Ballistic solvers, for those that use them.

Not sure when or even if I'll make my new ballistic solver public, as most people already have their preference, but wanted to show off the work I put in this last week developing one that uses G1, GA, GA2, RA4, SLG0, SLG1, WC0, G7, and some other drag references, while also receiving input on what could or should be added if its not present already. Its a common 3DOF(+) ballistic solver using Euler's method to calculate drag. Nothing too fancy, was/is mostly a challenge to myself and to help myself understand some of the dynamics going on externally with projectiles during flight, all this and I have barely scratched the surface. The math involved for advanced ballistics is...certainly beyond me...but hey, don't let that set you back, I certainly didn't let it to me.

Below are a few screenshots, left side shows no effects added, while the right side shows all effects added, Spin drift, Magnus effect, Earth based effects which include Coriolis and Eotvos effect, and even the wind being included in zero, a feature I figured would hurt to add that I don't see currently in ballistic solvers. These effects are near meaningless under 200 yards, but really present themselves, more-so with airguns, once pushed beyond.

No added effects vs added effects

1728345030082.png
1728345046936.png

Spin drift, Earth based and Magnus effects=.09 / .32 mil at 150 yards = .5" and 1.75" difference, while not a lot, it grows rather quickly as you increase range, which airgunners are frequently doing as technology evolves. .08 of the .32 was the wind being zeroed, still 1.3" with that effect taken out.

The other cool feature is visually showing the vertical stringing. The FPS variance above is 50, and you can see on the reticle, horizontal lines that show where your high and low shots could wander to assuming your fps input used is in the middle. At 50 fps spread you could see upwards of 7" of vertical stringing in the above setup. 50 fps spread was used to show the extreme, as no one in their right mind will shoot 150 yards with a gun that has 50 fps spread, at least not out of enjoyment.

VS 20 fps spread which is calculated to cause roughly 2.6" vertical stringing. (Not shown, 5 fps is .6" vertical spread, at this distance with this setup, and 10 fps is 1.3")

1728343380532.png
1728343391789.png

Another neat feature is automatically updating weather that effects your shot. Each component from Temp, humidity, wind speed and wind direction can be set to auto or inputted manually. Its wild to see the effects here in Colorado as the temperature goes from 40F in the morning to 90F in the afternoon. Quite the shift in POA required.

Here is 40F vs 90F:

1728344164497.png
1728344306898.png

.52 mil + .23 mil which is quite a shift, and that assumes your gun isn't shooting at a greatly reduced fps in the cold, which it likely is, which would add even more drop.

If you have ideas / features that should be included, feel free to chime in! Happy shooting.

-Matt

First Successful Squirrel Hunt Of 2024 On Public Lands

I had a great time going out on public lands to go squirrel hunting! This was my 3rd or 4th time going out but my first time being successful this year. The success rate is completely connect to the acorn yield, so what may have been a hot spot a few years ago, can dry up completely the next year or so.

20240902_093806.jpg

After walking about a mile, I came across some deer scat amongst some acorns, which was a good sign that there was food that squirrels would take a liking to. 20 minutes after my first still, I decided to press forward some 50 yards for another still and I saw some movement. My camo did a great job, as he had not a clue I was there even at 26 yards!

Umarex  Cheek riser for notos?

Anyone put a cheek riser on the stock notos? Is there any cheek raiser that will fit on the stock notos? Didn't want to purchase a new magpul stock and cheek rise. Was wondering if I can just purchase an cheek riser and use on the stock notos. Let me know if the one of the magpul will fit or any out there will fit on stock notos.

Air Venturi  Avenger went auto..?

Hey guys

I have a modded normal Avenger. 22 that just made "full auto" noises like when a paintball gun or CO2 airgun are on last bits of air... went brrrrrrr like shot real fast back to back to back and watched the needles drop then rise again when it was done.

It has a light valve poppet spring and some other stuff done to it but it has stock hammer spring set at 4 turns I think.

Any idea what could cause this on a side lever gun? It did it twice in a magazine but not back to back.

Need new poppet or something? I didn't mess with hammer spring or regulator but did recently have to degas to replace an O ring on the plug for the bottle conversion. No idea why that would matter but just giving more info.

Thanks in advance!

FX  Panthers Hunter Compact FPS Drop

I took my HPC .25 out today to site in a changed scope. I noticed that my POI was quite a bit lower than I expected. So I put the chrony on it and to my surprise it was going at 685 FPS where it had been going at 860! No air leaking that I could tell, but I’ll let it sit. I then upped the regulator pressure from 130 to 150 bar and the FPS went to 714. I moved the hammer spring between 3.5 and 4 with no effect. Since this is my first and only FX, I’m at a loss as to what caused the drop. It’s been rock solid up to now. Is there an o-ring that may have gone out that I need to look for? The gun is clearly quieter now than normal. Any help is appreciated.

FX  Buy an impact m4 or wait for the m5?

The fx impact is the only gun that release a different model 1-2 years apart. It is the pcp airgun of Samsung and Apple phones lol. So the question is, buy the impact m4 now or wait 1-2 year for the m5? What features do you want to see in the m5?

Fx impact
Fx impact X
Fx impact mk2
Fx impact m3
Fx impact m4
Fx impact m5?? Maybe 2025-2026.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Taipan Veteran(1) Standard .22, Red Laminate Stock

Purchased in June 2024, one of the last new ones that was available in the original version. Absolutely great shooting airgun, I've just got three airguns that shoot very similarly and something needs to go. Still not sure this is the right choice. Cocking lever is on the left side, I'll swap it over to the right if the buyer prefers. I've added the DFL hammer spring adjuster and a picatinny rail. Shoots JSB's 18.1's in the mid 880's fps and gets around 80 shots. Scope, rings and laser are not included.
$1000 shipped Pay Pal Friends & Family or buyer pays fee.

