Sorting

New to this pellet sorting thing.
I was given a bunch of cheap tins of pellets and have found that some of the pellet skirts are too large.
I don't know if it is worth my time to go through them, but I hate to just throw theses tins out.
I would say, 1 out of every 5 are too large.
Exactly how do you sort these before putting them in the gun and then finding out the skirts are too large?
Do you use a die of some sort and where did you purchase this from?
Thanks!

Interesting moderator problem with Avenger

I purchased an Avenger .22 from Alhenry on the classifieds here and am very happy with it. (I want to get a wood stock for it but that's for another thread.)

The Avenger is not terribly loud but loud enough that I wanted to try a moderator on it. I ordered the DonnyFl extender adapter from Pyramyd:

I screwed in the adapter and threaded on a Buck-Rail moderator from another gun I have; just to try it out. Sound wise, it was impressive. The gun was so quiet - but, unfortunately the shots were all over the place. I thought it must be the can, so I put it back on my other gun and it still works just fine. I even bored out the moderator with a 1/4 inch drill bit. Still no good.

Out of curiosity I fired a shot with the adapter in but no moderator screwed on. It was very very loud but the poi went back to normal. It's strange to me that I get fine groups with the same moderator on another gun but on the Avenger it really messes things up. I put the factory end cap with baffles back in and am using it in stock formation for now.

I intend to buy a moderator specifically for this Avenger but am now wondering if I will have this same issue. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any ideas.

FX  Fx wildcat mk3 bottled barrel band

Hello, I have a FX Wild Cat MK3 bottle sniper. It happens to be very accurate, but when I take it hunting, it is very common for my point of impact to change, perhaps because the barrel does not have a barrel band and the barrel does not have much support. For a moment, I put a 1.5 washer between the space where the jacket ends and the change was spectacular. The groups changed at 30 meters from 1/2 inch to a single hole. Incredible how a simple washer gave tension to the barrel, transforming it into a laser. Now I want to try with a barrel band. Does anyone use a barrel band on a Wild Cat MK3? How does it work? That's my question. Regards.

PCP Rifle  WTS Sig mcx .177

From the website “The SIG MCX airgun models feature all-metal construction, 30-round magazines, and realistic weight and feel. For those looking to train with an airgun that has the same weight and feels like the real thing, SIG's MCX variants are some of the best on the market..”. Scope not included. No leaks, just outgrown it. 180.00 obo split shipping. Added an adapter so you can use small co2 canisters instead of the 88. You can still do that if you want but I found it easier and more financially sound to use the little canisters. Let me know if you have questions. Last used for mice in mid January.

Airgun Technologies  New U2

I've wanted an upgrade to my Benjamin m-rod since I moved to Michigan in 2018. I finally broke down and made the purchase as a retirement gift to myself, Uragan 2 green laminate in .22. I ordered the gun from Tony at Talon Tunes, originally asking for a 600mm with hopes of pushing upper 20g slugs to the mid 900's. Talon had the green laminate that I wanted at a good price with free shipping. Tony called me a couple days after I placed the order, saying that the mid 900's wasn't going to work and suggested the 700mm barrel, which I agreed. In the initial order I had asked to not over tax the gun too much in the tune and the longer barrel was an easy choice. The gun was shipped the next day and arrived yesterday.

I was thinking 28g .217's, the gun showed up with 26g .218's along with an extra free box of slugs. Best guess is Tony hit my velocity goals and had better accuracy with the 26g .218's., which chronograph readings and sample target suggest. I'll have to stretch the yardage out further to see if the .218 26's are the cats meow but the 30yrd group looks good so far. My scope should be here tomorrow, Veyron 3-13 x 44. For grins n giggles II threw an old Hawke scope on it today and shot offhand during a snowstorm....and smiled.

Zero complaints on my end for the switch and appreciate the phone call, willingness to swap guns, quick shipment, free slugs and attention to what shot well v my initial thoughts.

Other  Is STD deviation temperature related?

I’ve recently been doing some testing on my Maverick. Basically, at low temps, I notice higher std deviations and “extreme spread” increases than when temps are higher. Trying to let you folks comment on why this may be happening. At higher temps I can get 1-3 fps std deviation and 6-7 ext spread.
At low temps, I get 6-8fps std deviations and 15-18 fps ext spread.
Also, I noticed if I bring the cold gun inside, after seeing high ext spread and std deviations, that as the gun “warms” the std deviations and extreme spreads improve.
Sooooo, your thoughts and explanations?
Anyone else notice this?

Fill hose o-ring removal and replacement (dang mud wasps)

Occasionally a mud wasp will fill a small opening of something stored in the garage - you name it, one day they will probably fill it in with mud. Well I just found one had begun to put mud in my airtank fill hose which isn't good. I feel like I need to pull that o-ring from down inside to ensure I thoroughly clean everything but can't get it out. Any suggestions? I tried several pointy things but so far nothing has worked.

Kral Arms  Another parts gun.

I have a few bins full of Kral parts. Every now and again I find a part and it causes me to build a full gun around that single part. I picked up some Winchester Mod100 barrels years ago in .308. I had profiled one to fit a Kral action probably 2017ish. I see it from time to time while looking for other things. Today I found a carbon fiber tube with a 14mm ID. That reminded me of the barrel and it went from there... 😆

19" .308 barrel. Sleeved in CF with a press fit bushing on the end for the barrel band. A Kral Mega action. A Puncher Breaker tube with the mega fill end. A JSAR valve and cocking Lever. A mega stock and a Donnyfl to finish it off.

The valve are known to make huge power and the ports are definitely there in this rifle.

It will likely become my Coyote rig. Only gets a few shots a fill but light even with the steel tube. Should still make near 100fpe even with that short barrel. Lots of hammer weight and spring testing. Anyone not familiar with the JSAR valve it breaths fire but not real tune friendly. It wants to open all the way on every shot unless you really balance the hammer weight and springs.

It's in a wood stock now and can't decide to keep her there or put her in a synthetic.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Taipan Veteran Compact .22

Great shooting airgun, very accurate as you would expect. Shooting JSB 15.9's in the 870's fps. Comes with a magazine holder (holds 3) and 4 magazines. Only modifications are the addition of the picatinny rail, changing sides on the cocking lever and a slight hammer spring adjustment. It does have a couple of slight scratches on either side of the rail, I suppose I did that sliding it in and out of the arca adapter I use, otherwise it's in great condition. Price $1100 shipped CONUS, Pay Pal Friends and Family or buyer pays fees. Bipod and scope not included. No trades.
