Cecil Whiteside Collection

This is my first post on AGN, though I made 2,300 on The Yellow many years ago.
I got sidetracked with powder-burners and airplanes for the past decade, but all the new airgun designs have me hooked again. I just bought a Giffard 8mm
from Davis Schwesinger, who is selling his 1000+ airgun collection.
We were talking about his old friend Cecil Whiteside's collection. I mentioned that I cataloged all of Cecil's guns in 2009 or 2010. I spent 4 days counting them
and wished that I'd taken pictures.
While searching through old pics today I found that I did!
I wanted to share them with Davis, and then thought maybe everyone might like to see them.
It looks like I can only post 20 pics at a time, but I have 158 broken into 69 groups.
If you want to see more, I'll try to add them in additional posts.

Accurate .22 slug shooters?

I'm making a list of rifles that can shoot 25+ grain .22 cal slugs at 950+ fps for "accurate" long range (over 100 yds) target shooting.. Most of the really accurate shooters I've tried just aren't designed for slugs and/or don't have the power for heavier slugs. So far my list includes:

FX Impact / Maverick / Dreamline (?) with the heavy liner (never shot one but plenty of others have)
AEA Challenger Pro (I had one and sold it)
Airforce Condor (what I'm currently shooting but it needs to be externally regulated for consistency)

Surely there are others that belong on this list?

Second day out with the new Taipan Shorty.

Took the taipan out after doing a bolt check on the tripod because the head was loose yesterday causing a lot of unnecessary movement that, didn't feel right to me and now makes sense after I found the loose bolt holding the ARCA head on (lot of up and down movement yesterday).

What a difference. This tripod is awesome. Easy to setup, 2 levels, a pouch for snacks or ammo, and it's own matching carry bag.

Set the taipan up at 50 from the target, that's a full mag, 2 fliers are on me, the other 8 in that hole. All this from a compact right out of the damn box shooting nothing special ammo with a little barrel, see last pic so you can see where the actual barrel ends. It's not long.

Also had the @targetforge KRL setup at 40 , still got more practice to do. (After I took some sighters I forgot to change mags, so there is a mag change before the very last target)

Tomorrow it gets a body count

Good choice for a PCP Compressor ($399) the ToAuto A3 (Full Review) 12v/110v/220v

20220630_094153.jpg

Hey guys. This seems like a really nice compressor. This is the ToAuto A3 but they also sell an A2 (smaller). This is half the price of the NOMAD and it's probably a better compressor. This is a quick look and test of this feature rich compressor. Great affordable PCP pump. Thanks for watching! -Nate

AGT AGT AGT!!! Wowzers…. What am I missing?

Just getting back online to the Airgunning community and seeing this somewhat new manufacturer, AGT, producing what looks on paper to be some of the most versatile, feature packed, robust, accurate, reliable, and with a high degree of quality of craftsmanship, commercially available PCP’s on the market with the Vixen and Uragan in particular. Is this for real?
Short version, I am in the market to add to my collection and finding my self lusting 😍 over the Uragan 2 and Vixen vs the AA S510 TDR and FX Dreamline. What I am missing? Almost seems to good to be true, is AGT for real? Seems as though AGT is offering comparable or better level of quality, precision, construction and definitely bringing more innovative modern design to the table on so many levels for comparable price compared to FX, AirArms, etc.🤷‍♂️

Longer version. I’ve Been Airgunning for over 20 years now, had many springers from GAMO’s through custom Russ BEST Tuned Beeman R7 and Best Tuned R9, a handful of PCP’s over the years, (Logun Gladiator, custom Talon Tunes AF Talon P, various Marauders from unmolested to fully ported high powered Bullpups, couple of AirArms, etc). A stickler for overall quality, precision, accuracy, and usability I quickly culled the budget air guns from my collection retaining my favorites from back then, the Russ-Best Tuned R7, AA S510 FAC Xtra in .22, AA S200-B in .22 w/10 round magazine, (rebadged CZ 200T), and of course a few Daisy Red ryders for when family comes to visit for a session of long range balloon busting and soda can cutting in half competitions.😜 The S200-B is my primary go-to, the S510 is a close 2nd, both are now over 15 years old with well over 10,000 plus rounds through each, still as accurate and fun as they were the day I received them, the S200-B recently started leaking air so while it is under the knife so to speak thought that I’d look into adding to the collection. For my missions primarily small pest control, informal target and plinking shooting some weeks almost daily, sometimes may go a week or 3 not. Any how I had settled on either the AA S510 TDR or an FX Dream Line, possibly a Dreampup or Wildcat. LOVE the concept of Bull pups but from my previous experience with them there is one attribute that was enough of annoyance that I’m a bit trigger shy to try another, and that is the height of the CG of the ones I have owned/handled have been top heavy, feels like they want to flop over to either side requiring a bit more focus and attention to the hold vs standard rifle designs. Though seeing this Uragan and how the trigger itself is directly below the barrel “behind” the air tank vs “under” the air tank like most other BullPups that seems it would lower the CG of the gun considerably all but eliminating that top heaviness I experienced leaving all the wonderful benefits of the Bull Pup design, shorter over all length with a full length barrel, neutral fore aft balance with lower polar monument while packing it about, etc.

