RAW Rapid  R.A.W. HM1000X Inconsistent Today - Indoors

I went to an indoor range for the first time today - wanted to shoot with no wind. Set up at 50 yards with N50 practice targets. After sighting in I was hitting 10's and X's for most of the first 17 shots. The next two shots were almost outside the box and number 20 scored a 5. From that point on it was literally hit or miss with another 5, then 9, a wide 5, then 10, 10. Why in the world would this happen? Speeds were consistently in the 865~870 fps range. I'm shooting a .25 caliber R.A.W HM1000X (Rapid Air Worx) in an MPA frame. By the way, pellets were FX 34 grain weighed and sorted and also AEA Center Punch 33.9 grain.

Two more things - I believe R.A.W. sends these out at about 910~920 fps which seems too fast for Diabolo pellets so I tuned it back to 870-ish fps. Any thoughts on that as well? Also, adjusting the hammer spring has almost no affect on pellet speed. I know it's used for minor adjustments but fully out to fully in barely makes a 1-2 fps difference - bad hammer spring?

TIA for comments.

Let’s see those light weight Carry Airguns (Woods Walkers)

I’d love to see everyone’s favorite light weight or compact carry airguns. Something you can throw in a pack or carry for miles.

I walk my dog for about an hour a day. I carry a airgun with me every time. Most times I carry this P-Rod. Sometimes my Notos. Out to 50 yards either of those should be able to crack a golf ball. Doesn’t weigh me down at all.

Here’s my P-Rod and couple Dog Walk Photos

Feel free to shows your favorites in the comments below 👇 🤘

N/A  Veteran vs Newer Compacts

Hey everyone.... I've been out of the airgun scene for the past couple years and now getting back into it. I still have my Taipan Veteran .22 Compact that's been a great little gun. I'm contemplating getting another bullpup in .177 for lower powered shooting.

Seen a couple new offerings from some other brands that have caught my attention such as the Brocock Ghost, Brocock Ranger / Atomic / Pathfinder and, RAW Micro Hunter.

Wondering if anybody has any direct experience with a Veteran vs any of these other guns I listed. Just trying to figure out if I should try and find a used Veteran .177 compact to play with or explore some of these new offerings. The accuracy and trigger on the Veteran sets the bar pretty high, at least for me anyways.

Any thoughts or insight is appreciated!

Thoughts on the Skout Release Trigger

I guess these changes have been available for a month, but i just discovered that Skout updated their software for the Epoch/Evo
the Release Trigger is now an option available in the "Fire Mode" when you go into the rifle's Firmware programming...after you download the programming
Screenshot 2024-09-17 055048.png

I have never used a trigger system like this.
I have read a little about it and not certain of the pros/cons of using this system.
Can anyone please share their experience and thoughts on using a Release Trigger System
Thanks
Mike

Umarex  3rd Zelos has Issues. Anyone else having issues??

I’m on my 3rd new Umarex Zelos from PA. Is anyone else having issues with there’s? I can’t be this unlucky? The guns shoot great but the Quality Control is unbelievable. I’m now on #3 which is probably going back. Let’s start from my first Zelos.

#1 Was leaking about 100psi a day. I checked all the basics I knew how without tearing it apart. I put a glove finger over the barre and it popped out. I believe it was something internal. Back it goes.

#2 This one had the most issues. I went to adjust trigger and a trigger linkage bar was bent/twisted. Not a huge deal but it made me shake my head.
Then I noticed pic rail on the tube was defective. It had a little chunk missing and crack. Not like a dropped and broke issues. It wasn’t molded correctly and they just threw it on anyways. I like the gun so let that slide to.
The final straw on number 2 was clipping. The gun was shooting lights out but every 5 or 10 shots it would send one to the right. I thought it was me at first. Was about to add a moderator then I noticed a line down the inside of the 1/2-20 adapter. Paint was missing so it was clipping. Painted that spot with a sharpie. Checked some basics then had a shooting session. Black sharpie mark gone, so yup clipping.
Tried a few things like flipping shroud, checking screws, etc. I’m guessing some misalignment(out of spec)is causing pellets to just miss the adapter each shot. Then every few shots or so you get a pellet off enough to clip. Definitely not risking my new moderator on it. Back #2 went.

#3 So lucky number 3 came last Friday. I opened it up and aired it up Saturday morning. Look at it Sunday and think I’m losing my mind. No way is another Zelos leaking. So I take a picture for next 3 days. It’s Tuesday now and the gauge is at around 3200. Time stamped photos show around 100 psi a day again.
Going to check the basics. Hope it’s something simple. I haven’t even shot it so maybe that’ll seal it up.Going out in the garage to mess with it now.

Sorry for the long post. I hate even writing this crap. Two of my Airgun buddies said it needs to be known.
Pyramid air has been awesome this whole time. Shout out to them. It’s not their fault and they are eating all these shipping cost.

Any others having issues? Other than some YouTube reviews. There’s very little feedback on here. I personally know guys that have zero issues with there’s.

Thanks
Rob

Added 3 pics of my leak on #3. No picture of Saturday when filled but it was at about right at the edge of the red. Sunday through Tues. about 100 psi/day.

PCP Rifle  SOLD WTS .20 Airforce Condor

Went to the gun room the other day and had the feeling of being overwhelmed, so trying to downsize a bit. This one represents some duplication so here we go.

Black .20 Airforce Condor with the tophat with swappable transfer ports ("Ring Loc") and bottle with air gauge and quick-change bottle system ("Spin Loc")
PXL_20240823_171429844.jpg

I bought it on the 4th of July special and paid $395 plus another $50ish for the Ring Lok (transfer ports) kit. I replaced the plastic power wheel with a metal one. I polished the barrel and have it shooting quite well now. The .20/15.89 pellets are its favorite but it also shoots the .20/18.9gr NSA slugs acceptably. The slugs are a loose fit in the loading area of the barrel but shoot fine (as evidenced by the pesting video I'll link at the end of the ad).

