something pretty on it- something that fits my likings..

i know everyone has different taste so go ahead and show me which bottle clamp with picatinny rail you got on your airgun.. and maybe tell me where you bought it..

edit: maybe i could just buy this metal clamp 60mm and weld a piece of picatinny rail onto it? if the picatinny rail is metal and weldable then it should not be any problem, right?

edit2: ok- i found plenty of steel picatinny rails so i will be able to weld it (just few point welds, little ones) to the metal clamps and set it on my 700cc bottle all the way in front... and i think i will get 2 clamps for better stability.

what you guys think?

thanks

Tethered at the bench

That is the way i always shoot.
So i just got to thinking, i dont really need a air tank on my rifle, but i would instead take a proper length lower rail instead and pay the same for the rifle.

Here i have modified a RTI Mora in paint with a lower rail to demonstrate.
I also imagine a connector adaptor that would screw on where bottle would so you can still use #1 regulator, or you can connect at foster using a inline regulator.

Mora tether rail.jpg

I would buy that ⬆️ Mora as soon as it was possible

I also wonder why no brand have this option, after all a lot of people shoot tethered at the bench, and of course if the need arise we could just remove rail and put on one of the bottles we already have.
And so probably no money saved, but airgunners of the world empowered with more choice.

Have any of you bought, or considered buying, a gun out of the classifieds just because it was local?

I browse the classifieds very frequently and will admit that location plays a roll when I decide to purchase anything. I feel like I’m much, much more tempted to buy something I’m only mildly interested in if I’m able to buy it in person. For instance, I wasn’t even shopping for a new gun and stumbled across a Daystate Ranger(?) that was listed by zx10wall that really got me going. Now this isn’t a gun I would have been shopping for, but as soon as I saw the seller, I started paying attention. Not only is Derrick well known here, but he also lives in a town that almost borders the one I live in, and that carries weight. I clicked away from that ad but it was with mild reluctance. The next time I logged on, I almost immediately searched out the ad, saved a picture he posted in it, and with more than mild reluctance this time, moved on without sending him a PM. Less than 24 hours later I’d convinced myself that if he still had it, I’d message him and see if selling locally meant as much to him as buying locally does to me. By this time though, that beauty of gun was listed as sold. Three days later I’m still not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
Some time back (last year maybe?) in a thread about Forum suggestions, I may or may not have suggested that sellers should at least list a state in their ad title when posting in the classified section. As I sit here thinking about how close I came to potentially buying a gun that I didn’t care the least about or even know existed several days ago, I realize how dangerous that is. So sellers, please for the love of God, if you live in Texas, DO NOT put your state in your ad title. ESPECIALLY if you live east of Austin and, oh, let’s say south of maybe Dallas, JUST DON’T DO IT.
Thanks in advance.

Larger capacity bottle for RAW HM1000x

Hi,
I'm looking to replace my stock bottle with something larger. Could someone make a recommendation? Will I have to purchase an adapter?

I know that Bagnall and Kirkwood in the UK have a variety of bottles available, but they wouldn't help with a recommendation. I think it's a liability issue, not a lack of good customer support.

Geneeus

Epic  Regulator issue.

I purchased the Epic Two with a Huma raptor already installed. The shot consistency was wild to say the least so I ordered a repair kit for the regulator and waited for it to arrive before digging in. The little plastic disc was installed upside down so I replaced all the o-rings, cleaned everything up and made sure all passages were clear and reinstalled the reg with the disc the right direction hoping that was the issue. Well the shot string aren't as wild but I noticed that the refresh rate was way too long so I decided to time them using the digital gauge I installed.
Over a 50 shot string, the refresh rate starts at 12 seconds and finished over 2 minutes to refresh to set pressure as the psi diminishes in the main tube.
From a 300 bar until approaching the reg setting of 125 bar I timed the shots refresh times get longer and longer as the pressure in the tube dropped.
I took the regulator apart just to see if anything else could have been missed and couldn't. Cleaned, silicone and back together to have the same issue.
Huma has been contacted but is wanting to direct me to the vendor since they installed it but it has to be this regulator in my opinion.
Any experts out there have a clue what the issue with refresh time?
It doesn't seem to creep past the set pressure but as I shoot it just takes a very long time and if out shooting I would just have to time my shots and be there all day long to get anything done.
