Calculating Ballistic Coefficient

I was just working out formulas to calculate BC, one using the Chairgun method, the other using the Pyramyd air method (this sites calculator uses this method as well). Are any of you familiar with either? If not here is a quick peak:

PyramydAir (and the calculator here) uses a very simplified formula from Steve_NC IIRC:
bc = -(100000*(Distance)/(8000*LN(FarVelocity/NearVelocity))/100000

While Chairgun uses:
bc = (AirDensity* Distance) / ( SQRT(FarVelocity) - SQRT(NearVelocity))

Both give similar yet quite different results.

At 50 yards distance between measured velocities, 876 near and 762 far fps, the first formula gives a bc of .0448, while the second formula gives a bc of .0407 using my air density data through Chairgun. Even with more standardized air density, Chairgun calculates .049 bc with the above given data.

Anyone with thoughts or input?

I'd suspect the second formula is more appropriate but maybe someone here knows something I do not.

Oh, and what my air density method formula looks like in excel if you want a headache, (or to integrate it into your own spreadsheet) For GA bc

Temp in F, altitude in Ft, Humidity as RH %, Velocity in FPS.

=round((ROUND((((((101325 * EXP(-9.80665 * 0.0289644 * (Altitude*0.3048)/(8.31432 * ((Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15)))-Humidity/100*6.112*EXP((17.67*(Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15)/((Temp - 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15+243.5))*100)/(287.05*((Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15))+(Humidity/100*6.112*EXP((17.67*(Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15)/((Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15+243.5))*100/(461.5*((Temp - 32) * 5/9 + 273.15))))+(Humidity/100*6.112*EXP((17.67*(Temp - 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15)/((Temp- 32) * 5/9 + 273.15-273.15+243.5))*100/(461.5*((Temp - 32) * 5/9 + 273.15))))*0.062428)*0.026068* DistanceYards) / ( SQRT(Near Velocity) - SQRT(Far Velocity)),5)),4)

Air Arms  Getting real and practical

My last couple of times out after pest squirrels, I missed just too many easy targets, so I set up a target to see what was going on-was it the gun, the wind, or me? At both 25 and 50 yards my POI was markedly to the left. There was a decent breeze, so I switched direction and shot 180° in the opposite direction…still shot to the left. I decided to shoot in a more controlled setting-a real shooting range, to get a definitive understanding of what was going on. I expected mild winds, but once again it was breezy. Upshot, when it’s windy, for me at least, I’m gonna keep it under forty yards. I had too many misses and too many wounded furballs make it back to their burrows. BTW-the gun is an older 22cal pre-safety AA s410 with a Meopta scope.

Shot about 50 pellets through it. Just decided to move back to a rifle. The powers is unreal. I set it up to shoot about 40 round through it before needing a refill. It THUMPS! It is also very, very quiet. Turns out the moderator is way better than any Donnie. I was shocked. Light ans can be anll anround. Ask questions. SOLD

Do many of you check the calendar?

Curious if the calendar gets checked very often, or if mainly the competition shooters use it.
Wanting to put up our monthly funshoots to see if the info gets out to those who may want to participate. I tried doing it through the social feed and not too sure that is working. Figured if it was posted in "General," it would get lost as other threads were started.

EDgun  Edgun Leshy 2 in Austria

Greetings from Austria fellow airgun enthusiasts!

I am new to the forum and relatively new to Austria as well, I moved here 2 years ago. I am a previous owner of a .22lr CZ Brno Mod.2, Anshutz 335 .177 and Slavia 631 .177 and boy oh boy do I miss them dearly...had to sell them since bringing them here would be an administrative nightmare.
While binging on shooting and gun videos I recently stumbled upon a youtube video for the Edgun Leshy 2 and several months of reasearch later since I'm new to the PCP air gun world(apart from shooting rental PCP guns a few times), I can say that I am ready to bite the bullet! Only thing holding me back are the Austrian gun laws which I'm not familiar with, and German is not my mother tongue so I cannot really find the information I need.

In short, the Edgun Leshy 2 is not available for purchase locally so I would have to order it online and this is a bit scary for me because I don't know if I am allowed to do so, of course I want to be 100% compliant with the local laws.
The model I'm looking at is the Leshy 2 250mm in cal. .22 but I have a few questions for anyone local with experience @Steyr @Boris @scolopendra @Jarnold
1. Can I order it online and have it shipped to my home?
2. Is there a power limitation 7j 15j....etc? I know that up to 6mm guns are not regulated but not sure about kinetic energy, on Wikipedia it says there is no limit.
3. Is the fact that it's foldable an issue? I know it's illegal when it comes to centerfire/rimfire weapons but couldn't find any info about PCP regulation.
4. I'm thinking the length shouldn't be an issue since Steyr offers shorter PCP guns locally....but it would be nice to know for sure.

Sorry for the long post everyone, here's a little ADD break for you :) hope I'm not breaking the forum rules but I don't have any pics of the air powered ladies unfortunately.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Bronze FX M3 .177 / .22 WTS or WTT

List of Items:

Fx Impact M3 Bronze paired with 30MOA medium bonerail.

2 .177 FX mags with Orion inserts (OEM inserts will be going too.

1 .177 stud mag loader

500mm .177 barrel kit with superior barrel and CF barrel sleeve.

.177 pin and pellet probe.

