New Beeman AR2079A is looking like a real winner.

Last week I received a new Beeman AR2079A from Airgun Archer Fun in Canada. It is a .177 with a small hpa tank. I already have a Beeman AR2078B side lever CO2 that I really really like so I decided to roll the dice again and go for the hpa version. It took some work to make the 2078B into the great shooter that it is, so I knew what I was getting into with this new one. It’s all part of the fun. The internals on these are rough, but we are talking about sub $200 rifles. They are truly diamonds in the rough however.
This 2079A arrived with the same heavy trigger with plenty of creep and grittiness. Sounds like she is wasting air and the cocking effort is rough and inconsistent. Just what I was expecting; and I am looking forward to tearing her apart and smoothing everything out. However, right off the bat I’m thinking that I have a real winner here. I’ve done nothing so far, not even cleaned the barrel yet, and she’s shooting groups like these. These are five shot groups, at 12 yards, with the included aperture sights. I was rested on bags. I’m sure the bore is dirty, I know the trigger is “challenging“, but I’m really happy with this performance so far. I haven’t put her over the chrony yet but I will soon.

Introduction - New to PCP after 40+ years with Pew Pews

As a grey haired, semi-retired old dude, I'm excited to join this community. I am a PCP newb, just dipping my toes into the sport. I'm starting with a Barra 250Z .25 caliber rifle, a Huma-Air Mod 40 compensator, a Vertex Sonora 4-12 x 44 scope, .98 CI carbon fiber air tank, and a GX CS3 compressor.

While PCP powered pistols and rifles are new to me, gun powder has been a constant. Most of my pew-pews are based on the AR-15/10 platform, with long distance, (+500 meters), as my sport of choice. I also shoot pistols, trap and skeet. My interest in PCP rifles comes from my desire to shoot without the need to drive to the range or dropping two dollars every time I pull the trigger.

The first thing I did with my 250Z was take it apart. As everyone is probably aware, the Barra 250Z is a LONG rifle. And once you mount a moderator/suppressor, the length can become an issue. (FYI, the Barra 250Z absolutely requires an after market moderator to be back yard friendly - out of the box this puppy is loud!) To make the rifle easier to transport, in addition to a quick suppressor mount, I wanted to utilize a LAW folding buffer tube adapter. (a knock off - I'm not using a real LAW adapter that costs more than the rifle). I discovered the buffer tube on the Barra 250Z is not Mil Spec. I could not fit the LAW adaptor, or a standard AR-15 buffer tube. I had to run a 1 3/16"- 16 tap to open up the threads for a Mil Spec buffer tube/adapter.

All in all, the buffer tube was a personal mod - so no real issue. And after a good cleaning and reassembly, I have a pretty sweet back yard tack driver I can shoot for pennies a shot without upsetting the neighbors. Life is good!

FX  DRS pro and Saber Tactical stock

I ordered an FX DRS PRO, and cheaped out and ordered the saber tactical stock with it.
This has to be the worst stock for this gun ever:

1. the safety will bind up unless you adjust the set screw. It prevents it from going on SAFE. It shipped to me this way, locked on fire mode. WOW.
2. The default spot for the trigger blade makes it hit the trigger guard. Cannot move the trigger.
3. The rear stock screw collides with the trigger block, so even after you dig out a 1mm hex and adjust the trigger shoe, you cannot move the trigger. If the rear screw is tightened at all, it hits the trigger block and prevents it from moving.

I can't believe they shipped it to me in this condition. This was not a "free install" of the stock, this was slapping some bolts on and throwing it in a box. I really expected something functional for $2000, but what I got was just absolutely sad.

I'm going to be sending this saber tactical stock back, and asking for something that actually fits the gun I ordered with it.

Shopping a for Airguns , or parts Abroad.