Hello AEAC Fans!

This will be the first of several RMAC 2022 videos I'll be sharing.

On the way are lots more shooter interviews and lengthy RMAC Vendor Booth interviews, as well as an EPIC long interview with last year's RMAC winner Keith Gibson, where he spills all the juicy tech-secret & tune beans on his RMAC 2021 winning FX Impact!

Enjoy!!

FOUND WWT ? for longer range optic

I have a benjamin fortitude that is all decked out sitting in a boyd's at one thumbhole stock with crosman LW barrel and custom internals, I have a PP750 that was drop shipped to a tuner before I got it and I also put a 3D printed cheek riser on it as well. I also have a lot of misc pellets from 17-30 cal that I could part with some of those as well. Looking for something to put on a gun to shoot 100 yards plus. Let me know if your interested. I'm also on GTA, same handle. Thanks.

Polished my FX Crown .177 Barrel Bore this morning

Hello everyone,

Finally received all of the required items to do a “polish job” on the bore of my FX Crown .177 cal rifle barrel yesterday. This morning I removed the barrel and did a through cleaning of the bore until nothing but clean patches were coming out. I did make one small adjustment to the process, I divided the barrel into 3 sections rather than 4. This being a 600mm ( 24-inches ) long barrel I felt like 3 sections of 8-inches long would work the best. I’m not sure if it was my imagination, but the center 8-inches sure felt a bit tighter when running the bore mop through it. The bore mop itself was a darker color ( dirtier looking ) than the other two mops so I am guessing more material was removed. If there were any micro imperfections in that section, I’m hoping that the polish work did what it is supposed to do and remove them. Now I cannot wait to do some target shooting and see if there is a definite improvement in the accuracy of this rifle.

Have a great day,
ThomasT

Saying good bye to the Alpha 🐺

After much reluctance I'm sending the alpha 🐺 on its way.

Why? ... I did not buy it to shoot pellets and since daystate does not publish barrel specs for whatever reason, I could not know that it would not shoot slugs well at the distance I wanted, so it left me with no choice. The .25 and .30 cal options shoot slugs, why slow down the twist rate in the .22? The jsb knock outs did well at 50 , after 50 yards they started destabilizing and it was extremely clear. At 100 the groups were 6 inch groups with the occasional lucky strike of two slugs touching on target, wind was non-existent yesterday.

My taipan compact was shooting BETTER with 18.14 pellets than the alpha was with the jsb knock outs (best slug I could find for it) , bust out the pellets and the alpha wolf .22 is a winner... but I don't want to shoot pellets with it.

The rifle is SICK, it looks sick, it is sick to shoot, the fit , finish, and feel is top freaking notch but it won't do what I want. So bye bye.

Which do you prefer? TX 200 or Pro Sport

I took these 6 beautiful ladies out together to get a bit of comparison. Some members name their rifles. Here’s my thought, I used to go to The Hockey Show, it was for retailers, in the 90’s and it was in Montreal. I wasn’t a Bar Fly but we went to Chez Paris, the classiest strip bar on planet. They had at least 30-40 strippers. All gorgeous. I’m naming my Air arms after them.
Wow I didn’t mean t send so early, my mistake, not finished writing.
Here my harem. 725DCAE6-524B-472C-A76E-BC2DA6741A0B.jpeg The only problem I had was my first choice, MK3 .22, the cocking lever was difficult to release, too tight. Is there a remedy for this?
These rifles constantly stack pellets, all of them.
The big downfall for me is on the 200’s loading. F12D0A66-98FC-48F2-BC3A-FAF003CD1B18.jpeg I sit when shooting and found the 200’s slid off my leg twice when the bear trap catches. The Pro Sport doesn’t have this nuisance.
I actually don’t mind cocking the PS, I find they put a little curve at the end of the lever, which fits like a ring, comfortable. D0AE658D-4E10-4E8C-BA87-E1CD7B9B493E.jpeg.
These rifles are all stock, no modification yet.
My choice no doubt would be the Pro Sport.
What’s yours and why?(

Weihrauch Springer Barrel Length Question

I see tons of reviews on HW97K, and HW98 that brag about great accuracy, but the barrel is only 300mm long. (They do make a long version of the 97 with 440mm barrel)... If these reviews are true, why would one want something longer than 300? They have various models with 300, 370, 395, 410, 440, 470 and 500mm barrel length. Sorry for the old-school compare, but all are listed from Krale below..
