The new H&N Hornet Pistol in .177 caliber

231215_Hornet Pistol 177 Forums.png
Christmas is surprisingly just around the corner and I wanted to take the last opportunity in this year to introduce you to a new product:

The H&N Hornet Pistol in .177 caliber

The H&N Hornet has enjoyed continued popularity among recreational shooters for several years. However, due to its length, it cannot be used in all airguns, especially not in the ever-popular CO2-operated pistols with rotary magazines. Moreover, the weight often prevents its use in relatively low-powered airguns.

This problem prompted us to revisit our drawing board and to make a shorter version. The body and tip both need to be adjusted so that the center of gravity is in the right place and the overall balance is right. In addition, the new pellet should continue to “work” in the target as usual. Finally, the smaller lead bodies and brass tips have to be fed flawlessly into the joining machine and put together.

With a maximum length of 5.35 mm, the new H&N Hornet Pistol fits seamlessly into any standard rotary magazine. The weight is reduced to 7.7 grains, making it suitable also for lower power airguns. And it is still a member of the Hornet family and thus packs a powerful punch with its brass tip and hollow point, ensuring easy penetration and controlled deformation on impact.

The first shops in Europe are already offering the H&N Hornet Pistol and there are more on a cargo ship halfway across the Atlantic.

That’s it from H&N for this year, dear airgun aficionados.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

N/A  Those D*mn Yankees!

I moved from Michigan to the Deep South, Alabama in 2016. Was informed last Sunday at my men’s Bible study, the difference between a Yankee and a D*mn Yankee. Yankees come to visit and a D*mn Yankees don’t go back. So these “good old boys” like duels? Let’s go! Just finished my dueling pistols. Walk 10 paces from each other and turn to hit the bottle. Loser is at the winners beck and call for the day. Knowing these ”gentlemen“ I think they would rather be shot dead with a powder burner than serve a D*mn Yankee for a day. I can’t lose.

HW/Weihrauch  HW100 bubbling paint on tank

I am considering bvuying an HW100s. I haven't handled the gun and have some photos. One troubling thing is this bubbling at the fill end of the tank. Has anyone seen this before, or know what this is a symptom of?

I mean, I can figure it's corrosion, and if I didn't get it for a bargain so I can buy a new tank I will walk away, but curious is this is also a symptom of other faults, has anyone else had this happen, or possibly just lack of care from the owner.

I have always wanted one of these, and we don't get many that come available, so I am happy to fix it if I get it at the right price.

Thanks in advance,
Paul.

Gamo  Piston seal question

My gamo break barrel is only shooting 450 fps, so i took apart my first break barrel, thinking I'd find a scored up piston seal but it is smooth but seems very hard plastic, normal ? I don't know . Years ago we softened r/c car part by boiling them in water, has anybody had success doing this. Looked online for replacements and average cost is over 20 $ w/shipping, is there also a way of knowing spring is weak.

Last year I purchased Grizzly Lathe in order to have some fun at the house in the evening after the kids go to bed and I get some time to myself. It took me a few months fabricating the WorkBench as I only dedicated an hour here and there on it, but it was finally completed this fall.

After going through the break in period and getting all of the Lathe Components aligned/tuned in I was ready for a project. But what project??? (I had so many drawn out at this point so it was hard to decide.

I had a Crown Action sitting in the safe waiting for the TJ .25 Blank to be turned down and threaded so i thought I might as well start with a project with threads so I could get that learning curve our of the way.

I ended up getting some Aluminum Stock and Machining it to the exact barrel specs I needed so I would make sure I had all the tooling needed and get some practice Threading/Turing as well.

In an afternoon I had the Aluminum Practice Barrel completed and theBl Brass Transfer Port threaded on as well as the DonnyFL on the opposite end. Well, I guess it was time to Chuck up the TJ Blank and start making chips!

I completed the Barrel and Tested the Fitment. All worked out great and now was the time for a tune/test with some Hades Pellets (As I have found these to be very consistent and accurate for Squirrel Hunting), but my buddy hit me up and upped the day for our annual squirrel hunt to the day before we planned. I was excited to go and wanted to shoot this new Crown Setup so I loaded a few pellets in the magazine and shot them outside my basement door (1100pm) to ensure the barrel would chamber and shoot a pellet.