Is is safe to shop at Alibaba ? There is message in my inbox about Trade Assurance , but I can't read ad the print is too small , and I don't have bifocals.
I like the prices they have on 700 cc air bottles. Do these guys have a warranty, or offer an extended that they will actually provide , or honor of you have trouble with one of there products.
Same goes for AliExpress. OldVet wants to know.

Weird thought/question.....

Have any of you 3D printer guys ever thought about or tried printing plastic pellets? I figured speed would be off the charts & destabilizing but I was thinking about guys who are "locked down" in winter & shooting in their basements. Don't think I've ever seen a thread on here regarding this. Got me curious.

Beeman  New to me R8 is a keeper.

20250122_143342.jpg
Got this R8 (on the right) a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure I'd keep it or not because I didn't realize how heavy they are. Then I liked it less after I shot it. The barrel shot to the right a fair bit, accuracy wasn't great, it was dieseling and the extreme spead was something like 60. Obviously it needed work.

Apart in the shop it got worse. The threaded receiver was already too loose and rotates past alignment. Which I thought odd because this gun's never been apart. Every other threaded receiver rifle I've worked on were very tight the first time apart.

Then I found the piston seal lip was all chewed up. This explained the dieseling and huge extreme spread. There was a corresponding rough piece of braze sticking up in the end corner of the compression tube that was chewing up the seal lip. This is really bad because it'll perpetually trash every replacement seal. Effectively making the gun trash.
20250218_123934.jpg

Then I went to the barrel. It has the roughest cut leade I've ever seen, a loose bore and no choke. I recently had a R7 sent to me with a similar barrel and the accuracy was terribly inconsistent. The only practical option was to replace it. Problem here is R8 barrels don't grow on trees.

On top of all this I messed up the only good part on the gun when I knocked it over and lightly dented the stock. Between all these things wrong and the denting the stock I almost wanted to cry. After all I couldn't sell it knowing all these things wrong with it. My only choice was to try to fix it.

I wont get into details but after a good bit of head scratching I finally figured out how to fix the comp tube. I replaced the piston seal with a Vortek seal. Locktited the receiver and did all the other regular tune stuff. I rolled the dice on the barrel as is and would worry about fixing it if it wasn't accurate. Then the weather went to ship and wasn't able to test it for over a week. Until today.
Screenshot_20250222_172332_ShotView.jpg

I'm very happy to say the gun is accurate and a joy to shoot. The energy calculation is a little off because the actual pellet was 7.33gr. It's actually 8.67 fpe. I'm quite proud of the chronograph numbers. A single digit extreme spread over 45 shots is pretty darn good. The accuracy is much better than I'd ever expect from a loose chokeless barrel with a crappie leade. Certainly good enough for me. Especially considering this is only initial testing in less than ideal conditions. These are five shot groups (circle OD is 0.562") at 25 yards.
20250222_171621.jpg

After today's succesful testing I gifted it a Beeman Honey Dipper and a new breech seal

FWB  FWB 150 I'm Obsessed

So I pulled the trigger on a Feinwerkbau 150 on E-bay last week. Had recently been serviced and I wanted to try an FWB with the side lever. Amazing seller, literally received within a couple of days (he also lives in Florida). I asked what was done and he casually replies that it was tuned by David Slade. No other info. Shoots like a dream. 6.2 fpe with JSB 7.33. Ridiculously accurate, no perceptible recoil, it came with the original diopter sight but I immediately put on a scope. I wanted to shoot it like all my other springers at 25 to 50 yards. Wanted to wait for a windless day but couldn't. Shot two 30 yard challenge cards with a significant cross wind. Still impressed. I thought this deserves it's own thread, I don't know much about these rifles. I read somewhere (here) that they were made from 1962-1963. Which would be cool since I was born in '63. And now I want to try the 300 series...

My first PCPs

Thank you for the advice. My sons surprised me with this Avenge X .25 with scope and barrel band from Pyramid Air. I’m so grateful!! I ended up buying a compressor and a Benjamin Kratos from Air Gun Revision. My sons also bought me a plenum that I have no idea what it does. Oh they also bought me a DFL Sumo. I haven’t played with them yet. I’m so happy and excited!!