For any of the packages the gun will ship in the original box it came to me in. I have not registered the gun for warranty so I think that could be done by the new owner, if so desired. I will also include the little kit of baubles I bought on ebay with any of the packages (breech slide, hammer, etc).
  • Gun + Rink Lok Kit-I'd go for $400 shipped.
  • Gun + Ring Lok Kit + one tin of JSB .20/15.89 and one box of NSA .20/18.9grain slugs-$425 shipped.
  • If you'd like it with the moderator adaptor and the long dovetail-to-pic rail conversion-$450 shipped.
  • Gun + Ring Lok + tin of pellets + box of slugs + moderator adaptor + long dovetail to pic rail conversion- $475 shipped
  • If you'd like it with all of the above plus a 20x SWFA MIL scope that is also surplus-$675 shipped. (I have the original box for the scope and will supply that as well).
  • If you'd like the scope mounted, sighted in, and dope sheet out to 130 yards with the pellets OR slugs at the current 30fpe, -$775 shipped. (with this option I'll include the moderator that I'd use while making the dope sheet because without it the point of impact will change and make the dope useless. It's a 3d printed resin moderator. Scope and moderator in photo above are not what will be supplied in this package).
I disabled the auto-safety after it jammed in the first couple shots. I will supply the parts in case new owner wants to fiddle with getting the safety working again. I found the trigger to be improved overall without the fiddly auto-safety parts present. I treated it as cocked gun = safety off. Uncocked gun = safety on. Design allows decocking.

Gun at current 30fpe tune gets about 35-40 shots per fill, from 1800psi to 1400 psi (hand-pumpable).
Plenty capable of 100+ yard accuracy.

Nothing wrong with it, simply have too many guns.

PayPal F&F or Venmo or mail me a check and wait for it to clear. I've got a pretty extensive history here on AGN.

Here is some documentation of my couple month long journey with the gun.

Time to combine Open and Hunter?

First off, this isn't pitchforks. Nor is it demands to the BOG. Nor do I want it to become a BOG bash. Let's see if we can discuss this in a civil manner.

While nothing compared to many that have been doing it for multiple decades, I've been involved in ft since the 12x Hunter class days. Around the time the rules changed to 16x was the time I started shooting in Open class. I shot there a couple years, and about 2 years ago switched to mostly Hunter when the Open class participation got nearly non-existent at the monthly matches of the 3 clubs I attend. I prefer Open, feeling slightly more stable from the bumbag/harness position, and the unlimited scope power, and the ability to dial the turrets. But I can also hold my own from the Hunter class position and rules.

The recent Pyramyd Air Cup is what prompted this post. Somebody shared some photos of the scoreboards on Instagram. If I'm reading it right, I'm counting 58 Hunter class shooters, and 5 Open class shooters. At an 11.6:1 participation ratio, I think we're at the point of bringing the combining of the two classes up for discussion.

So how do we all feel about a combined Open/Hunter class?
The way I envision this is that the 16x scope restriction for Hunter class is lifted, allowing Hunter class to use any scope they want, at any magnification level. While the no-harness, no-straps, etc rules are lifted to allow the typical Open class position to shoot with the Hunter class. For the "new" class, essentially: keep the no attached bipod rule, and keep the no tripod rule, and keep the no laser rangefinder rule. In other words, change the rules so that current Open and Hunter class positions and equipment are all one class.

Hunter class gets what they want with the removal of the scope restriction. And the few remaining Open class shooters can still shoot from their favored position and actually have a class in which to do so.

Hunter class guys....Would you be mad about this? Quit the game/sport?
Open class guys....Would you be mad about this? Quit the game/sport?
WFTF class guys.....Would you....nevermind. This doesn't affect you in any way whatsoever.

From my perspective, combining the two classes sure wouldn't alienate any newbies, since Hunter is no longer a new-comer class but rather the largest field contested. ie Hunter is not a new-comer class, whether it was ever meant to be at inception or not, it simply isn't now.

What say ye?

Am I missing some valid reason why we should keep the current situation and not consolidate Open and Hunter? I'm only seeing this as a win-win for both classes and field target as a whole, but I'm just one person.

Cape Fear Airguns

Has anyone experienced any issues trying to get into contact with someone at Cape Fear Airguns? I can only see the contact us option on their website and haven’t seen any response to the multiple inquiries I’ve made about product availability. Just curious if anyone had another option outside of their website.

Thanks!

Benjamin  New Marauder

I have been wanting a Mrod but already have a full size rifle or two so I had no reason to buy one. Then Don in Va put this nice walnut bullpup kit up for sale.

Well that was all I needed. The stock arrived safe and sound and in beautiful condition. Thank you Don.

Next up, Marauder shopping…Airgun Revisions. If you want a bargain, that is the place to buy a referb. I ordered a 22 Mrod LW barrel for $300. I can not pass that up.

The gun arrived promptly and full of air. I took a few shots and wow, its a very nice gun as delivered. Thank you AR! I also ordered an SSG with the gun, so yes, a perfectly good gun, now take it all apart LOL. I also had to swap out the pic breech for a standard one. And while there backed the restrictor out.

I need to play with the ergo and the tune. I ran one shot over the china devise, CPHP @ 915fps. Very very quiet. I will tweak that down depending what pellet I end up with. I want to run 16 grain and under in this one. Depends what it likes, but if its like my 6 other Walthers, I will have choices.