4 Mags total ; 2 Fx mags w/ Orion inserts and 2 Hunter Tactical mags (favorite slug magazines). Fx mag inserts also included.

500mm .22 barrel kit with heavy 1:16twist and CF sleeve.

Houge fat grip.

Both barrels shoot pellets and slugs. I've taken iguanas as far as 144yds with this .177 barrel shooting slugs. I have also taken iguanas as far as 136yds with the .22 shooting slugs. They are not pellet picky either, so if you want to shoot cheap or expensive pellets it doesn't matter.

About 2 minths ago I did a reg rebuild, and changed all the orings in the reg housing area as well as removed the front reg. I do still have it incase anyone wants it, but I will have to find it. The gun is sound and not suffering from any leaks or problems, I just want a semi auto again.

If you want more pictures, let me know.

Price is $1650 shipped without the scope, or moderator or Trade for a Huben K1 .22

Traditional rifles ...

I see everywhere when traditional rifles are mentioned, it is referred to rifles looking more like wood stock hunting rifles as we know from the 1900s era.

I would think traditional would rifle is more like old muskets and flintlock and caplock for PB and more like the first PCP air rifles like the Girandoni and other PCPs from that era. Even on AGN Traditional Airguns is referring to springers, but springers were invented much later than PCPs, so PCPs should be referred to as traditional and not springers.

But at the end it is just words.

PCP Rifle  SOLD JSAR Raptor mini .25 cal

Up for sale is my Raptor mini I purchased from JSAR back in 2020.
Build number 78 according to serial.

The rifle is a bit different from the OE configuration.

1st thing is the original bottle (360cc) and reg have been replaced with a hero2 15ci/245cc carbon bottle and ninja flex reg.
This shaved a good bit of weight off the end of the rifle and made it a much better woods gun.

2nd upgrade is the OE valve which comes with the rifle was replaced with Don Cothran’s power house valve.

The rifle currently shoots 25 grain JTS pellets around 50ish fpe for about 40 shots on reg from 4500 fill.

The rifle shows a few minor scratches and paint wear in the usual places from field use but is in overall good shape and function as expected. No leaks..

Included is 2 carm mags, 3 OE mags, OE valve, and wrench used to adjust regulator.

Group below was shot at 40 yds.. typical 5 shot grouping with 25 grn JTS.

NO SCOPE INCLUDED..

Asking $850 shipped inside conus

I accept PayPal F&F option or you pay 3% fees.

Thanks for looking!!

Has 11mm rail. I have additional pictures that I can email. $795 shipped to where legal in the lower 48 states US. Preferred payment types are USPS Money Order, bank MO or PayPal F&F.. HW/Weihrauch  Quality Springer observation.

So like many of us here. I started off with a Gamo Break barrell which I still like and shoot often. Then a Hatsan that broke after 30 shots. Then a couple more Gamo’s

Meanwhile seeing all the threads on “Quality Springers and the common saying of “you don’t know until you shoot one”
So I just HAD to know” lol
So I got a HW95n Field Pro. Had it tuned.

And the biggest thing I’ve noticed besides the obvious quality of the springer.
Is when I miss my aim point. I know right away that it was me that caused the flyer. Instantly!
With my other break barrels. I always have tended to blame the pellet for being a flyer.
Now I can easily tell when it’s me. And sadly….. it’s usually me😂😂

Anyone else with a Quality springer noticed this?

When did Monstrum start making nice things?

I usually buy quality scope rings, caps and bubble levels for my scopes but recently bought a cheap Discovery scope. 2-12x24 HD for $160. The scope on my Taipan Long has MKM scope caps at $75 and lo pro billet bubble level which run around $50 and UTG PRO rings which are $50. I've paid more for rings in the past but for the money the UTG are really nice. That's more than the scope lol so looked for cheaper ones.

Luckily scope caps were included but I stumbled across rings and bubble levels from Monstrum. I always thought they were super cheap like CVLife and not worth the time. These looked nice though and thought why not try and see.

Paid $15 for the rings as they were on sale and $15 for bubble level. I'm very impressed with these. Quality seems well above what I paid for. The bubble level isn't filled with sludge like the other cheap ones that take a couple seconds to respond. It's actually very sensitive and nice and lo pro like my MKM. The rings fit the scope nicely and my rail also. I'm not saying the quality is better than my other more expensive ones, but for the money not sure I'd go with the others again. At least on a cheaper scope I for sure will be going with these again. The bubble level probably will be the only ones I buy here on out though.

FX  FX or other ?

I can’t take credit fully on this post , it was inspired by a newbie’s post regarding their upgrading to a tier 1 gun. Theirs was an “FX or not” , for which there was multiple opinions on both sides. If I remember correctly, the pro FX proponents claimed the tournament wins or strong showing touts FX superior build, those like myself and others claim, rightfully so, that these guns are specifically modified and tuned and not that way out of box. Whereas there and plenty of other brands that are rock solid, dependable, far easier to maintain. With both pellets and slugs, choked or unchoked barrels. One that starts into 50 or 100 yard target plinking doesn’t need to plunge into an FX impact to get great results. I would definitely advocate for simpler designed guns for new shooters to become familiar with, eventually, when the bug bites them, they can dive into FX . My stance favoring the EU brands is well established, I’m not intending this as a hit piece on FX. It’s just not a recommendation I’d give a newbie to PCP.
