N/A  Thanks KWK

I want to thank KWK for a tip he gave on another thread. He mentioned that bubble tubes worked well as homemade piston liners. I ordered the same ones he recommended and tried them today. I'm really happy with them so far. I cut up one of these bubble tubes and made a piston liner. They were easier to use than cutting up plastic drink bottles or the ptfe sheets I was rolling. My 22 HW95 had a little bit of twang left in it and now it's completely gone. I'll have to order more bubbles 🫧 for future guns. This was a great tip. Thank you KWK.

Same gun another issue. I've been struggling with POI shifts with this 22 HW95 at 50 yards. While apart today I noticed evidence of piston seal rotation. For good measure I replaced the piston seal with a fresh Vortek seal. Hopefully my POI will be more consistent. I scrubbed and polished the barrel last week and lost a bit of power and now its a bit slower yet. New seals are tight. It's at 660-670 now. I'd like to see it back to 700 after the seal breaks in and the barrel completely seasons.

Need to be active for classifieds.

Just saying hello, I’ve fallen out of the air gun game for many years, i occasionally mess with mine but not enough for me to keep them. My plan is to list them on the classifieds and see if anyone’s interested in them, although it looks like I’m required to be active for at least 10 days. So here’s to day 1. The rifles i plan on selling will be..

Where did AE Swede go??

Site been down for a while and no posting on the Facebook page for a while.

I liked some of his magazines and accessories a lot and was looking into what he's got now. Well... nothing apparently.

Anyone have a clue to where Aaron went and why the business is gone?

Skout  .30 Skout EVO SubMOA

I had heard last year about the Skout “Golden Gun” Program, where if you were high Skout top ten at one of the Majors - EBR, RMAC, or PAC - you would receive a new Skout for campaigning their brand. For mid size competitions, like the Oregon EFT GP and EBR, or the NAC, and you WON, new gun. I did not know this early May 2024.

So when I won 100Y BR in Oregon with my .30 Skout Epoch early May, Bill Gardner, who was sitting right behind me at the awards ceremony, told me I had won a new Skout of my choice. I did ask if it could be orange vice gold since my Epoch is gold, and have the .30 SubMOA barrel. He said yes, but I’d need to wait for the EVO with SubMOA to be ready.

Well, here it is, just arrived UPS yesterday. Wow, is she a beauty!! I haven’t shot it yet but I will this weekend and compare it to the gold .30 Skout Epoch that I’ve been competing with so far this year.
More to follow.

HW/Weihrauch  177 HW95 @50

Here's a page of 50 yard targets from this morning's HW95 session. All are 5 shots from 50 yards. Targets shot left to right then top to bottom. There was a few scope adjustments along the way. Pretty happy with the page as a whole. The 3rd to the right on the top row is likely my 50 yard personal best. This was my first Weihrauch and still my most accurate break barrel.

Thanks for letting me show off.

Talon Tunes WTF?!?

I buy an M4 from this guy early Sept. 13th (priority). Didn't get any notification of the rifle being shipped. Gave it a few days, still nothing, just said processing. So i message him and asked him when does it ship, He responds back I'll get it out to you tomorrow.
Next day he calls me and tells me he had a little hiccup and was was shipping the m4 but it wouldn't included the m4 magazine. Said I'm sending it with the M3 magazine and when the M4 mag arrives I'll get it out to you asap. I said what happened to the m4 mag? He said sometimes these things happen but good for you. you'll have two mags lol
I said well I'm going to contact fx to see why they're shipping m4's without magazines. He responds don't do that you'll mess me up. (Whatever that meant). Anyway i told him I'll be filing a Paypal case. Within a few minutes I get a notice from paypal of a refund. Still haven't gotten the cash back in my account yet. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Taipan  1st Custom Stock - Taipan Veteran II - TAKE TWO

On my original thread as I was deciding to get the Taipan Veteran II, I mentioned I might try to make a hardwood stock. I started on this project yesterday. I've never attempted a gun stock before, but I do make furniture and repair same for my two grown children. I also make wooden gun cradles which I've posted for sale here and there.

