FWB  Original FWB 300 in the box

I have been hanging on to this new in the box FWB 300 for many years. I had a letter from the factory some years back saying this was perhaps the very last full size FWB 300 to be manufactured in 1972 before the smaller FWB 300S came out. If not the last one, it was at least manufactured during the last week of manufacture of this model. I am wondering how uncommon these are, and what it may be worth? If anyone can give me some advice, I would appreciate it. 52 years old and aging well. I take it out twice a year to oil it down, other than that it just lives in my safe. I thnk FWB made some of the nicest air rifles ever produced. If only everything was built to this standard, what a nice world it would be.

Power out

My power went out today in my area. Didn’t even notice it went out, my generator kicks in automatic ally. I go out one of my exits and there’s a hydro guy there. I go pick a load of soil and on way back the hydro guy stops me. “You hydro is on“ I didn’t know it was off. He said he had to reset the breaker.
IMG_9559.jpeg
He said this guy got fried and tripped the breaker.
IMG_9558.jpeg
I was wondering where he went. He was smoking. Dodging the lead.
They almost burnt my house down 20 yrs. ago. Mr. Hydro said they are a major problem.
Reminds me of what a politician said.

Optimum speed for .30 pellets and slugs

I just installed a .30 cal barrel on my Impact M4. It's the 600mm length and I'm just wondering what speed I should be targeting for pellets and slugs? I'm shooting the 44.75 grain JSB pellets and the 44.5 grain FX Hybrid Slugs. Right now I have the regulator set on 110 BAR, the macro wheel on 14 and the micro wheel on 4. It's shooting the pellets at an average of 823 FPS and the slugs at 800 FPS. Both are grouping very well at 37 yards. Just curious if I'm already within the target range or do I need to increase or decrease velocity to improve accuracy? Thanks.

Anyone know where i can get rubber steel washer for fx impact mk2?

So my fx impact mk2 is leaking from the bottle adapter. I took it off to inspect and the rubber steel washer, part of the rubber is coming loose from the steel ring. I think this causing the leak. So I look on fx part list and it's called the rubber steel washer m12. So I google that and found some. But there size are completely different. Idk what fx use as a measurement but if they called it the m12 washer, shouldnt it match all other m12 washer? Or fx use their own measurement. Anyone know where I can find this rubber steel washer? I know I could probably get it from utahairgun but I don't want to pay the $8-10 shipping for a stupid o ring. If anyone know where I can get it cheaper with free shipping or shipping like $3-4, could you post link pls. Thanks

PCP Rifle  SOLD FX King .25 600mm with Extra Kit (***REDUCED***)

FX King 600mm .25 with Hunter Brown GRS stock. This is a beautiful rifle in a wonderful stock, but I am not shooting it enough to do it justice. Thought I would get into longer range shooting but that hasn’t worked out as there is nowhere close for me to shoot. I am going to go back to all .177 equipment (with a.22 barrel and probe for occasional hunting) to keep wife and neighbors happy. So, all the great potential of this rifle would not get used by me.

This rifle was bought with a 500mm .22 barrel with the 110mm long plenum. I got the parts and converted it to a 600mm .25 barrel with a 220mm long plenum. I am selling it in the setup shown here - 600mm .25 cal (Superior STX liner - 1:24 TR). I will also include:

  • Two .25 FX magazines (new style with bearing and 15 shot)
  • One .22 FX magazine
  • CARM single shot loader (both .25 and .22)
  • 600mm Superior Heavy STX Liner (1:18 TR) with CF sleeve (not glued)
  • 500mm Superior STX Liner in .22 (1:24 TR) with CF sleeve (not glued
  • 110mm plenum, pellet probe, and parts needed to go back to a .22 cal.
  • Saber Tactical Picatinny Bottle Clamp.
  • Full set of O-rings in separate packages by part number.
  • Custom-fit FX Hard Case
  • **** Now including Huma Avalanche 40-4 .25 Moderator ****
I currently have the rifle shooting the JSB 25.39 pellets at 907 fps with an SD of 2.3 and an ES of 10. This is with a regulator pressure of 75 bar and QTS at @ 1.2. Shooting around 5 mags without dropping off reg. I have also shot the FX 34.9 pellets at 870 with an SD of 3.1 and ES of 9. That was at a reg pressure of 90 bar and QTS of @ 1.75. With this setup I usually get more than 4 mags shot.

New Price of $1650 !!! I am asking $1800 TYD. PayPal FF or PayPal Invoice if you pay the extra. The scope, rings, bipod, and monopod/bracket are not included.

Air Tanks  SOLD Omega 18 cu. ft. 4500 psi Portable Air Tank & Fill Hose, Exc. Cond. -- $250

Up for sale is an Omega 18 cu. ft. 4500 psi Portable Air Tank. The tank, valve, and fill hose all look pristine and work as they should. The tank itself was covered since I first got it with a Gorilla neoprene cover. The date on the tank is 01/21, so it should be hydro-tested by 01/26 - still a year and a few months away. I completely emptied the tank for shipping and will leave the valve open for safety. I'm selling it because I just bought a bigger tank.

I am selling this for $250 via PayPal F&F, plus the actual S&H via UPS. If you are interested, let me know your address and I can give you the shipping cost.

Thanks

Rattlesnake Head Shot slo mo...threat eliminated

Vulcan 3 30 caliber
52gn ThorPress Slug @ 992 fps

Rattle Snake was under 25 yards (my near zero) so aimed low 1 mil. Normally I'd not kill a snake but this guy was where people frequent (archery range) and my wife is one of those people and this guy was right by one of the targets. So, I could have very likely saved her life :) God forbid she walked downrange to grab her arrows and came up on this thing and was bitten....no sir. Threat eliminated!