PCP Rifle  SOLD FEINWERKBAU FWB MODEL 500 PCP 10 METER RIFLE Reduced 750.00 Shipped!

Dated 2019 this is a current model still available for order for 1849.00 from Pyramyd air and others. I purchased this one from AOA a while back, it had a crack at the wrist from shipping, it was still secured by the trigger guard which is part of the stock and was actually a little difficult to get the crack opened enough to get 30 minute epoxy to completely flow and coat the entire crack. After it was dry I added 2 U.S. government surplus threaded brass stock repair pins coated and back filled with the same epoxy. The repair is barely noticeable and is the strongest part of the stock. Other than the stock repair the gun is excellent and has seen little use. Has a nick under the stock which is pictured. Typical FWB accuracy and a quiet grenade launcher sound from the shorter than shroud Barrel. Holds air forever as I have never seen any evidence of loss. Includes the pictured 5 10mm butt plate spacers which sell for $20 each, the fill adapter and manual with factory test group. Will be shipped separated from the stock to keep costs down. 750.00 shipped 48 states. PayPal friends and family or add 3.5%.

Important Information and Ideas for Sellers and Buyers of Airguns

Having completed many many successful buying and selling transactions using AGN's classified section, I thought it would be nice to create a thread devoted to my Lessons Learned that I feel are most valuable:

#1) always create a proper bill of sale and record your purchases and sales to include historical info like:
date and source of acquisition and take pictures that include:

A) serial numbers
B) identifying features.

How many of us do this? Thus the value of the information.

#2) If you are going to sell high dollar items, clearly identify what the item is and make sure to include a serial number(s) when applicable.

****Include a bill of sale and an additional shipping label on the inside box*****

#3) Only ship properly (double boxed and extremely well packaged) items that make it very difficult for a carrier to peak inside. Find ways to stiffen the boxes against being bent or crushed. I recently had a brand new Redwolf arrive with a bent barrel and cracked barrel shroud because the shipper failed to stiffen the inner to outer packaging method.

#4) Properly and truthfully declare package contents and fully insure them so that you can actually be refunded in case of carrier loss. At the very least, use the item your shipping legal nomenclature on shipping documents without trying to be sly by using terms like pneumatic tool or paper puncher or whatever. If you are trying to save a nickel you are likely to loose many dollars.

#5) always require a "signature on the receiving end" to avoid a porch pirate or worse an thieving delivery person.

#6) If an item is lost / or suspected of being stolen, immediately contact the carrier and provide all your documentation, time is of the essence - there is always a waiting period before you can file a claim.

#7) After the waiting period is lapsed and the carrier declares the loss, file a police report, as a police report provides a clear legal documentation of the circumstances surrounding the incident and your desire to recover your property.

#8) Be Fully aware of what is and isn't insurable and thus financially recoverable - an example: if you use Pirate Shipping, a third party discount shipper - they state in their rules that Airguns are not covered by their insurance. You need to know exactly what UPS / FEDEX / USPS will actually allow and insure.

#9) as sellers and buyers be VERY clear of what you will do in case of loss or damage.

#10) be kind enough to leave feedback for one another.

#11) be ever alert to the scammers.... they are getting good at stealing photos from a variety of sources. Vet them fully and if needed have them share a picture of a drivers license, a snail mail address that you can look up, email. Remember the more info you get up front, the less likely you are to be scammed. Recently the only way i avoided a 2K scam was because when something felt off... i said i wanted to pick the gun up in person and pay in cash.. at that point lots of reasons why that wasn't possible started flying and the scammer was outed.

I encourage AGN members to add more lessons learned to this thread; but keep them as factual information, not just hearsay.
The Classified Section of this forum is a valuable way to buy, sell, and trade things which can help us all enjoy our sport more.

I also encourage you to visit this thread regarding shipping:

Coyote within 50yards

So I've been getting tons of coyotes around my property that have no regard for my dogs or myself earlier today one was out watching my chickens within 20 yards . I have some rolling hills and dense brush out side my property line so anything over 75 yards and won't be able to get a clear shot . I currently have a .25 cal hansan 95 vortex that I use for ground squirrels but don't think it's strong enough for coyotes. So looking for a new rifle that i can reliably use thinking .30 or .357 what would yall recommend? Would like to stay under 600 bucks

Beeman  Yet another R8 in the herd

Couldn't resist buying yet another R8....this makes 4 total. Unfortunately, this one is a little bit sad. Looks great, but the pellet doesn't even make it to the target at 20 yards.
Fortunately, I have tons of spares for it thanks to last year's R8 hoard purchase. I'm going to see if I can get it going again with some help from my fellow airgunner from Pellets and Pistons...Kevin. Hopefully he has time for me.
In the meantime, here's a couple if pics for your perusal.

FX  Impact M3 power adjuster question

Ok, I've almost got this gun figured out except one thing, the hammer adjuster.
Within eact setting of the macro, 1 thru 16, is there also 5 micro increments within the macro?

In other words, is there macro 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 ans 2.1, 2.2 etc up to 16.5

Or if I reset the micro to 3, for instance, on any of 1 thru 16, is that the same setting?
