Can slugs DAMAGE (wear down) barrels?

Can slugs DAMAGE barrels?

"Damage" as in "wear down"?

Please, if the specialists (gun smiths, guys with studies in physics, and the like) would answer this for me, I'd appreciate it.

I've heard a lot of opinions.
Now, I'm ready for the truth. 😃

👍🏼 Thank you for schooling me — I admit I am utterly unqualified to answer this question (my resume includes failed physics classes in school).

Beginner Wind Flags

I want to begin shooting benchrest and nee to purchase wind flags. What flags would you recommend for a “green as the grass “ novice? I live in Phoenix where the wind is always blowing. Do some styles lend themselves better (easier to read) to beginners than others, I.e. double vein vs single, propeller vs no propeller/pinwheel. I look forw to your comments. Thanks, Tom

Umarex  Zelos Bottle Conversion

I have seen several posts questioning why you would do this. I understand that the Snowpeak M60B is basically the same thing from the factory, I cannot speak for others but I did it because the Snowpeak was and still is unavailable. Plus I was able to use a larger bottle. I present to you the Zelos M60 B+. That is a joke but seriously here it is...

Looking for an image of a gold inlaid custom stock someone posted a while ago

Tried looking for it, I think maybe it was on a steyr? It was beautiful, hoping someone knows what I’m referring to. I never forgot about it because it was so nice, and would like to use it as a general reference when making mine.

Thanks in advance!

HW/Weihrauch  24 on the roll

A few weeks ago SpiralGroove did a post on his gun rack. I expressed I may have to convert my racks to vertical storage. Beertheif mentioned a rack with wheels. Don’t know if being serious or sarcastic, it set off a fire storm.
I had a hockey stick rack that was in my store and I converted it to hold ply wood. Eventually it made its way to the scrap pile, was going this spring. I pulled it out of a pile all bent out of shape.

The tubes filled with water froze and turned square pipe, round.

After a day of thawing I cut it down to 56 inches.
Now I not going for Better Homes and Gardens award. No paint or stain. I found some Watco, could have used for shoe polish. I’m looking for stability, compact and generous storage.

My shop is a total write off. Don’t like working under these conditions. I was able to make a jig for the holes. The dowels are 1/2 in. I actually had to go buy.

Finally finished, No beauty Queen.

Now to avoid a heart attack and drag it to the house.
‘After a wipe down I had to reassemble it. HW 30’s on top and HW80’s below

I‘m really happy with the sturdiness. I can spin the cart with no fear of rifles falling. You can see the angle of the pegs.

On the other sides 50’s on top and 90’s below

One 50 on floor waiting for delivery of a Ricord coming from the other side of the pond.
This is absolutely the answer to my problem. Equivalent to 10 ft. of wall.

HW/Weihrauch  HW Comparison

Those of you that own multiple HW rifles like the 35, 50, and 95, if you had your choice of one of those three, which would you choose? What's outstanding about the 35 that I should have one? I'm considering a 35 since I've heard so much about it. I already have a 30 and 95 and have had a 97.

RWS  Did i find a gem ? Rws 38

Read some posts about the Diana 38 and low and behold one just happened to find me at a local pawnshop. I'm not really a break barrel fan , thank you walmart specials. But I am a Diana rws fan and have had afew side lever and some knock offs.. still waiting for that 54 to fall in my lap so in the mean time thought I would try this . It does shoot and feels good , very tame. Haven't had a chance to sight it in or chronograph it. It's thumping my steel targets pretty hard my guess around 800 fps mid 700 maybe . Better trigger than I expected also . Not sure which one it is but I know it's not the t1. When it warms up a bit ill put it to paper and fps.

Skout  Digital gauges for the Skout Evo that display in PSI as well as BAR, both high and low pressure

I wanted to get some accurate digital gauges for a new Skout Evo, but I wanted them to display in PSI, since that's what Skout speaks (an American company) when referring to settings on their guns. They had also just changed the threads to 1/8 BSPP on the Evo. In addition, the 28mm gauges I had were no good as they needed to be 25mm to fit into the gauge recesses.