Long DRS in ,177 flavor

My friend got one of these, there just is one problem, i feel it is opening the valve for too long wasting air, though it is reasonable accurate pushing 13 grain slugs.
but sound wise it just sound as if there is a lot of waste air, it actually feel as if the rifle have a recoil, though small of course, but shooting the same speeds with my Two i do not have a feeling of a recoil.

The problem is i think, in .177 the single small hole transfer port, CUZ to get a 13 grain slug up to 970 fps i have to use a regulated pressure of 120 bar, and i shoot my Two with 80 BAR, mind you that do have a dual transferport and a pin probe as standard.

It just feel and sound as if the shots cycle are way too long the DRS is also 49 db where my two are 46 db ( same barrel length same moderator, same ammo )
But i can not go down in regulated pressure and get the speeds i want

Also it is as if no matter what pressure the hammer spring adjuster need to be all the way in to get a flat ish shot string.
Also when i have gotten a fairly flat string,,,,,, well in 20 - 25 shots or so, it is back to looking like a profile picture of a tour de France mountain stage, and i dont get how it can do that, it is not like one end drop, its just like a bigger gap is inserted so i do not feel like the otherwise free floating hammer adjuster is backing out.

PCP Rifle  SOLD REDUCED (AGAIN) - Dreamline .25 Walnut, .22 Zelos priced to move…

Oh boy… I really don’t want to sell any of my PCPs buuuut a while back wife approved a maximum of 9 to keep my childlike enthusiasm for these things from breaking the bank. Anyway, during the last months I made a couple of “mistakes”, leading to a larger than 9 number… And even though I really don’t want to sell any, happy wife happy life I guess. Plus I am very fortunate in that she supports all my different interests, whether she shares them or not, so not going to push it (further). I know I know, has nothing to do with the guns but needed to get it off my chest since i don’t want toooo… Anyway, here go the two I am probably going to miss the least (in relative terms since I’ll definitely miss them).

.25 Dreamline classics, walnut:
STX barrel, awesome shooter, lost count as to the number of squirrel souls absorbed by it. Sitting in a nice walnut stock with sling studs attached. Currently sporting a 1.2-6 LVPO since this is one of my favorite hunters to carry into the woods (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0B9SJK9FY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=1).

Currently set up to shoot 25gr at 882 and tuned to perfection for them, shot a string and groups this morning for this add, ES 3 / SD 1.4, see pics (unsorted straight from the tin AEA pellets). Groups pictured are at 45 yards from bags in light crosswind (4mph) with the LPVO (center dot is larger than the groups at 45 yards since this one is for hunting :)). You get about 40 shots at this tune from a 230b fill. Comes with one mag and QD fillprobe.

Price: Well, wife says if not selling I priced wrong… so $700 650 600 shipped CONUS without the scope. $800 730 680 if you want the scope and rings but I don’t mind keeping it (and I don’t have a limit for scopes :)). This is the last reduction, I’ll keep it listed for a bit, after that it’ll become a gift to a buddy’s kid. I promised to list at a price to move the rifles, which this is (imho), so firm. PP FF or add the fees, Venmo, Zelle if you prefer. If you get the Zelos as well 5% bundle discount on ALL prices since you save me a trip to ship :) Same in case you want to pick-up/meet and pay cash in Orange County, NY.

.22 Zelos: SOLD AGAIN PENDING FUNDS Available again, buyer changes his mind and asked for a refund…

Got this one to see what the fuzz is about and have to say the hype is real… Only adjusted the hammer and drilled the plastic piece underneath the buttpad to access the hammer without taking it apart. Now it is shooting 18gr at 936fps with an ES 7 / SD 1.5 (unsorted but washed and lubed AEA pellets), shot the string and groups in the pics this morning for this add. Groups at 45 yards in light 4mph crosswind with the cheapo bipod and a rear bag.

