Benjamin  Some Prod (and 1701P) ❤️❤️❤️

Lots of high end AGs lurking around but sometimes it’s nice to do some work on one of the old faithful. In this case, a P-rod that has been out on loan for a few months, working on some rats with a neighbor. Time for a refresh, squeezing out a bit more accuracy, efficiency and noise reduction, the latter of which was attacked from the action end as much as the muzzle.

This little pellet shooter has already come a long long way from stock with a reg, lightweight hammer, .42 spring, PEEK striker, porting and a pretty dress. For the latest revision, added a PEEK poppet with a 2mm diameter stem, increased porting to .140, shimmed the stock Crosman barrel to fit more snugly in the breech, polished the crown and added a combination shroud/moderator (which won’t be discussed here in keeping with forum rules).

The reg was bumped up to 120bar, with the goal of getting 24 shots from a 220bar fill, shooting the 15.9grain Hades. Knowing the way this lady sings from all the previous work, I figured that the setting should net a peak speed of ~750 fps, which would be dialed back to 725, around 18fpe.

That turned out to be very close with peak speed of 745 fps. The hammer was then dialed back to get the speed settled at 725fps. I then added a 2mm PEEK shim to increase tension on the valve spring, dropping the speed to 720fps. That added a noticeable snap and gave a very nice string from 3100psi (scuba tank really needs a refill…):

722, 718, 718, 724, 721, 716, 720, 722, 717, 720, 721, 719, 722, 720, 716, 722, 719, 719, 720, 718, 719, 717, 712, 693

Just dropping off the reg on shot #23, but should be good with a 3200psi fill. Kind of an arbitrary goal of getting 3 x 8-shot mags. Silly, considering that I just ordered two new 10-shot mags. The originals seem to have gotten a little gritty.

Anyway, as those in the know will know, the PEEK poppet is a real winner here, dropping the requirement for hammer and yielding a really snappy and quiet shot cycle. The shimming of the barrel into the breech seems to have tightened up the poi in the horizontal plane.

Here she is, sporting the Optisan 6, sat on her favorite rice bag. I’m expecting big things from this little gun in the accuracy testing tomorrow.

  • Question
Ever have a tank split while filling

Was filling my Hatsan 1.6l
Buddy tank and right around 3800-4000 psi I heard a weird aluminum tin can sound
I looked at my tank and noticed the carbon fiber separating
Shut the comp down and immediately opened the valve to dump the tank
This is what I found

Two more for the pot

Hit the local WMA this afternoon right at 4:00, on a dual purpose, looking for a pellet pouch I lost, and also looking to pop another tree rat or two.

Decided to set up ambush style near the little run off pond, hoping for a repeat performance of last Saturday's hunt.

I was positioned at the base of one of the hardwoods on the far left, and after less than ten minutes, spied a bushytail hop up on the deadfall cedar in the far right of the pic (pic taken last Saturday) - he was running back and forth, and then decided to have a drink, giving me a clear shot.

Collected my soggy kill, and moved on up the hill.

Probably made too much racket, as it took another 45 minutes or so before a shaking limb got my attention, but it was worth it. The tree rats were concentrating on a small oak, so I did my best to quietly maneuver close enough, and it was almost comical - there must have been at least 5 or 4 in the same small oak, but they would grab a nut, then come down the trunk, with me trying to track them in my scope, then hop on the ground and haul ass.

FINALLY - one took a different escape route and gave me a clear broadside shot -

Didn't find my pellet pouch, maybe next time?

Texas Hold ‘Em

The grays wanted to play a game of Texas Hold ‘Em this evening:

The House vs. the Huben. Four of a kind.

As you can see, the house lost a few members.

IMG_6746.jpeg

Two were brain shot, on was neck shot, and the other was double lunged. Pictured below was the final squirrel I shot today. There was a pursuit in which I abandoned my Primos Trigger Stick bipod and the kill shot was a quick acquisition shot. I only took one shot at her, at relatively close range - say 15 yards give or take. This photo isn’t staged. Actually I’m unsure if I’d rotated her for this photo or another one, both taken in the same spot, she was just moved in one of them. After reviewing the photos again, this one was taken first so that may be how she fell. The position she’s in is odd to me, but you can tell it was lights out. That is exactly where she fell. She hardly even twitched after hitting the ground.

Speed shooting bottle caps, chalk, cards, airsoft BB,etc

If you guys want to have some fun, shoot bottle caps, cards, chalk, airsoft BBs, etc…

Practice a lot, maintain a good rifle hold and develop your muscle memory.