FX  I hate the fx impact.

I purchased the fx impact mk2 3-4 years ago. It never leaked. But now it's creating these slow leaks you can't hear it. I've been chasing after this leak for over a month now and so tired of it. It's like when I find one leak and fix it, it starts to leak from somewhere else. I find that leak and fix it and then another leak from else where. Like wtf. It's like chasing a f ing mouse. Getting really annoying chasing these leaks. I just want it to hold air and not wake up the next day to see it went down 30-50 bars. I will show pic where I find all these stupid leaks. Smh. Still trying to fix these stupid issues, right now from what I can tell is it's leaking from the front bottle adaptor. Will try to fix that and I swear it will leak from somewhere else. Like damn

Barrel Length, the seldomly understood calculus

I am not going to claim to have full understanding of the calculus behind how projectile velocity determines effective barrel length, but this thread will briefly go over what I have learned, and how pellet weight and most importantly pellet velocity alone greatly impacts the 'effective barrel length' in a pcp (and most airguns).

Generally speaking, a well tuned airgun rifle's valve will close by the time the pellet reaches between 30-50% of the barrel length, however this applies to rifles with the common 18-24" barrel, and just happens to coincide with physics. Some may notice, a heavier pellet will produce more FPE than a lighter one. The physics here is easy to explain, as the heavier pellet moves slower, it spends more time in the barrel (pellet dwell), which allows the mass of air ejected to transfer more energy to the projectile, and likewise, if you go really light, you'll notice a huge decrease in energy, because the pellet is traveling down the bore so fast, the 'effective barrel length' is reduced, however marginal it may be, it is physics and a race of air molecule velocity versus your pellet velocity.

"Bobs lofty goal" formula from the GTA does not take this effective length into account whatsoever, hence why short barrels crush his lofty goal, because it assumes 50% barrel use, where short barrels will exceed this.

Do note, it takes a huge shift in projectile weight to drastically shift the effective barrel length, and the science behind the mass of air working on the mass of lead within the barrel is not simple. Once projectile velocity decreases below 950 fps the effect becomes more and more noticeable

The GK1 really brought to light to many, myself included, just how impactful this is, hence why a 8-9" barrel can really pack a punch, the first 9" of any airgun is commonly their peak 'effective' range for the common sub 30gr pellet, but for big bores and the like, getting up heavier and heavier in ammo (100gr+), they really begin to take advantage of much longer barrels, producing gobs of power and pushing the effective barrel distance towards much further than 9-10", meaning many heavy ammo shooters greatly benefit from 30"+ barrels (provided they desire a fairly non-violent shot cycle airguns are known for while producing gobs of power).

Below is an example of the pressure and fps/energy gradient of a very standard airgun. 22 cal, 19.5" barrel, 25 cc plenum volume, 2000 psi set point, .187" ported, shooting 18.1 gr. (also to be noted, the effective barrel length used @ 19.5"/495mm opposed to 20" @ 500mm is because we're measuring the pellets traversal distance, which is from where it sits in front of the transfer port to muzzle.)

1725037057474.png

The valves closure distance here is at 9.3" or 47.5%~ of the barrel length, why 47.5% and not 45% or 50%, well, because I said so! LOL (for demonstration and based on my tests of 19.5" barrels with nominal pellet weights)

But what happens when we compare this to a GK1 that has all identical features (and a theoretical regulated 25 cc plenum), where we only reduce its barrel length to 8.2"

1725036622193.png

Say whaaaaaat? The difference in power between the two power plants here is minimal, and its simply the calculus of air molecules chasing the pellet down the bore, where the gk1 is able to use upwards of 90-100% of its barrel length effectively, the 20" barrel uses 45%-50% to transfer energy, where the remainder is primarily reducing pressure for muzzle noise/flip. The above graphs are not 100% actual representations, rather theoretical, for demonstration only.

So what about really long barrels and heavy ammo? Well, I am not claiming to have it all figured out, and the mad men that do have it all figured out, well feel free to chime in! The below is a 36" barrel that would in theory use 35% of its barrel length, however, I have done zero tests to even begin to grasp very long barrel lengths, as I am simply fudging numbers based on theoretical peak projectile velocity and estimated pellet dwell extrapolated from that, so take the actual figures below with a grain of salt, where the above figures are fairly reasonable.

1725037173532.png

In any case, with all pcps, the moment the valve shuts, the bore experiences a sharp drop in pressure, and the gradient of this pressure is one reason that makes our pcps so delightful to shoot, from minimal muzzle noise, to minimal muzzle flip. I hope this helps paint a picture how projectile velocity greatly effects the 'effective barrel length' in pcps, where the majority of energy transfer occurs sharply in the first 10", and as the projectile outpaces air, energy transfer greatly stagnates.

This concludes my Ted Talk for the day.

FX  $2000 to spend

I am ordering a new FX in the next few weeks. I have a Dream lite and love it so am for sure buying another FX rifle. I want more power so considering the Crown and M4 rifles. I understand all of the advantages of the adjustment capability of the M4 and overall high ratings. I like the design of both guns equally. One concern is a posting I read here on the site that the M4 has more O rings than the Crown and (at least the poster) was of the opinion the M4 was not as reliable in the long term as the Crown would be. I shoot more than the average person so trouble free longevity is important to me. I am interested it your opinions regarding this issue.
