20-30+ MPH winds, M4, ZAN 37g @1000 FPS, and some High Definition Carnage! ☠️

My elevation was spot on, though admittedly the gusting conditions made the windage calls on the 100-150y shots a bit challenging. But overall, we crushed a ton of pest birds! I'll upload some individual video clips as I find time to splice them together.

PCP Rifle  NLA FX impact MK 2 for sale

This is a MK2 that has a 500mm barrel in 25cal. It has a bigger bottle. I sent this off to one of the gurus of impact work here on AGN to go through. He rebuilt the reg and completely broke down and replaced every oring in the gun and tuned it originally for the Jsb mk2 34grainers. It shoots lights out. I had him put a saber tactical bag rider on it. An airmarksman medium backbone. He replaced all the screws with stainless ones. I had him put the FX impact mk 3 ambi cocking block and lever on it. It is set up on the left side for a south paw now. It has the K&L pellet probe block on it. It has the saber tactical check riser on it and the saber tactical pic rail on it as well. It has a new ball and spring in the valve adjuster, new power wheel spring(hammer spring). It has a black arts barrel band and the fx 2 screw barrel clamp on it. A 0DB moderator. One factory mag and 2 new mags and speed loader for it never used still in box made from a guy off of AGN. It will ship in fx case. Asking 1150 plus shipping to lower 48. FX  M4 converted from MILD .22 pellet pusher to WILD .25 slug monster

I had UA convert this M4 from a .22 pellet shooter to a .25 slug shooter. They installed a 700mm .25 Superior Heavy barrel/liner, and a .25 Slug Power Kit (probe, spring, hammer weight). I installed an AirMarksman Loki rail, Sportsmatch adjustable rings, Element Optics Nexus G1, Hawke Frontier Red Dot on a 45 degree offset mount (for 20y or less quick shots), a digital gauge (regulator), Impulse Air 1350, and an 580cc 300b AirMarksman bottle and valve. The goal was to make a relatively high powered (80-100 FPE) .25 caliber slug gun for hunting pest birds at the local Feed Lots.

If you're interested in learning how to tune an Impact this is a great video:

In a nutshell... I started by opening the valve return all the way. I started with the regulator about 120b and the QTS about 2. Then I gradually increased the regulator and QTS until I reached the desired velocity (actually exceeding it by 20-30 FPS), then I used the valve return knob to close the valve quicker which decreased the muzzle report, wasted air, and dropped the peak FPS by about 20 FPS. My reg is set at 155b, and the QTS about 3.5.

I was using the H&N 36g slugs for all the tuning. Once I had them "happily" shooting 1040 FPS, I cleaned the barrel using a Patchworm, and I took it outside to see how it would group at 50y.

To my surprise neither the H&N 34g, 36g, or the ZAN 35g, 37g would group above 1030 FPS. I left the reg and the QTS at 3.5 and went to work reducing the valve return. As soon as the velocity dropped to +/- 1000 FPS everything started grouping great.

By that time I had almost ran out of H&N 36g slugs so I changed to focus on the ZAN 37g slugs. They found their happy place at 990 - 1000 FPS. That gave me a solid 82 FPE with a BC of .107

I zero'd the Hawke Red-Dot for quick shots at 10-20y. I optically centered the scope, and then zero'd it at 42y using the Sportsmatch adjustable rings. I added the scope & projectile data into the Element Ballistic App and that gave me a zero hold at 30, 40, 50y, and hold-over after that.

I moved off of the bench and onto a standing tripod at 75 - 80y. I dialed the elevation turret to 1.0 and shot (2) 5 shot groups which was enough to instill confidence for the next days hunt.

I quickly connected and tested my Side-Shot scope camera

Then I pre-loaded a bunch of Stud Mag Loader magazines & Feeders, and packed up the rest of my gear.

Want to horde a little O-rings.

But where to get them, most companies i find only sell like 100 min or even 250 for some sizes, and that is a bit more than i want to horde something i will not use very much.
And locally it seem even harder, which is just freaky to me even when i mean local as in the EU territory.

Where do you guys buy O-rings like 25 / 50 for a given size ?

N/A  Wanna get fancy

A co worker picked one of these up a while back and has had some good feedback. We use it on hydraulic systems but the brochure says it’s good for air also. I’m real tempted on picking one up. They are quite a bit bigger than the average gauge but a few rifles have the space. I’m thinking of the bottom plug on an MK2 Rapid. https://phoenixsensors.com/products/wireless-pressure-transducer-weps04/

Distance between lane stakes

I looked thru the AAFTA rules to see if the was a minimum/maximum distance between lane stakes and I’d not see anything. I thought there was a rule for this. I went and read the WFTF rules and they have a one meter minimum spacing between lane stakes rule. I don’t really care if there is an AAFTA rule on this or not and not trying to stir up the pot. I have been working on an extra set of lane stakes for ASC to use at their GP/RoT match next month and Nationals later in the year. I got to thinking if there is a spacing requirement I would build a couple spacing jigs to make set up faster. Just figured I would ask to make sure I didn’t miss something in the AAFTA rules.

FX  Pellet weight for a 35/50 meter shooting competition

Hi,

This will be my first time taking part in a shooting competition, which is at a distance of 35 (sitting) and 50 meters (bench rest). I have an FX DRS .177 using H&N Baracuda 10.65gr pellets shooting at 830 fps apprx. This set up is pretty accurate at 20 meters (only distance available to me). Will it be useable for the 50 meter competition, or do I need to change anything here? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

FWB  FWB 300 S makes winners out of everyone

Last night my oldest son and his wife and my middle son came over for dinner. Afterwards we went to the basement to shoot a bit. My daughter in law was born in Chicago and had never even shot a gun before and to my delight was eager to give it a go. She was shooting bullseyes right off the bat and was thrilled with the experience. By the end of our shoot each kid had cut a card. Everyone had a blast, especially me and I never fired a shot 😁

Velocity for barn gun

I did a little test this afternoon of penetration versus velocity using my Prod. I shot at old scraps of 22 gauge steel roofing. Projectiles were 14.66 grain H&N pellets and 14.3 grain Crosman pellets. The gun started off shooting at 680 fps and zipped right through at 30 yards. At 561 fps it did not go through at 30 yards but did at 15 yards. At 466 fps it did not go through but was close based on the shiny edge of the dent on the back side. So I would say 450 should be OK at 15 yards or more. Curiously the Airgun Revisions barn gun is a 25 caliber at 450 fps. My guess is 25 grain will penetrate less at a given velocity and a 177 more. Heavier pellets should also penetrate more.

For small birds a 22 shooting 14.33 grain at 450 fps might be OK but that is only about 6.5 fpe. A 25 caliber shooting 25 grain at 450 would be about 12 fpe which seems more robust.

I'll include a couple pictures. Velocity as low as 370 fps made a quite noticeable dent at 15 yards.

Tuning  Tuning a spring piston?

What is involved in tuning a break barrel spring piston rifle? What improvements will it make? Accuracy, consistent shot placement, etc.? I may be asking a previously discussed topic/question. I did try to search before posting and found nothing that answered these questions. Also where can I find the parts to do this?