Speed shooting is one of my ways for practicing but lately my carpal tunnel syndrome has worsened so I’m stuck to benchrest shooting WRABF/ERABSF BR25 and BR50 meters.

I tried some bottle caps yesterday and I’m not that fast as I used to…

Some pre-Halloween fun shooting at “jack o’lantern” bottle caps at 50 yards 🎃🎃🎃

N/A  I think I've reached a tipping point...

At 78 I am starting to reach a point where spring piston rifle are not going to work for me much longer. The HW97k is only a five shot rifle before I really struggle to cock it and I can feel the pain in my shoulder and elbow on the first cock. Even my little R7 starts hurting my shoulder and elbow after only 25 shots. I've decided to get rid of the HW97k but the R7 will stay as the grandson loves it. I also have an AirForce TalonSS but the ergonomics puts to much strain on my old neck so it must go. Guess I will be looking for another PCP.

Is 34 fps spread good on a 2k gun?

Ok. I see ppl saying their gun shoot 3-4 fps spread. Like Really? My gun is the fx impact mk2 .25 cal. Reg set to 140 bar. Valve on line 4. Power wheel is m3 set to number 10. Shooting jsb heavy mk2 33.9 gr brand new tin, un-sort. This my shot string from 250 bar. I shoot till it falls off reg, I only count the ones before it falls off reg. Is this good tune or can it be better? How are ppl getting less than 5 fps spread. Is that even possible? What is a acceptable spread for a 2k gun?

Scope Tape

My question is, When I re-zero my rifle does it make the scope tape inaccurate? Example, I zero my rifle at 25yds, I chronograph my pellet speed, I use StrelokPro and make my tape marked every 5yds from 40-100yds. My rifle does not loose zero unless accidentally knock around, but I check zero from time to time for minor adjustments... Does a click or two left or right up or down throw off my range tape (markings) on the turret?

Air Venturi 74 CU FT Air Tank issue

Today I received my new Air Venturi 74 CU FT Air Tank I started filling it with a compressor. when is got to about 298 bar it vented a little bit of air as if I had blown a burst disk. What was wierd is after it vented, it went back to filling with no leaks..I know when a burst disk blows thats it it need to be replaced but are thses tanks designed to vent somehow when the pressure get to high? Kinda shocked me so I stopped filling it. It reads on the compressor 268 bar but on the tank it reads 300bar. This is a 4500 psi tank so it should go up to around 310 bar

Many a-time I have purchased a air-gun and it had potential, seemed to be accurate,

But the trigger was awful, some could be adjusted better ,others you had to find ways of making it better.I think that a good trigger on a pistol is very important,it is just too easy to "pull" a shot on a pistol.
After pulling triggers tens of thousands of times,it is the the "trigger break" or 'let-off' for me that is most important.
Many guns need time to break in,like the wearing of the moving surfaces ,some triggers are just junk and will never wear-in,that is the time for you to smooth the moving parts.
Many of my Crosmans and Prods can have splendid triggers, the Crosmans can be fixed ,my Prods wear in great.
A trigger finger needs to be trained for feel, your mind, body, trigger integration also must be one.
Sight picture ,trigger pull, breath and follow through, all this comes together is seconds in offhand shooting; using a rest will make things too easy.
Offhand shooting well help you with all the above,it can become frustrating at times, but do not give up,I say this because once you set your butt down on a shooting bench your offhand shooting days well maybe over,..I see my ADD mind has wondered again, another reason shooting for me is such a joy, take aim and shoot ,how simple is that:unsure::ROFLMAO:

Atn xsight 5 240fps

So atn released their new model the xsight 5. It's supposed to record up to 240fps in 4k. But I can not find any videos on youtube showing this. Most ppl who review this scope is using it on a firearm and doing normal 30 fps. Specs says it can do 4k 240, why the f are these reviews only doing it 30fps. Smh. Anyone have the new xsight 5, can you confirm it can record 4k 240 fps. And is the video better than using a gopro scope cam at 1080p 240fps.

FX  Panther Hunter questions

Was gifted a 22 panther Hunter compact. pls help with some questions:

if I buy just a 300cc bottle and valve is there anything else I need to connect and add another bottle on the stock? I actually want to get the next size larger then put the front bottle at back. I have never had an FX so I’m not sure if there is anything else needed.

so hard to find parts always back ordered or not even sure if they sell it

the panther slug kit the harder hammer and probe would this allow me to shoot slugs better from my 22 with stock barrel?

i like 22 but are there kits for larger and longer barrels and plenum? I found on Europe airgun they sell the macro xl plenum for the panther not sure if this will work on Hunter compact as it look as it’s missing the shroud.