The following morning my buddy arrived at the house and we loaded up to hit some local farms for our Hunt. He asked me how the Crown was shooting and I replied, "don't know, haven't tested it. I figured we would get to our first farm and shoot a group/do a quick tune over the Chronograph/zero the scope."

I had him shoot a quick group with the Impact I loaned him for the day (my first quality PCP that is my go-to squirrel rifle and have had for around 4 years now). He shot 3 pellets at 35 yards and just said, "yep, one hole as always". He then poured some coffee started getting his gear on.

I got out the Chronograph, loaded a magazine, and got ready for a what I hoped to be a quick and painless tuning experience so we could get on our way. After around 15 shots I was shooting 840fps/ 0.3" group at 35/ Zeroed the scope. Damn, I was impressed. I really never thought I would have a desire to pick up another rifle besides my Trusty Impact when hitting the woods, but I don't know.

We spent the day hopping between some farms and had some great luck. I enjoyed Slinging, Shooting, and the overall feel of this Crown. Now I'm thinking I'm going to have to have the "it's not you, it's me" conversation with the Impact and start taking this Crown out more often before Season comes to a close.

Short Story Long the .25 TJ Super Compact Crown project was a success and happy to have the capability to completed future projects like this one.

Cheap Norma pellets pyramid air sale

Pyramid has the Norma pellets variety pack on sale for $9.99 for the .177 (1450 count) and .22 (850) count plus free shipping today on orders over $99 plus you can use code SOFREP for $20 off $100. I just got 20,000 rounds in .177 and .22 for a little over $100. I suck at math but that's pretty cheap.

"Deal's dead back to reg price" Really good tripod for $16

Anyone looking to get into shooting from a tripod should check these out. I just got one in and to my surprise it's actually really sturdy the ball head locks up nice. It is a bit on the heavy side but for a backyard or out of a window setup it would work great. It also has an adapter to use it as a mono pod with a fixed head. They have a carbon model also for around $100.

Great news... JSB has new offerings coming your way!!!

Remember when the Monster Redesigned (MRD) pellets first came out? Well you and everyone else did and you all remembered them having really deep, thin skirts. They were really missed. That was the 2023 number one question we were asked at every event we went to, on emails, even the big shooters asked about them. Will they ever come back? Well, I can say without a doubt they are back. Wait, now... you have options. They will be available in 200 count tins and now 350 count tins. Who doesn't want options?!? 2017 called, they said "you're welcome.”

Ok, nothing really new about these except the item number has changed... oh, and they have a new name. Did I mention they not only come in 200 count tins, but now they are available in 350 count tins? Yeah, same great MRD, but now available in bigger tins. Bigger is better.

We bet you didn't see this one coming... an even heavier Jumbo Monster. There is more than enough pellet here to accomplish your goals in life. The increase in mass will give you better down-range ballistics... which is especially important for the benchrest shooters and if you choose to hunt with this Grand-daddy of a pellet, well... I'm pretty sure it speaks for itself.

The MK3 version of this great little slug now comes with more SMACK. They have been improved upon with the addition of a skirt (the MK2 version was the first and we will be getting those in later... yes, that is backwards). The skirt helps the slug grab the bore and improves accuracy, while that new HUGE hollow point means more energy dumping devastation in a smaller package. Giving this 10.03gr slug its greatest improvement. JSB has made this slug the ultimate in small game hunting and pesting.

Last year and the beginning of this year, the second biggest question was, "Why don't you make a heavier .22 Hades?" We sent that question over to JSB and Pavel said "I got you." Actually, he already had plans in the works. So we bring to you the MONSTER OF ALL HADES, the Hades Monster... 25.39gr of hunting devastation, but with more mass for even greater energy dump on small game. Happy Hunting!

FX  Well it happened......m3 leak

My beloved, excellent shooting, M3 has developed a leak. I've checked the easy to check spots and couldn't find it.
It's well within the warranty so off it goes.
It's a slow leak, taking about 24 hours to drop about 60 bar but leak it does.
Now to decide if I want to ship it during these crazy holiday shipping times or wait until after Christmas.
It's still very usable for target or squirrel so..........................

RMR Airgun Slugs

I am curious if any of you out there have tried the RMR Bullets Airgun Slugs (SLAP): https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/airgun/25/25-cal-250-slap-airgun-slug-26-grains/ ? I read somewhere that RMR are the people who actually produce the FX Hybrid slugs. Anyway, this may be the current iteration of what FX had promised as their new "Halo" pellet/ slug combination.