1. The first step was to mill up a piece of 2 1/4" thick kiln-dried walnut, 23" long by about 6" wide. I've left myself a bit of wiggle room on all the dimensions. Then I traced the outline of the Taipan on the blank.

2. The second step was to attempt the make or break cut, the air tube channel. The channel is 1.57" (40MM). I bought a 1.5" nose bit for my router. I practiced on an identically dimensioned blank of eastern red cedar. It worked!! I marked a centerline in the top of the blank from the muzzle end to where the inlet cuts will be more narrow than 1.5". I then cut that centerline about 1/2" deep on my squared up table saw. This would serve as a guide and "encourage" the router bit to behave. I cut the channel in 4 passes to go easy and sneak up on the cut. The finished channel is about 1/32" narrower than I want. I'll have to use sandpaper on a dowel to remove a bit more wood from the channel to properly seat the tube.

I'm pretty pleased. The whole project would have been nixed if I couldn't manage that router cut. Frankly, the router is a bit scary to this hobbyist  . A parallel-sided air tube is far easier to inlet than a tapered powder burner rifle barrel. You can see my planer made a small chip in the end of the top of the butt stock. Fortunately, I oversized the blank and the stock will dip down in that areas as well. The chip won't impact anything.

TV 1st Cut Barrel Channel.jpg

Next steps:
3. Sand that air tube channel wider
4. Create a template for the final shape I'm after. I want much sleeker and more skeletonization.
5. Mark and drill action/stock screws before I begin shaping to have square faces to best center the holes. This is a very important step as the remainder of the inletting works from that action screw reference point.
6. Mark all areas to be inletted for the action and use Forstner bits and chisels to complete the inletting. I'm glad all the action inletting is square and not as complicated as a powder burner.
7. Using Forstner bits hog out all the areas to be skeletonized, including the slot for the charging handle.
8. Cut to very near final shape.
9. Using various hand tools and sand paper contour and prepare the stock for oil finish.
10. Finish with rubbed and polished oil product.

If this goes well I'd like to make another out of Eastern Red Cedar and another out of Cherry. I think it would be cool to have a "trap door" in the buttstock to hold a mag or two.

What was your most memorable shot?

Every now and then a person do a shot or group of shots he will never forget. Sometimes out of pure luck and other times because of practice.

The one I will never forget was when I was a youngster. A pair of doves was siting in a tree about 50 meter from me. I used my Gecado (Diana) mod.27 I had then and held it like a pistol with one hand, shooting the one dove. The other dove flew in a circle and came back to sit in the same tree. By that time the rifle was ready and I aimed the same way with one hand. That dove also fell with the shot and I had two doves with two shots.

Anyone else out there have a trusty dog by their side for hunting?

When I decided to welcome a Labrador into my life as my trusty airgun sidekick, I had visions of a classic gundog—one who would stand sentinel, mark, and retrieve with the grace of a seasoned professional. I certainly wasn’t expecting a furry dynamo with a predilection for chasing anything that dares to move swiftly. But if you believe the old chestnut that a dog often mirrors its owner, then Alfie, my lab, is a perfect match.

Alfie has taken to the air rifle like a duck to water. Mind you, the urge to bolt after anything that moves is still there, but at seven years old, his obedience is now on point. Off-lead, without a gun in sight, he’s like a greyhound at the races, chasing anything with a pulse. But stick him by my side with the scent of gun oil wafting through the air, and suddenly he’s the model gundog. He works a few yards ahead, ears swivelling, eyes darting, on the lookout for quarry. He has a cracking nose and an enthusiasm for diving into cover to flush out the bunnies. A mere whisper will drop him like a stone, letting me take my shot—and if I so much as raise the rifle to my shoulder, he stops and sits, anticipating the action.