I finally found a Sekhmet company supplying gauges that fit the bill on every point. The new Outgun digital gauges work great. The only problem I had was I bought three of them just for consistency and appearance, but I discovered I had overlooked the tech spec on the high-pressure gauge, and it wouldn't operate at a low enough pressure range to use on the low-pressure regulator on the Skouts. However, they just released the new low-pressure version of the gauge whose operating range should work fine. I'm waiting for them to arrive now, and I expect all to be well.

I offered to send the company photos of the gauges on the Skout Evo, as it was a newer gun, and they had changed the thread pattern from the Epoch, and they said that would be great. I saw today they have the Evo on their webpage for the gauges now. Kind of cool, and nice to see the Evo being represented.

I realize the digital gauges are not a hyper-critical addition, especially if you set it and leave it, but there is no doubt they will reduce variability in returning to a known tune. Since I'll be using one gun for a couple configurations for a while, any variability eliminated is always an improvement in the overall system. And yes... the cool factor enters in too... how is a top-tier electro-mechanical platform not made cooler with digital gauges?

Anyway, if interested, give a look at Outgun. You can see them here:

Also... Airgun 101 has a good review online here:

Air Venturi  Do you find the AvengeX bottle ugly?

I am thinking another 177 will be my next purchase and it will be a carbine. Possibly with a bottle. The AvengeX tactical carbine is interesting but I am not a big tactical fan and I question how well made the Air Venturi stock will be (and is the comb height adjustable?). But I also find the bottle just plain ugly. I would MUCH prefer a fill probe to that ugly foster fitting bottle. Is it just me?

something that might be of interest to the home hobbyist?

Crows as useful Creatures

in France, they have been training crows to pick up cigarette butts and they crows get a reward when they deposit a butt in a receptacle.
Ingenious ! Clever creatures and clever humans... its a win win. Ultimately nature balances nature... we humans are the only species thats fuggs up the system of natural population control by over hunting and introduction of non native invasive species.

N/A  First Gun: FX Dynamic vs Umarex Zelos

Planning on getting my first PCP gun and my choices are fairly limited living in Canada. Mostly longer range plinking (50-70m), the very occasional small game at close range

Having a tough time deciding what to get as I have some difficult requirements.

- .22 caliber
- External regulator
- Accurate
- LARGE air cylinder, 150+ shot count at a reasonable power (18ish grain pellet at 900fps) I've heard I will likely need about 900cc's of air minimum
- Prefer compact but I can work with a longer gun if it has the shot count
- Looks are fairly unimportant, but reliability is
- Magazine fed

Currently looking at 2 guns which are available to me in Canada at a reasonable price:

1. FX Dynamic VP 600: A second bottle is easy to attach under the barrel, would be able to hold 900+cc of air. Should be enough for 150+ shots. High end gun from a reputable company. Top tier accuracy, and a giant plenum. Have heard they are very efficient and waste no air per shot. Heard a few people complain about reliability with FX?

2. Umarex Zelos/SnowPeak M60: They're basically the same gun and I can purchase either here. I would plan to attach 2 bottles to the front with an adapter for around 900cc's of air.
Pros: cheaper and more compact than the FX
Cons: Chinese manufacturing & reliability issues, questionable warranty and support. Small plenum, I hear accuracy is very very good but not up to FX's level. Little bit wide with 2 bottles side by side

I'm open to other suggestions but the big thing is, I want it to all be one contained unit which has a very high shot count as I cannot bring a compressor or pump with me. So far I'm between those 2 guns. Any insight as to things I'm missing or the reliability of either gun would be appreciated. Am I better of just paying a bit more for the premium FX gun? A buy once cry once type of thing?

O rings on Probe

Just put Orings on one of my probes, Yes it was leaking air when I tried to fill Pistol,,, Seems there would be something to spread the o'ring out and just slide it on the probe,
Is there any such tool?? Maybe a wood or steel stick just a little bigger than the probe, a cone shaped tool ..
Took me an hour just to put two small 0 rings on a probe, Got to be a easier way..
Maybe we need a space just for air gun tools ,,
