PCP Rifle  WTS Fx Impact M3 800mm .22

Hello, I'm looking to sell/trade my FX Impact M3. Rifle has the 800mm tensioned barrel, 1st reg delete, human reg in 2nd position, trigger massaged to about 6OZs, saber tactical buttstock, and 300 bar 700cc bottle. Rifle does have a slow leak I have been unable to track down although honestly I haven't tried that hard since it doesn't affect the shooting. Targets attached are several 30 meter 5 shot groups shot back to back and then a 50 yard group with 25.4 grain fx pellets. Comes with slug power kit (not installed) and about 10 full oring kits. Only trade I'm interested in would be a vulcan 3 700mm in .22. Bare rifle 1600 bucks shipped in the continuous US.

PCP Rifle  WTS FX IMPACT M3 $1000

Local pickup preferred.
$1,000 picked up in San Jose, CA.
Comes with 800mm tensioned .30 barrel. Shoots like a laser.
Selling discounted because there are two screws stripped out along the top of the backbone that go into the stock of the rifle. This was my primary hunting/varmint gun for a while so it’s got some scrapes. Many upgrades. New rails, trigger face, tensioned barrel, etc…
The 2nd regulator seat is a big chewed up from adjusting so many times over its lifetime. Nothing that a new reg cant fix. Everything is functional.
Will come with plano hard case and mag.

Airguns vs. gun-guns for teaching kids.

I have have a nine year old boy that is showing some aptitude, if not some talent. I'm I taking anything away from his learning if I only teach from PCP pellet guns?

I've several real guns that are classically considered "the right gun" for teaching. A cricket single shot, ruger 10/22, M&P 15-22 and then all the intermediate caliber guns you'd expect and 20g shotguns.
But I just don't have any love for teaching fundamentals that don't include the extra things you have to know for Airguns.

Huben  The magic of the Huben GK1

Airgun guru Bob Sterne previously described a “lofty goal” for PCP design to obtain 50% of theoretical maximum power for a given caliber, barrel length and pressure:

As Bob mentions, 50% of theoretical power is a “lofty” goal because much power is lost to air propulsion, cooling and expansion, in addition to the friction of the projectile in the barrel. Hence, very few PCPs reach this goal and they tend to be specialist builds. Bob writes:

“Well, even the best custom PCPs have trouble reaching even 50% of the theoretical maximum power from a PCP air rifle for a single, maximum power shot, when using air. ”

And:

“I must admit to never quite achieving my “lofty goal” when using a bullet traveling at 950 fps or above, which is usually my target velocity. I can get to about 90% of my goal, for a single shot at maximum power, and other skilled builders have had similar results.”

For fun, knowing that it can be a very powerful beast, I decided to see how the GK1 fares in this context: I’m using data from @JDGriz, who ran a string from the .25 GK1 using the Altaros 50grain slug and recorded pressures:

JDGriz measured 88fpe at the GK1’s full power setting for the slug with a starting pressure of 350bar and a pressure after the shot of 330bar. So I’m going to say that the median pressure of the shot is 340bar, or 4931psi.

Now, if we use Bob’s lofty goal formula for .25 with an 8.2in barrel, the “lofty goal” (50% of theoretical efficiency) FPE is 82.7fpe. I’ll spare you the calculation but feel free to check it.

So, the GK1 handily exceeds Bob’s lofty goal, of 50% and actually makes 53% of maximum theoretical power.

Then, if we use JDGriz’s data for shots taken at a lower reg pressure, where there’s likely a little less air wasted, we find that the GK1 is making 56% of theoretical power!

Based on this analysis, it seems that the GK1, even with a high friction slug, is pushing past what can be achieved using a conventional PCP with a hammer.

While I appreciate the fact that its revolver action (shooting from a mag) is not optimal for accuracy, I’d love to see this valve used with a (perhaps retractable) bolt and probe to produce what could be a very accurate and powerful PCP in a small form factor. In any case, the valve is clearly groundbreaking!

N/A  Future of HP PCP guns?

Now I’m definitely stepping out of my pay grade here. In my humble opinion, the next major improvement with all pcp will be in the air delivery area or valving system. Now in my simple mind, there’s the venerable “hammer slap” system. IDK it’s proper name. Newer guns have shown a “balanced valve” system- RTI and EPIC, and the Huben- which has a “plunger “ type system if I understand correctly. I sure don’t know the nuances, but I’ll bet there are plenty who can chime in. Does anyone think any of these newer designs will render the “hammer slap “ design obsolete? If so, are the newer designs a passing trend to something different?

Reality vs YouTube gun performance for the new guys

The following is from personal experience I’m not a tuner I’ve just owned too many Airguns . I have a really good friend that recently bought his first regulated gun. The gun is really accurate however he’s not been very happy with it. The gun is pellet on pellet on paper but the numbers were bothering him. Curiosity got me to ask some questions. Come to find out that his gun only has a 25 foot spread which to me is excellent but I’ve owned many regulated guns and know what to expect. Honestly I’m ok with a 40 foot spread because the distances I shoot 40 spread makes no difference. My buddy has been watching YouTube and comparing doctored extreme spreads of 5 feet. I’m not saying it’s impossible but most guns unless you spend a week on and have the capability of multiple dials and knobs will never give you 5 foot spread. They won’t tell you that they sorted and weighed pellets or any of the details. All the YouTube world is trying to do is sell a gun. Also variables in the chronograph makes a huge difference as well. My fx chronograph isn’t very consistent but it’s good enough. Nate Chronographs on the other hand have proven very consistent. Other things such as humidity, pellet consistency, temperature, air pressure all play a big role. The point is don’t sweat the #s. Shoot at paper and see the results. You’ll know when your regulator is bad believe me it’s obvious.