American Air Arms  Low powered Evol Mini tune

Anyone tune the Mini down to a lower power than the usual 28-30fpe they come at? I'm getting close to tearing into mine and tuning for the 12-14fpe range and was curious of anyone has a good reg setting for that. Doubtful anyone has but thought I'd ask. And if not I'll be letting people know lol. Mines at 2050psi at the moment and shooting at 30fpe. I'm thinking at least 1500psi would be where I should aim for. If not less.

N/A  The Venom Arms Company Story

Hi, folks! If you’re keen on a dash of history and fancy diving into the tale of the legendary Venom Arms—those wizards of tuning and customization—I’ve spun their story over on my blog. Plus, I’ve thrown in some cheeky articles about the Mach 1 and 2 rifles, along with the infamous Lazaglide tune. Come have a gander!

What Scopecams Are Available❓

What Scopecams Are Available❓

After Tactacam has sadly abandoned us (and I really invested into my Tactacams because I thought I really could trust them to continue this product!).... –
I am looking into another scopecam system!

Mind you, NOT one of those cameras that don't ever touch a scope, they simple are an action cam that mounts on a gun.
There are some joksters out there that sell these as "scopecams." They are just gun cams.

Mind you also, NOT one of those cellphone-to-scope adapters, we could call those maybe cellphone scopecams.

I mean, a real scope cam – cam as in camera. A camera that films through the scope – what I see in the scope is going to be on an mp4 file....
A system that doesn't take my beloved cellphone away from me every time I want to shoot.... Or requires a specialized mount every time I change my cellphone. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Anyhow, has anybody lately been shopping this segment of our hobby and can give me (and others) a run-down of what's available, and – I'm hoping – tell us the good & the bad of each system?

A few years ago I did a massive collection of info, instructional, and links about the Tactacam. Maybe someone else is up for the task to advise me this time.

Thank you! 😊

Matthias

Ballistic apps and potential energy via gravity

I use Strelok and like it a lot, but since getting into ELR, I’ve been trying to get as precise as possible with my POI predictions. Strelok has a few mathematical issues that introduce small errors in the ELR predictions. There is one that I’m encountering lately. And it is present in other apps (ChairGun for instance) as well. Maybe there is some countering mechanism in the math that I’m not aware of, so that’s why it isn’t accounted for. If you like math/geometry/physics, you might be interested. After I explain it, let me know what you think.

This is a real example that I encounter at two different ranges.

Range (A) has a 600yd target down in a valley. -15 degree slope. That’s 466ft down.

Range (B) has a 600yd target up a hillside. +15 degree slope. That’s 466ft high.

Strelok (and ChairGun) show the same velocities and same required correction for both targets.

But a 105gr slug separated by 942ft of elevation has a difference of about 14 foot-pounds of potential energy. Certainly it took more energy to lift that projectile to the higher elevation. Where did that extra energy come from?

That should equate to a difference of about 30fps at the target. So why are they the same?

Instead of them both showing the same 104moa of needed correction, I would expect to see something like 106moa for the upward slope and 102moa for the downward slope. Am I wrong?

Gear bags, Go bags, how do you drag yor crap around?

I'm not a range shooter, I predator hunt. Big bore.
Beyond my c/f tank. I carry anmo, shooting sticks, range finder, assorted hand calls and a electric caller with remote. Other than the shooting sticks . I pack my gear in a medium sized chest pack. What do you use to drag your stuff around? And what stuff is your must have in the field ?

  • Question
FX  about tuning fx impact for pellets and slugs at the same time?

hi everyone

since the valve is a big factor regarding the tuning process of the fx impact
can i tune the gun for slugs and pellets at the same time?
for example the hammer wheel on 10 for jsb 34 gets me 920 and 14 gets me 960 on HN 36 gr slugs
OR do you think valve opening and closing will be an issue regarding accuracy while tuning for both ?
