One hole group challenge - smallest group size

I know, right? Usually it was either the first shot or last shot that opened up the group. I'm getting lots of practice on my hold and holding steady. I'll see if that helps with indoor 25yd this winter.

It is not the rifle movement that usually get me - well from the rest. It is the trigger pull and hold on the grip. A total free recoil process doesn't seem to be consistent enough to work with my rifle. I need to have a lite, but not too lite, grip with the trigger hand. The variation is there for me. A center bag with the rifle essentially on its balance point as a rear bag doesn't work either. I can't have the butt against the shoulder either.

This exercise (for me) is finding the hold that works and then developing muscle memory. When we shoot groups very nearly the same size as the pellet diameter, then the slightest variation from any external influences will open the group. There are no fliers, per se, just variances. For this reason I'm not convinced a true one hole group is possible, but really teeny groups are. Now if I can shoot all five bulls with teeny groups, then I'm ready for indoor 25 yard.

The smallest I have 5-shot group with the TX has been at 50 feet. It was a moth or so ago. I didn't measure outside to outside. I used range buddy to cover it. It was on a USA/NRA 50 (2006) target.

I actually had video of shooting it but is is the very minute details that really break it.

Thanks….this slug gun has been my obsession for a little over 2 years now. The goal has been to be competitive with the best Unlimited Rimfire shooters and their equipment. It’s really, really close now.

Mike
They will hate you for that Mike lol!
So amazing what you have done.
Thanks for sharing your successes with us.

Shot again today with the JSB S100 wadcutters. I just guess the HW44 is not a huge fan of JSB. I weigh sorted to groups less than a tenth of a grain and head sorted as well. They are also lubed with spray furniture wax. Best I could do was mid 6 mm. So I tried the H&N Baracuda FT 9.57 "hand sorted quality" pellets that do so well in my HW44. This pistol LOVES these pellets. The targets below are shot after a long session with the mediocre JSBs and the center target has 10 shots - the other 4 are 5 shots each. I was getting tired and wobbling a bit or I could have made true one hole groups! By the way, these shoot high left but I didn't adjust cross hairs or hold - was going for groups. These pellets are advertised on can as 4.50mm dia.

Hello @rsfrid

Ross that is incredible shooting on number two (y) (y) (y) (y) (y). I sure hope that you put that target under glass in a picture frame and hang it on the wall. Very well done.

Now what are you going to do  for the rest of the winter.

Ya, between me or this pistol can have a bad shot . Most times its its first shot is bad then the rest in a string yend to be stable/good. I need to tember to shoot the first shot in the wind then go on target, but my old fuzzy brain dont allow that thinking.

The Diana Airbug runs on CO2 cartridges (4 mags per cartridge) and doesn't need pumping. It's a great little pistol if you’re still looking for one.

Ya, that crosman 38c was co2 it was a good shooter but the co2 hassle then the prick pin and seals went. After it i swore off co2. One less item to buy anddeal with. Like pellets i can only get flat/wads when i go to big town .

And thats my point here for this.

I try to get cleaner holes to view but without flathead/wadcutter its not easy .

I yried a thin cross bulls to help but , not much.

This spread was 1.2mm but its like you cant really see that in the picture, ya,know? Oh well i try

Hello everyone

Weather turned out good this afternoon so I moved my small benchrest outside and shot with my Diana Chaser at 10-meters. Put four shots really close together and then blew it on my fifth shot.

I do that more often than not. It's perhaps a case that in these teeny groups, what we wouldn't have considered a flier before, now becomes one. Consider that the "flier" is less than a millimeter away from main group! Nice shooting.