AEA  AEA HP Max left cocked?

Hello everyone, thanks for having me. This is my first post regarding my first PCP. I’ve owned a few handguns back in my twenties which was thirty plus years ago but this is my first real airgun.

I think I got a pretty good deal on a used AEA HP Max .495 which came with a 10.5” Donny FL Emperor moderator, a 6.25” extension, and a cheap VEVOR pump that’s actually not half bad for $500. I’ve only put one round through it so far as I’m still figuring everything out and I’m just a little weary since it is used. The person I purchased from didn’t seem to know much about it, except that it put lots of holes in a dead dryer in his basement lol

Can it be left cocked?

Also, any thoughts or suggestions on inspecting cleaning, what to look out for on a used PCP with about 100 rounds through it would be greatly appreciated. I purchased a patch worm pocket field kit for cleaning and have been watching lots of YouTube videos etc. Thanks for any help or tips. I appreciate it!

Huben  GKI 25 caliber on order

Backed out of my 177 shorty order , And added just a 25 caliber GKI with trigger job and improved loading gate,, I love shooting 177 pellets but with my eyes and old fingers I best go with the 25 to go beside my 22 caliber GKI. First time shooting with a red dot on my 22 and the GKI has impressed me with a grackle kill at 40 yards, I expect pellet on pellet and fly shooting at 50 yards with my rifles but my pistols I just kinda plink with them, You know cans , Pill bottles and some paper. I am a pellet shooter. I shoot pellets with my pellet guns .
I found the GTO 22 caliber shoots best out of my 22 GKI, plinking at about 500 FPS, I love the shot count , Lots of shots. I don't really mind the extra cost of the GTO pellets its like fun factor = cost , It's still a big plus .
So what Pellet are you guys shooting in your 25 caliber GKI ??? I am not a slug shooter so lets keep it pellets please,, I know, I know in this crazy air gun sport never say never, Ten years from now if I am not dirt , I may be the slug king of shooters , LOL....

Air Arms  How much lube?

This is a question that has no simple answer, but I thought I would relay my experience with my TX200HC in case it might be of help. The story starts last year with a tweak to the rifle's spring and a relube. After thoroughly wiping the bore, I lubed the OD of seal, piston and spring with a bare minimum of Vortek orange grease. Just a film really, with no buildup. This seemed to work for a while, but then I started seeing vertical spreads to my groups.

So I tore the rifle down again, and this time applied a thin layer of the same Vortek grease to piston and spring, perhaps 1/64"-1/32". I hoped this might be enough to get transfer to the cylinder wall and provide more reliable lubrication. So far results are good, tight groups and no detectable smoking or other signs of seal bypass. Here is today's target showing good consistency except for that last group that I will chalk up to an error in NPA, which springers seem especially sensitive to.

N/A  BSF S60

Just won this rifle on eBay. It was the shape of the grip that got my interest. It’s got that old English traditional look. I think it’s walnut which is a nice bonus. From what I read the walnut stock was a deluxe option. Power should be in line with an r7. Perfect for the yard.

Field target club name

I am trying to build a field target club in IOWA. I live in the Iowa city Cedar Rapids area and figure an hours and a half drive is about as far as I would want to drive every month to shoot. More like forty five minutes.
But let’s see where people live before scouting a location

I think the first thing to do is a name.

let’s have some ideas and make sure the name is not taken or mean something that will cause problems or embarrassment.

My first choose is IFTA. Iowa Field Target Association.

It is taken by some other entities but might work.

I will probably have to start a Facebook page that can function as a center point for scheduling and rain out information and dates. Field target does not rain out but Iowa can have weather without rain that keeps you home.

The name is the first thing they need.

Any suggestions?

March Pain

Just a PSA to folks thinking about getting a March scope. If you need service/repairs, you will have to ship it back to Japan on your own nickel. For my March High Master 10-60x56, it is going to be $140 with only about 1/2 the insurance needed to replace it. I understand the turn-around is 2 to 3 months. For Sightrons or Trijicon, you only need to ship to a US address, despite being built overseas, which is quick and lots cheaper.

This particular scope is having problems tracking elevation and windage adjustments. This is also manifesting itself in a significant amount of POI shift with temperature. I mounted the scope on a picatinny rail attached to a heavy table and watched the POI shift down and left all day with temperature swings, over 4.5 MOA through a hot day. This really explains a lot of the problems I have been having on the field target course (WFTF class). I had to adjust 2.5 MOA to get close to the kill zones mid-match on a recent GP The March scope ranges beautifully, but I am not sure I have confidence to use it for field target anymore.

Snowpeak  Umarex/Snowpeak magazines suck

I have an Umarex Notos and Zelos, both in .22 and both made by Snowpeak.
The airguns are great, but the magazines are crap.

The Notos magazines, do not align properly in the receiver and have to be pushed by hand into a position where the bolt can push the pellet into the barrel.

One of my Zelos magazines stopped working in a week.
The internal magazine drum stopped rotating.
The magazine is impossible to open and have more info here:

The 15 years old Marauder style magazines work well, are cheap, and can be easily disassembled and fixed.

So Snowpeak (the manufacturer) !^#@^#@%@$#@^

And Umarex (the distributor/seller) !$&%$@&%$@^%$@