Scope is a 4-16 westhunter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CYSN2QMS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title), cheapo bipod that’s serving me well though. Comes in original box and with the two factory magazines.

Price: $320 shipped CONUS without scope and bipod. Add $20 for the bipod and another $120 for scope and rings in case you want either or both with the rifle. As said above promised to price to move to get back to my legal limit of 9, hence firm. PP FF or add the fees, Venmo, Zelle if you prefer. If you get the Dreamline as well 5% bundle discount on ALL prices since you save me a trip to ship :) Same in case you want to pick-up/meet and pay cash in Orange County, NY.

Tool Alert ‼️

A friend of mine recently bought this and was raving about it so I spent the $26. I cannot believe how powerful this is!

It comes with different tips. I tried the one with the nozzle the .5” diameter, matched up with your Dewalt Battery-you’ll need to supply that-Phenomenal. It’s great for blowing away dust, Drying water off of a car, detailing your PCPs, appliances, grills, etc. This will save a you lot of hassle.

IMG_3941.png

IMG_3940.jpeg

Let’s talk ergonomics and/or maybe just feel for a second.

I currently own 4 PCPs, all in .22, and all in bullpup configuration. They are an EDgun R3M, an FX Wildcat( Mk1 heavily modified), an FX Impact (M3 compact) and an AGT Uragan2 (700mm) that I recently got from Derrick Wall. For some reason, off which I am sure many of you will understand, I’m wanting to add a new gun. All I know at this point, is that it won’t be a .22 bullpup. I do prefer short guns and obviously favor bullpups, I just don't need another In .22. So three things kinda blow my skirt up and they’re just as different as can be. I love the idea of a short Vixen as has been discussed recently in a couple of threads, but in .177 for lower noise and more shots. An FX King (GRS version) in just about any caliber would be wildly different than anything I currently own. And JaceSpace1369’s .30 Vulcan3 in the classified section really gets me going.
So this brings me to my dilemma, and my reference to ergos and feel in the thread title. See, of my 4 current guns, the two FX just have a feel that make me want to hold and shoot them. The Wildcat shoulders and points like a dream, and the cocking ergonomics and vault like solidity and smoothness of my Impact really bring a smile to my face. My U2 on the other hand doesn’t come close when it comes to these things. I know that once I’ve had the opportunity to put in some trigger time with it, its other attributes (huge power and accuracy with heavy slugs) win me over, but I haven’t yet fallen in love. This honestly is what’s keeping me from reaching out on that beautiful Vulcan or from ordering a new Vixen. The King is beautiful and will likely provide some of the feel I love about my other FX guns, but the length of a traditional rifle might detract some. For reference, almost all of my powder burning rifles are registered SBRs, and I keep eyeing some of the ones that aren’t thinking that I should do the paperwork to make them 6 to 8 inches shorter. Did I mention that I like compact guns?
The purpose of my long winded thread is not to ask you good folks what I should do or how I should spend my money, though if you have a strong opinion, lay it on me baby, I’ll listen. I’m really wanting to hear stories and experiences from those who maybe have been in a similar position. Have you ever come out of your comfort zone only to be glad you did, or did you find it to be to your detriment? Short gun aficionados who found love and warmth in the embrace of a long gun, tell me your tale. Vice versa? Or what about learning that what you thought might not have been a good fit, turned out to be something that just took some getting used to, and now everything else seems weird. Yep. Specifics work too. Did your AGT gun become the love of your life only after a few dates? While we’re on specifics, (though like I said, I'm NOT ASKING) if you wanna just tell me I'm an idiot for not buying JaceSpace1369’s Vulcan 3, fire that right at me too. Unless you’re JaceSpace1369 of course.

Ok, even if you’re JaceSpace1369 you can tell me that. 😁
