I woke up about 4 this morning and couldn't shut my brain off. Went out to lay on the couch and watch some mind numbing YT. There's something scratching around inside the window a/c mounted in the wall. Birds, mice? Bang on it a few time, heard some birds chirp then silence. Lay back down, more scratching. So I just turned it on to flush it out or scare it away. It spits out a flying jerk into my living room. The room was illuminated by the television only, I can't tell if its a bird or a bat, Please be a bird. Armed with one of my house shoes I made my way to the front door to leave it open. It's dive bombing me and isn't concerned with the giant opening that I have created for it that leads to wide open spaces. I ventured back across the room to a lamp, turn it on and Oh GOOD! It's a bat. It's flying around in circles dive bombing both my dog and I, most likely trying to eat our faces. In hindsight there may have been a better option but I grabbed the Beeman 1358 turned on the red dot and went to work. It would land on the wall for a split second before dismounting off dropping down and to the right. I backed down the hallway a bit so I wasn't directly in its flight path and waited for my opportunity. First shot it ducked, second shot goes through the metal, I don't see where it went and it's not flying around anymore. Wonderful... Waiting for it to come out of no where and fly at my face again. Dogs freaking out because he doesn't like guns, I'm shooting in the house and randomly screaming every once in a while. Not to mention the jerk trying to eat his face. Found him twitching on the hearth directly below my second shot.
You can see the first shot in the cement board above and to the left of the hole in the metal. Well I'm awake now.
The front door has been wide open this entire time. Should probably do a head count real quick. Couple mornings ago started at 3:30am with a farm kitten somewhere in the house. It took 9 hrs and a lil help from my dads childhood Red Ryder to find and get this frantic kitten captured and back to his momma. It had somehow managed to find it's way under the steel bathtub in the trailer house part of the house. We had built an addition on to the trailer house. I couldn't coax the thing out with food so I punched a hole in the back wall just big enough for the barrel of the Ryder to shoot through. Stuck the barrel in the hole and blind fired a few shots. Went back around to the other side where I could see under the tub. Cat was gone and had managed to find a crack in my defenses I constructed around the Jacuzzi tub in my bedroom. I'm allergic mind you and coming to be at my wits end with this critter. Hours had gone by and I'm starting to reconsider my options. Stab it with a arrow/broadhead? Treble hook snag? Beeman...... There was a lose board under the tub, I was able to pin the cat down with it and drag him out to where I could pick it up without getting scratched/bitten.
Did my time to eat cat food whistle to get every body on deck for a head count and guess who's missing. Same lil troublemaker. I heard some growling under the stairs, he was down there eating the bat.
Thank goodness!
That'll be enough early morning indoor critter hunting for a while now. I should probably check to make sure neither of those shots made it through the wall and into the triple wall stove pipe.
